Guide to raise my cutie husbands

Chapter 1657: Buying hairpin

On the other side, Sister Qiao was spending her time drinking in a tavern. She sipped on the strong liquor while watching a mer perform on the stage.

"Sister Qiao, are you really sure that Elder Sister Xiao will agree?" Dou Di asked as she leaned forward and peered up at Sister Qiao.

Sister Qiao turned and looked at Dou Di, she snorted and said, "Of course she will agree. Do you think that a lazy woman like her will skip such a good opportunity? As long as I continue telling her that it is for her own good, she will dare not refuse."

Elder Sister Xiao was someone who wanted to live in comfort but she did not work hard for it. It was quite easy for Sister Qiao to make her do her bidding.

Of course, she had no desire to help Elder Sister Xiao get her hands on the recipe nor was she going to open a shop. The sauce recipe was just a lure that she handed to Elder Sister Xiao.

What she was interested in was Madam Kong's inn itself. A few months ago she had opened an inn right next to Madam Kong after seeing how good the business of that woman was but even after spending a good chunk of her fortune, she didn't get anything in return.

The business of her inn remained the same while Madam Kong's business boomed and became better with each passing month. Every traveller who came to this city would go looking for Madam Kong's inn.

Sister Qiao wanted to shut Madam Kong's business down using her old tactics but who would have expected that Madam Kong's mother would have so many connections with the officers in Yamen as well as the magistrate's office?

With Madam Kong's mother's connections, if she wanted she could deal with her at any moment.

Sister Qiao could not make trouble for Madam Kong but she could not also watch her inn going down.

This was why she hunted down Elder Sister Xiao. As long as Madam Kong's daughters were in her hand, that woman would certainly be obedient in front of her demands.

Sister Qiao sneered and said, "Just wait, I will teach that woman a good lesson."

The next morning, Yu Dong woke up and found that her brother was missing from the room again. A bit worried, she stepped out of the room but calmed down when she saw Yu Mai playing with the two Kong sisters and his cousins.

She thought that this stinky mer left the inn once again.

But at the same time, she decided to teach Yu Mai about relaying where he was going before leaving her side. In the village, everyone was friendly with one another and she wasn't worried about them taking Yu Mai anywhere.

Even if someone dared to take him away, the villagers would stop him but the same could not be said when they were outside. No one would care about Yu Mai even if they saw him being dragged away.

She climbed down the stairs and looked at Yu Mai before saying, "Mai, have you packed your bags? We need to leave soon."

"I have," Yu Mai answered as he looked up from the toy with which he was playing. "When are we leaving sister?"

"Just after the breakfast," replied Yu Dong said to Yu Mai. She then turned and looked at the two Kong sisters and her cousins. She asked them, "What are you all up to?"

"Sister Pili said that she is going to take us to buy hairpins," replied Li Cui. His eyes were shining brightly while looking at Yu Dong. "Can—Can we?" He added softly as he was worried that his cousin would get angry at him.

"Hairpin?" Yu Dong blinked her eyes and mused.

The little mers thought that she was angry but Yu Mai turned and looked at Yu Dong before saying, "I want two."

No sooner did he finish speaking, than the little mers turned stiff. They couldn't believe their little cousin was being so bold.

He actually asked Yu Dong to give him two hairpins was he not worried that she would get angry at him?

"Brother Mai," Li Chu couldn't help but say, "There is no need to buy two hairpins right? One is enough."

He peeked at Yu Dong and added softly, "There is no need for you to trouble your sister."

He was worried that Yu Dong would get angry at Yu Mai like his mother who would lose her temper at them even if they were to ask for the smallest thing from her. There was one time when his half-sister caused a big tear in his robes.

Even though his sister was in the wrong his mother scolded him and even beat him up for ruining his clothes. Forget about buying a new one, she even refused to let his daddy buy a needle and thread for him to sew a patch in the robe.

Li Chu had a really hard time back then.

He was worried something like that would happen to Yu Mai.

"Alright but make sure that you stay with Uncle Le and Uncle Jiao Yu," said Yu Dong. Yu Dong neither hit nor scolded Yu Mai which surprised the six mers. What was going on?

Were they not money-losing goods like how their grandpa called them? So why was Yu Dong willing to waste money on Yu Mai? Shouldn't she be furious with him given that he wanted another hairpin when he already had one?

"Okay," Yu Mai smiled and agreed as he turned to look at his cousins who were looking at him with similar awed expressions on their faces. He blinked his eyes and asked, "Whats the matter? Why are you looking at Mai like that?"

"Mai," Li Cui waited until Yu Dong walked away. He then turned to look at Yu Mai before asking, "Is your sister not angry?"

"Why will she be angry?"

"You asked her to buy hairpins for you."

"And?" Yu Mai asked with a tilt of his head to one side.
