Greatest Pokémon Trainer

Chapter 18: Chapter 18 Dangerous Premonition_1

Since it was the first day of training, and perhaps Eevee needed a process of adaptation, Fang Yuan did not push too hard and ended up focusing the training solely on physical strength.

One hour in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening—altogether, Eevee and Fang Yuan ran 100 back and forths throughout the day.

Fang Yuan himself was nearly at his breaking point and barely managed to hold on; his legs were incredibly sore, but in order to set an example for Eevee, he absolutely could not be the first to fall. So Fang Yuan gritted his teeth and accompanied Eevee through the day.

After returning home…

Eevee was exhausted.

Since there were no injuries, and there were rest periods during the intense training, it wasn't necessary to take it to the Spirit Center for recovery.

Fang Yuan fed it the Orange Fruit he had bought in advance to recover its physical strength, and then Eevee drank a lot of milk, replenishing enough nutrients. After their final hot shower, Eevee quickly curled up with a silk scarf and fell asleep.

After training for the entire day, Eevee slept soundly. Fang Yuan, though incredibly drowsy and tired, still had to summarize the results of today's intense training and plan tomorrow's training.

"Continuing at this rate is too slow…"

Looking at the messy notes in his notebook, Fang Yuan felt a headache coming on.

The 100 back and forths had finally brought Eevee's round trip time to under two minutes, but that still wasn't enough.

It was still too slow.

"Tomorrow, we need to increase the intensity."

Having said that, Fang Yuan put down his notebook and collapsed onto the bed, falling asleep as well.

The next day, as the sun rose, the alarm clock's ringing woke up Fang Yuan and Eevee, both of whom had been sleeping soundly.

Upon waking, Fang Yuan could still feel aches all over his body. He glanced at Eevee, who didn't seem to have any issues and was as lively as ever—it seemed the Orange Fruit had been effective.

Orange Fruit is a type of Tree Fruit from a secret location. Many plants with magical properties grow there, with Tree Fruit being a typical example, and the function of Orange Fruit is to restore Pokemon's physical strength. Although the recovery amount is moderate, it was sufficient for the low-consumption training Eevee went through.

However, despite being the most widely cultivated Tree Fruit, Orange Fruit is not cheap due to its high consumption, making it more expensive than most ordinary fruit. For Fang Yuan and Eevee, this kind of training was already burning through cash.

And when it came time to use the Spirit Center later on, expenses would rise even further…

It's fair to say they had bet most of what they owned on the Little Phoenix King Cup.

This was also the reason for Fang Yuan's anxiety.

A new day, and following the training schedule, Fang Yuan was about to take Eevee to their usual training spot, when suddenly, Eevee started dozing off.

Its reluctance was very clear. The previous day had exhausted it, and now it didn't want to repeat the same monotonous training.

"Listen, Eevee!"

Fang Yuan looked at Eevee, who had curled itself into the silk scarf, and pretended to be angry, "This wasn't what you promised me at the start."

"You also said you wanted to participate in the Little Phoenix King Cup."

"Bwoo…"

As soon as Fang Yuan finished speaking, Eevee slowly stuck its head out, giving off an "I'm also desperate" expression.

Its enthusiasm to last even one day was already quite remarkable Bwoo!

However, thinking of the promise with Fang Yuan, and the cool peers from the movies, Eevee's expression changed for a moment, as if it had made a significant decision, and then, very unwillingly, it jumped onto Fang Yuan's shoulder.

"That's more like it… Today we need to work hard, too! Together!"

This day, Fang Yuan and Eevee began their second round of intense training. Because Fang Yuan hadn't emphasized it yesterday, Eevee was still slowing down subconsciously to dodge obstacles. After watching for a while, Fang Yuan sighed.

Well, it seems I need to employ my trump card.

"Eevee, come here."

"Listen, to stop you from subconsciously slowing down, we're going to change the way you start today."

"Bwoo?" Eevee was puzzled.

Fang Yuan drew a white line, "From here, you'll accelerate using the Tackle move, getting a boost from the explosive power of Tackle. Then, you must maintain that speed without slowing down until you hit an obstacle. Of course, if you can dodge it, that would be even better."

