Gourmet Hunter (HxH Fanfic)

Chapter 93: Chapter 93 Transformation

Time passed slowly. After Law started taking action, people who entered the mansion fell in a pool of blood one after another.

Law's advantages lay in his ability to see in the dark and his familiarity with the mansion's layout. In addition, Kenda uses the surveillance to provide him with intelligence.

With these advantages, Law is like a terrifying hunter lurking in the dark. Concealment, flanking, ambushing, he used these methods with chilling precision.

With the help of a little bit of Aura and just a dagger, he managed to drag the enemies entering the mansion into a silent slaughter one by one.

The majority of his ambushes took place on the ground floor, as the monitoring room was located in the center of the first floor, so those enemies who went to the upper floors to search were spared, at least temporarily.

'The sixty-fifth.'

Law walked forward in the corridor holding the dagger, and six headless corpses fell behind him.

"Law, the enemy has begun destroying the cameras." Kenda informed Law at just the right moment.

There were twenty-seven images displayed in the monitoring room, arranged in a grid. But right now, the images in the outer circle had turned into static, which meant that the enemy had begun to shrink the search area and was approaching the center of the mansion.

The camera will flash a faint red light in the dark, which made them easy targets, and the enemies shot them out on sight.

"Got it."

Law responded in a low voice. He flicked his arm holding the dagger to the right, shaking off the blood on the blade, and headed towards the next target.

Of the more than 300 people who entered the mansion, more than 60 had already been eliminated. This was partly due to the mansion's upper floors dispersing the invaders initially, preventing them from swarming the ground floor.

However, it wouldn't be long before those searching upstairs descended. Once they regrouped, their numbers would overwhelm Law, increasing the pressure on him and enhancing their search efficiency.

In the courtyard.

"This bunch of trash."

The man who used the megaphone to persuade Kenda's men to surrender before cursed in a low voice after hearing the report from his subordinates.

'Dozens of people died, but we didn't even see the shadow of the enemy. What the hell is going on?'

This man, the most powerful among the nine Mafia's leaders, was visibly displeased. The other Mafia's leaders shared his frustration.

Despite their overwhelming numerical advantage, they had no good news to report. Instead, they kept finding the bodies of their own people. It felt as though they were battling a ghost.

If it weren't for their fear of destroying Barney's valuable possessions inside the mansion, they would have burned the mansion down already. There would have been no need to be so careful.

However, this gave Law the opportunity.

As the Mafia's members in the mansion began to shrink their search area, they were getting closer and closer to the monitoring room. The area where Law could move gradually became smaller, making it increasingly difficult for him to maneuver freely.

If not for his worry for Kenda and the others, Law might have been able to pick off every last one of them silently given enough time.

'Just a little longer. Once my Nen is unsealed, there will be no need for such trouble.'

Law thought silently as he quietly moved up behind a team of five people. He found the right moment to launch a sudden attack, and easily killed the five people.

At the same time, Law suddenly sensed the danger, and Aura burst out from under his feet, propelling him to the left.

Just as he jumped to the left, gunfire erupted, lighting up the hallway with flashes as a hail of bullets tore through Law's previous location. The bodies of the five he had killed were riddled with bullets, reduced to bloody husks before they even hit the floor.

'So ruthless.'

Law narrowly avoided the barrage of bullets. He retreated into the shadows and looked indifferently at the five bodies torn by bullets. Without hesitation, he withdrew further into the darkness and left the place.

The enemy's strategy was clear: destroy the outer cameras to prevent Law from having a comprehensive view, then use their unaware comrades as bait to lure him out.

Judging by the timing of the gunfire, it was obvious the shooters hadn't considered the lives of those five. From the start, their plan was to kill Law along with their own team.

'So, they've started to counterattack… Good. That makes things easier.'

Law moved silently through the dark. As long as the enemy was focused on counterattacking, the efficiency of the search would be reduced. All he needed to do was buy a little more time. Once his ability was unsealed, he wouldn't have to skulk around like this anymore.

Not that Law minded... as this slow, methodical dismantling of the enemy was proving to be an oddly satisfying experience for him.

As the enemy began their counterattack, Law showed no signs of halting his relentless hunt.

