Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 776: Unseen Bonds

The sun had set, casting the sky in a shade of black and red.

Selene and Luna had risen above the horizon, casting their ethereal gaze on the City of Sails.

This time, when Adam cast his gaze toward the twin celestial bodies, his eyes flashed with complex emotions.

Standing at one of the piers on the dockside, he silently gazed at the twin moons as he sipped wine from the gourd occasionally.

He now knew that the twin moons held the key to venturing into the Greater Universe.

Will I have to one day travel to the moon?

Such a thought couldn't help but surface in his mind, causing him to let out a light chuckle.

He shook his head ever so slightly before turning around and heading back to the heart of the city.

Although he had just absorbed a relatively large soul in the mysterious space of the white lotus, surprisingly enough, he didn't feel much pain mentally.

It would appear that the lotus strengthens my soul passively every time I break through a Magus rank, the youth speculated.

Additionally, I can also consume the smaller orbs of light in the mysterious space. The rate at which my soul can become stronger is astounding.

However, even he knew that his soul body could only grow as strong as his physical body would allow it.

But since he had only just advanced to the Mana Vortex Rank, there were still a lot more white orbs he could devour until he felt… full.

There was still another way he could strengthen his physical body, allowing him to absorb more souls.

The Astral Tyrant Manual!

This profound technique was something that one of the experts—whose soul Adam had devoured—had uncovered in an ancient ruin of a magical civilization of yore.

With every advancement Adam made, he would revolve this technique to also increase the strength of his body.

Moreover, all this while he had been following the physique-strengthening system used in the Greater Universe.

He still had to bring the strength of his physical body up to the arcane stage of Mana Vortex Rank.

Thinking of this, he couldn't help but speculate, This is such a fascinating system…

Considering the dual nature of all things in existence, mana is truly such a mystical concept.

A sentient being already consists of dual parts - the physical body and the soul body.

Yet, with the involvement of mana, the duality does not transform into a trinity, but it enhances the two aspects already present.

It acts as a bridge between the physical and the spiritual.

The raven-haired youth, lost in his own thoughts, arrived in the Bazaar District.

It was the center of Hannes City and the most happening place. Here, one could find all the items shipped from the neighboring continent of Nahua.

Seeing humans from all sorts of backgrounds mingle amongst one another on the long street that etched from the western part to the eastern part of the city, Adam was suddenly reminded of home.

He turned east, his eyes flashing with deep emotions.

After I finish my work here, I'll come to visit you two for sure. Wait for me just a little longer…

He took a deep breath and cleared the emotions swirling in his heart. He had work to do. He couldn't sit idly by and relax when there was so much at stake.

As he was thinking about how to proceed with the things secretly unfolding within the city, he suddenly came across a familiar establishment.

It was a place he had visited with Edward and Lisa decades ago.

"Black Pearl," Adam muttered under his breath, his lips involuntarily forming a smile.

He headed inside without hesitation. The Black Pearl Tavern was one of the biggest taverns located in the Bazaar District. It was frequented by locals, foreigners, and even wealthy merchants.

The reason why so many people of high station—according to mortal standards, that is—chose to come to this place was solely because of one reason.

Black Pearl produced one of the best wines in the Southern Federation.

As soon as Adam walked inside the bar, he drew the gazes of everyone inside. The atmosphere gradually turned silent as everyone gawked at him.

The current Adam stood out a lot, after all. His appearance was striking, to say the least. Not only was his height more than two meters tall, but his physique was also lean yet muscular, giving people the feeling that they were in the presence of a huntsman!

Adam ignored everyone and walked towards the empty table in the corner of the main floor. On his way, he gazed at the bartender and instructed, "Send a few bottles of Caldera over."

"Y-Yes, my lord!" The bald bartender blurted out.

"Tsk," Adam clicked his tongue in annoyance.

As soon as he had entered the tavern, all eyes were on him. Some looked at him curiously, some gazed in apprehension, while others blatantly displayed greed as they saw his fine garments.

He turned to the crowd, raised his hands wide, and grinned. "Everyone's next round of drinks is on me!"

A moment of silence ensued before the tavern burst into applause and cheers.

"Haha! Thank you, young man!"

"This is the spirit of the Black Pearl!"

"Cheers to the young man over there!"

"Let us drink till we pass out!"

With a few simple words, Adam had managed to change the atmosphere inside the tavern. He turned back around and walked towards the empty table, scoffing inwardly as he thought.

Who the hell is going to pay for your drinks? Clearly, not me!

The youth took his seat and conjured a set of parchments, and a feather quill. Then, he began writing down the things he had absorbed from the memories of the Devil of Secrets.

Firstly, he now had a deep understanding of the language of the Nine Hells of Inferno.

It was called the black tongue of rulers and betrayers, a tongue of torment, a forbidden speech whispered only in the deepest pits of hell, and a cursed language said to burn the throats of mortals.

A harsh and guttural tongue born from shadows and flames - Infernac!

Moreover, Adam had also absorbed fragmented memories of advanced rune magic. Combined with the knowledge about runes that he already possessed, he had exponentially increased his understanding of this arcane art.

Finally, the most valuable thing that the youth learned from the devil's memories was his magic.

It was a magic born from secrets, a forbidden art of bending others through unseen bonds.

Soul Puppetry!

Adam's eyes flashed with a mysterious light and he repeated the words that the Devil of Secrets had once said.

"Why break the body, when you can whisper to the soul?"