"Bwoo!!!!" Eevee's hopes were dashed as Fang Yuan made himself very clear.

"Come on, look." With that, Fang Yuan took out a white spray bottle from his backpack.

"I have already prepared the medicine for your injuries."

Eevee: (* ̄︿ ̄), he felt even less reassured.

The special training had to continue. Eevee cautiously got ready, starting to use the Tackle move as Fang Yuan had instructed. Eevee dashed out into the dense forest and hardly a few seconds had passed with the acceleration when he hit a tree with a "bang." The weird trees in this forest were extremely hard, and with Eevee's small body, even using the Tackle move, all he could leave on the tree was a shallow white mark. Knocking it down was impossible, and right now, his Tackle didn't have much destructive power.

At that moment, Eevee resembled a meat patty stuck to the tree trunk, and as he slowly slid down to the ground, he nearly burst into tears, looking back with tearful eyes.

Fang Yuan slapped his forehead, although he had prepared to train Eevee's physical strength, he still rushed over with the medicine as soon as he saw that an accident had occurred.

Now he was somewhat uneasy about letting Eevee fight. If it hurts to hit a tree, what if it's hit by a Flamethrower attack or a Thunderbolt? It could very well cost Little Eevee his life.

No wonder they say Eevee isn't suitable for battles, the experts did not deceive me.

Now, the problem Fang Yuan encountered was that although he had used media to make Eevee less opposed to special training, it was still very hard to help him overcome his natural fear of pain and fatigue. If the choice for a beginner was to partner with a stubborn, irritable, belligerent, and wild Pokémon, it would have been better, but a New Trainer picking a gentle-natured Eevee like Fang Yuan undoubtedly meant starting at hell difficulty.

"There's no helping it." Fang Yuan had actually done a lot of research and also asked his seniors. The current intensity of the training he and Eevee were doing was not very high. Pokémon, as creatures, are more adaptable than humans imagine; it's just that Eevee's mindset hasn't shifted yet, and it will require a strong resolve.

And it wasn't just a matter of mindset...

Fang Yuan's situation was harder than 99.9% of New Trainers, and there was a reason for this.

Some time ago, he vaguely discovered Eevee's ability... it was Dangerous Premonition.

Ability is a special power that every Pokémon has. For example, the Overgrow ability increases the power of a Pokémon's grass-type moves when its health drops. Then there's the Guts ability, which increases a Pokémon's attack power when it's under conditions like being burned or poisoned.

Most abilities are beneficial to Pokémon's performance in battle, but there are also abilities like Lazy and Slow Start that are not good for battles. Skillfully using a Pokémon's ability can lead to unexpected outcomes in a fight, but right now Eevee's Dangerous Premonition seemed like a double-edged sword.

The full potential of Pokémon abilities had not yet been completely unlocked, at least Dangerous Premonition was an unannounced ability of Eevee.

This Dangerous Premonition is highly tactical in battle, as it can sense dangerous moves owned by the opponent in advance, using the body's subconscious to turn danger into safety.

However, that requires the Pokémon to have mastered the ability.

Little Eevee, for instance, hadn't mastered Dangerous Premonition. If anything, it was more of a burden, consistently affecting him.

Whenever he encountered danger... for example, just before hitting a tree, Eevee would strongly recoil, clearly affected by the unmastered Dangerous Premonition ability.

An ability can also be seen as part of a Pokémon's nature, and it's not strange for personality to be influenced by ability, Fang Yuan thought.

So, if Fang Yuan wanted Eevee to overcome some of his mental blocks, he was also indirectly working on overcoming the negative impact of his ability on his nature.

The Stump Training Method was a case of killing several birds with one stone. Besides basic qualities and moves, Fang Yuan planned to use this method to help Eevee train his ability.

But that would come later, after Eevee had adapted to the current special training. The general idea would be to blindfold him and repeat the current training.

What he would rely on would no longer be his eyes, but the instincts brought by Dangerous Premonition, which would greatly strengthen his ability.

"Eevee..." As he sprayed the medicine on Eevee, Fang Yuan looked at the almost instantly disappearing abrasion and said helplessly, "We have a long way to go..."