As time passed, more and more people fell, and the number was about to exceed 100, which meant that Law had killed nearly 100 people during this period of time.

Even in wartime, it is difficult to kill a hundred people, let alone in peacetime.

Before this, Law would never have thought that one day, he would become a murderer with a body count surpassing a hundred.

But there was no need for excuses like self-defense to rationalize his actions. Law believed that these people deserved to die, so he would kill them and he would not feel the slightest bit of guilt.

One swing of his dagger meant one more corpse. As more and more people fell, Law gradually grew accustomed to the slaughter and fully accepted the path he had chosen.

On the other hand, the enemies were growing uneasy. They had lost too many, but they couldn't even catch sight of their enemy.

The mansion, which is shrouded in darkness, was like the gaping maw of a monstrous beast, endlessly devouring anyone who ventured inside.

One of the nine Mafia's leaders cursed angrily, then grabbed a rocket launcher, and fired it at a corner of the mansion.

The rocket landed on the second floor of the mansion and exploded with a thunderous boom. The wall collapsed, glass fragments were blown away by the air wave, and the aftermath of the explosion left behind a surging flame.

The other Mafia's leaders didn't say anything when they saw this. They were also feeling annoyed at this moment and wanted to blow up the mansion.

After firing the first rocket, this person did not stop and shoot another rocket after reloading.

"That's enough. Calm down." When this person was about to fire the third rocket, the other Mafia's leaders immediately dissuaded him.

Two rockets to vent their anger were acceptable, but bringing the entire mansion down was unthinkable. After all, their men were still inside, and burning the valuable loot to ashes would leave them with nothing to gain.

After being stopped, the man begrudgingly handed the rocket launcher to a subordinate and glared at the now-burning mansion with cold eyes.

While the bad news is that their men were still dying, the good news is that the enemies are now trapped in a smaller area, even though that is achieved by stacking up a lot of corpses.

The explosions caused by the two rockets shook the mansion twice and frightened the Mafia's members inside the house, spurring them to compress the search area further.

Law didn't care about that and kept reaping these people's lives.

Over the next twenty minutes, using his increasingly refined hunting techniques, he toyed with the three hundred gang members as if they were pawns in his hands. Eventually, their numbers dwindled by half, but they had also narrowed the search area to just outside the monitoring room.

Once the space became too confined, Law could no longer continue his silent assassination game, but at this time, his Nen Ability had been unsealed and he no longer needed to use sneak attacks to deal with the enemy.

"Just in time to... finish them all!"

Law's eyes gleamed as he walked through the corridor leading to the monitoring room. The decorations around him, which were still some distance away from him, shattered into tiny particles silently.

As he walked along, all the decorations along the way, even the paintings hanging on the wall, were destroyed. Without any movement, they were shattered into particles.

This was Law's way of testing the powers he had unlocked through his transformation. By the time he reached the monitoring room, he had left a trail of destruction in his wake.

The devastating potential of his new abilities, with an average Awakening Rates of 20%, was staggering. And now, he would use these Mafia's members as his first real test subjects, using God Hand to kill without adding any burden to the pages of his book.

"Turn the power back on."

After entering the monitoring room, Law looked calm, and his first words were to ask Kenda to turn on the power.

Before all the cameras were destroyed, Kenda had witnessed how Law attacked and killed hundreds of enemies, so he complied without hesitation. As for the two others in the room, they now looked at Law as though he were a monster.

When the power was restored, the Mafia's members who had roughly found the key location were stunned.

Seeing this, the people guarding outside walked into the mansion without hesitation.

In less than an hour, they lost hundreds of people and didn't even know what the enemy looked like. Fortunately, they had found the key position and could eliminate the remaining fish that had escaped even without turning on the lights.

More than two hundred people gathered outside the monitoring room.

One of the more hot-tempered Mafia's leaders raised a rocket launcher and fired it directly at the monitoring room's door.

Boom!

The explosion rocked the building, sending shockwaves echoing throughout. Seeing this, many of them erupted into triumphant laughter.

As long as they get rid of the last fish that has escaped the net, they can start dividing the spoils.

When all the Mafia's members entered the mansion, two groups of uninvited guests arrived outside.
