Gojo Satoru: The Strongest Sorcerer Among Exorcists

Chapter 23: Chapter 22: Gojo Satoru's Advice

Gojo Satoru was chatting with Marin Kitagawa about how she ended up in her accident.

Through their conversation, he learned that she had been hit by a car on her way to school while trying to save a stray puppy. The collision had dislocated her left leg, though, fortunately, she had no other major injuries. In two or three more days, she would be fully recovered.

"Gojo-sensei, do you think I'm stupid for risking myself to save a puppy? If that accident had been worse, I might not be here now."

Marin's tone was somber.

During her hospital stay, her father had traveled from Osaka to visit her. However, instead of consoling her, he had harshly scolded her, saying, "Are you an idiot? Risking your life for a stray dog? What were you thinking?"

Although his words stung, Marin understood that they came from a place of deep concern for her. Afterward, her father had bought her plenty of snacks and fruit, silently expressing his apology.

Seeing Marin's slightly lost expression, Gojo fell silent for a moment before speaking gently.

"Saving a life is never wrong. You did something incredible, Marin-chan."

"Huh?" Marin blinked in surprise, looking at him.

"But…" Gojo's tone shifted.

"When saving someone—or something—you must always consider whether you can do so without putting yourself at serious risk. Your own life should always come first."

"Marin-chan, I don't want you—or anyone else—to sacrifice yourself recklessly for others. There are so many people in this world who care about you."

Gojo's voice carried a weight of sincerity and complexity.

The world isn't as peaceful as it appears. Danger can arise at any moment, and lessons like this should be etched into one's mind. If the next time something happens it's in Magano, and Marin rushes in to help, she could easily lose her life. That's not heroism—that's throwing her life away.

Marin listened quietly, her expression thoughtful, as she pondered Gojo's words.

"Arigatou (thank you), Gojo-sensei!" she finally said, breaking into a radiant smile.

The burden she had carried seemed to dissolve, her heart finally at ease.

Midday: 12:10 PM

"Well, I should get going. Would you like me to bring you lunch, Marin-chan?" Gojo asked, stretching lazily as he prepared to leave for lunch.

Seeing her left leg wrapped in bandages, he couldn't help but ask.

"Lunch? Oh, no need, Gojo-sensei. The nurse will bring it soon," Marin replied with a warm smile.

She couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that he was leaving. Their conversation had been engaging, and she found herself enjoying his company.

Still, she consoled herself with the thought that in just a couple more days, she'd be discharged. Then, she could finally start working on her dream of making and wearing cosplay outfits!

"Alright then, I'll be on my way…" Gojo said as he stood up. But just as he turned to leave, he froze mid-step, his gaze fixed on the window.

"What's wrong, Gojo-sensei?" Marin asked curiously, tilting her head.

"Iie (no), it's just that lunch might have to wait," Gojo replied casually, stepping closer to the window and peering outside.

With his Six Eyes, he could sense an intensely unpleasant aura emanating near the hospital entrance. This wasn't the work of Kegare from Magano, but something else entirely—another type of malevolent force.

"Demons…" he muttered under his breath.

In this world, it wasn't just Onmyōji and Kegare that existed. There were also numerous other supernatural creatures, including demons. These demons didn't originate from myths or folklore but hailed from a dimension called the Void Realm (Gehenna). At their pinnacle was a being known as Satan, the ruler of the Void Realm.

Humanity had its own way of dealing with demons, through specialized organizations like the Exorcist Cram School. Though Onmyōji could combat demons, their primary responsibility lay in dealing with Kegare. Only when resources allowed would they assist exorcists in demon-related conflicts.

"Is something happening outside?" Marin asked, noticing how intently Gojo was staring out the window.

Unable to move due to her injured leg, she craned her neck, trying to catch a glimpse of what was outside. Before she could see anything, Gojo stepped away and shut the window.

"Sigh…"

Marin pouted in disappointment, puffing her cheeks slightly. "I wanted to see!"

"Nope, no peeking allowed," Gojo said with a mischievous smile, reaching out to ruffle her blonde hair affectionately.

"Gojo-sensei, you're so annoying…" Marin muttered, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush as she fidgeted under his touch.
