Chapter 48: Chapter 48 - Spotlight
The Karasuno players were about to head to the stands when two men with "Sendai Open" caps approached them, one holding a large camera and the other holding a microphone stamped with "Sendai Sports".
"Hey, you're the Karasuno players, right?", asked the man with the microphone.
"Oh, yes...", Daichi responded, rubbing the back of his neck.
"We want to do a quick interview with you, can you answer some of our questions?", the interviewer asked.
"SURE!", he answered enthusiastically, while all the Karasuno players also seemed to be in high spirits.
"Our team is going to be interviewed!", Tanaka whispered.
"Yes! They're finally understanding who the stars of the show are", Nishinoya whispered.
"Well, we're here with the Karasuno players who just defeated the Iron Wall team, Date Tech", said the interviewer while signaling the camera guy to come closer.
"How do you feel about defeating such a strong team without seeming to struggle too much?"
"Well... we've trained a lot in the past few months, and with the addition of new players and our new coach, I think our team's level has grown significantly!", Daichi responded.
"And what about the rest of the championship? Do you think you'll be able to defeat the Aoba Johsai team and the incredible player Oikawa and make it to the finals?", the interviewer asked.
"They're a good team, but I'm sure that if we play with everything we've got, we can beat them and the others and make it to the finals!", Daichi concluded.
"Thank you very much! These are the Karasuno players, the underdogs who are impressing everyone.", said the interviewer while turning to speak to the camera and then walking away.
"Phew... I was very nervous! But at least I managed to speak everything correctly without getting tongue-tied!", said Daichi, sighing.
"Well, they could have interviewed someone else from us. Why did only you speak, Daichi-san?", Tanaka complained.
"We were an irrelevant team until this moment. I think just appearing on television is already something incredible!", Daichi responded.
"Exactly, just having our entire team mentioned would be a reason to celebrate!", said Sugawara.
"Well, let's go to the stands. The Seijoh game is happening. We'll watch and try to gather some live information", said Daichi, leading the way.
"Hey! I'm going to the bathroom and will catch up with you later!", said Hinata.
"Okay! But try not to take too long, or we'll leave without you!", Daichi warned.
"Okay... Okay", Hinata said, shrugging as he headed towards the corridors.
"Oh, isn't that Hinata-kun who we saw play today?", said a long-haired black-haired girl talking to two other girls.
"Seems to be...", said a blonde-haired girl while analyzing Hinata.
"Why don't you go talk to him?", said a third girl with shorter black hair.
"No, no... I won't do that...", said the long-haired girl shyly.
After feeling slightly happy with the corridor girls' interest, Hinata headed towards the men's bathroom, arriving there and observing the two guys who had previously interviewed the Karasuno team leaving.
"Good afternoon", Hinata said as he passed by them and entered the bathroom.
"Good afternoon", they responded in unison.
"Hey! Isn't that Hinata Shoyo who's been talked about in this tournament?", asked the man holding the camera.
"Now that you mention it, it is him! Let's wait for him to come out to get an exclusive interview with a future star of Japan!", said the interviewer, seeming very excited.
After about two minutes, Hinata could be seen leaving the bathroom.
"Hey, you're Hinata Shoyo, the Ace of Karasuno, right?", asked the interviewer.
"Yes, I am", Hinata responded calmly.
"Would you be interested in a quick exclusive interview with us?", he asked.
"Hmm... I think there's time", said Hinata, seeming thoughtful.
"Great! Then come over...", said the interviewer, asking the cameraman to come closer.
"Everyone! We're here for an interview with Hinata Shoyo, the Ace of Karasuno!", said the interviewer.
"Hello!", Hinata responded, waving.
"Well, Hinata, what are your expectations for this championship, and how far do you think you can go?", asked the interviewer.
"Hmm... I don't think it's wrong to say we have good chances of being champions. I feel we're at an excellent level!", Hinata responded.
"Is there any particular opponent you'd like to face?"
"Of course, Wakatoshi Ushijima. I want to defeat him!", Hinata responded.
"Do you think you can defeat him in an Ace duel?", asked the interviewer, seeming anxious for the response.
"Well, if I want to be the best Ace in all of Japan... I can't stop at Wakatoshi Ushijima... actually, I'm aiming for something bigger... I'm aiming for the whole world!", Hinata responded, smiling.
"Oh... thank you for your time!", said the interviewer, seeming shocked by Hinata's bold response.
After ending the interview, Hinata walked towards the gymnasium and climbed to the location where the rest of the Karasuno members were watching the Aoba Johsai game.
"Why did you take so long?", Kageyama asked, observing Hinata sitting beside him.
"Oh, a guy stopped me and started asking me some questions, nothing major!", Hinata responded.
"Okay then", Kageyama responded, not seeming very interested.
"How's the game?", Hinata now asked the entire team.
"Seijoh is just demolishing those guys!", Nishinoya responded.
"They're suffering a lot with Oikawa's serve", Daichi observed, right before hearing the final whistle.
"Well, we expected them to win... let's go!" Daichi announced.
"Yes! Let's go to the bus!", said Ukai.
The Karasuno return trip was calm, with most players managing to sleep the entire way back due to exhaustion.
"Hey! Don't forget we have a meeting!", said Takeda as the members exited the bus.
"Got it!", said the Karasuno players, seeming sleepy.
"Takeda-sensei, your volleyball club is apparently going to be on TV", said an elderly man.
"I wonder if Daichi-san's interview will be shown?!", said Tanaka.
"Let's go see!", said Nishinoya, running towards the television.
"Will Oikawa manage to advance, or will the new underdog team stop him..."
"IT'S ON!", yelled Tanaka.
"How do you feel about defeating such a strong team without seeming to struggle too much?"
"Well... we've trained a lot in the past few months, with the addition of new players..."
"LOOK, IT'S YOU, DAICHI-SAN!", Nishinoya yelled.
"This is actually cool!", said Daichi while watching himself speak until the moment when he finished answering the first question and the television cut to Hinata's interview.
"Do you think you can defeat him in an Ace duel?"
"Well, if I want to be the best Ace in all of Japan... I can't stop at Wakatoshi Ushijima... actually, I'm aiming for something bigger... I'm aiming for the whole world!"
"WHAT IS HINATA DOING THERE?", said Nishinoya, surprised.
"YOU WERE INTERVIEWED AND DIDN'T TELL US?", said Tanaka, irritated.
"So that's what you meant earlier...", said Kageyama, thoughtfully.
"When was this?", asked Daichi.
"When I went to the bathroom, they stopped me...", Hinata responded, shrugging.
"What boldness to say he would defeat the Shiratorizawa Ace and want to be the best in the country...", Asahi observed.
"Boldness or foolishness?", Tsukishima provoked, smiling mischievously.
"I hope you make sure it's not just talk and that you really have the necessary skill!", Kageyama warned.
"Leave it to me!", Hinata said confidently.
