Chapter 135: Chapter 135: The Invader’s Control Techniques
Chapter 135: The Invader's Control Techniques
The blonde woman clutched Sophia's hand, her face full of desperation. "Please, take me away first, okay? I'll explain on the way!"
Without hesitation, Sophia grabbed the blonde woman and ran. There was no need for pointless questions like, "No, you have to tell me everything first."
She was a novelist, a master at crafting stories. She had an innate sense for distinguishing truth from lies.
Surprisingly, their escape was smooth, and they soon reached Sophia's car. The blonde woman touched the car window and began to sob uncontrollably. It wasn't clear if it was the sight of modern technology after so long or simply the hope of escaping that overwhelmed her.
Her crying was heart-wrenching.
Sophia started the car and asked, "What's going on? Tell me now."
The blonde woman took a moment to calm down, her voice still quivering with sobs. "I was tricked into coming here! We all were! That invader told us Mang Village was a paradise, safe from demonic beasts! But it's not true!
"The village chief is the invader! That damned man—his name is Arkarin Moja! He must be a spy! You have to call the authorities!"
Sophia frowned. "But there's no sign of demonic beasts attacking Mang Village. You've even managed to cultivate farmland on the mountain."
The blonde woman's eyes filled with terror and traces of hatred. She gritted her teeth and said, "It's all paid for with lives! We women who were deceived into coming here are treated as breeding machines. The newborns are all taken to Northern Mang Mountain as offerings to the beasts there.
"The monster on the mountain loves to eat babies! Women who can't give birth are sent to the mountain and fed to the beasts.
"We're not protected by a Mountain God. We're livestock raised for the demonic beasts!"
Unfortunately, before coming to Northern Mang Mountain, the blonde woman had been a nightclub worker with a chaotic lifestyle, and she had long lost the ability to bear children.
Sophia understood now and believed everything the blonde woman said.
It was rumored that the alien Arkarin race practiced a special ability known as the Control Techniques. Practitioners could communicate with demonic beasts and forge contracts with them. By paying certain prices, they could gain the assistance of these beasts.
While the Control Techniques sounded powerful, Sophia, as the eldest daughter of the prominent Divine family, knew the truth—it was nothing but servitude.
The real essence of the Control Techniques was becoming a slave to the beasts. Just like a servant offering incense and sacrifices to their master, hoping for scraps in return.
The Arkarin race had survived the chaos not because of the power of the Control Techniques but because they had willingly become livestock for the beasts!
The village chief had mentioned that he was a wanderer who couldn't return home because his hometown was too far away. Of course, it was—his homeland was millions of miles away!
No wonder the village chief was so concerned about John's wife's difficult labor. The babies were offerings for the beasts! The demonic beasts spared Mang Village because the villagers themselves were the livestock.
In such an environment, many humans would inevitably become pawns of the beasts—like the red-haired woman, the chief's other wife.
This village was dangerous!
Sophia frantically tried to start the car, but it wouldn't budge.
"Hurry up! If they find out we escaped, they'll kill us!" the blonde woman urged, panic in her voice.
Sophia wiped sweat from her brow. "The car's been tampered with!"
Suddenly, the blonde woman grabbed Sophia's hand, trembling but silent.
Sensing something was wrong, Sophia glanced at the rearview mirror.
The village chief, leading a mob of villagers armed with hoes and pitchforks, was storming toward them, fury in their eyes.
"What do we do? What do we do?"
The blonde woman's face turned deathly pale, her bloodless lips trembling.
"I'm going to die. Tonight, I'll be sent to the mountain. I'll be eaten," she whispered.
She knew exactly what would happen to her once she was sent up the mountain. Her death wouldn't be quick or merciful. She would endure unimaginable torture before being torn apart and consumed by the demonic beasts.
Knock, knock, knock.
The rhythmic tapping on the car window made the blonde woman tremble violently.
In the tense silence, Sophia could hear the sound of the blonde woman losing control of herself.
Sophia frowned, her gaze fixed on the village chief's scruffy face outside the window.
It no longer held the kind, simple look from before—it was now laced with malice.
Without a word, Sophia subtly locked the car windows and reached for her phone to make a call.
But there was no signal.
The village chief forced a thin smile. "Great writer, did my wife say something to you? She has mental issues—you shouldn't believe her."
Sophia's expression remained calm as she responded. "Is that so? I have good connections in North Sea. I can help get your wife treated. Once she's recovered, I'll personally bring her back as a token of thanks for granting me this interview."
The village chief's face contorted, and his hand, which had been tapping on the glass, turned to pounding.
Sophia's car was expensive, with reinforced windows that no ordinary human strength could break.
The village chief nursed his swollen fist, stepped back a few paces, and pointed angrily at the villagers.
"You useless fools! What are you standing there for? Smash the car! The women inside—have your way with them!"
Hearing his command, the villagers raised their hoes and pitchforks, hammering on the car with full force.
The loud thud, thud, thud sounds of the blows made the blonde woman burst into tears again. "What do we do?! We're going to die!"
Sophia snorted coldly and placed her glowing, white hands on the car's roof.
The car emitted a golden light, resembling an impenetrable bell.
No matter how hard the villagers struck, they couldn't leave a single scratch on the car.
"Stop!" the village chief barked, waving the villagers away.
He stepped back to the car, his eyes gleaming as he looked at Sophia.
"An Awakened? You're an Awakened?" he asked, almost delighted.
Sophia didn't respond, maintaining the golden barrier around the car.
The village chief smiled slyly.
"Great writer, let's have a little chat, shall we?"
Sophia glanced at him and replied evenly, "Sure, let's talk. What do you want me to do to let us go?"
Even as she spoke, her hands moved under the steering wheel, furiously sending messages to Meng Xing on her hidden phone.
She knew Yang Ni had already returned to North Sea, and in South Sea, Meng Xing was the only person she could count on.
The village chief noticed Sophia's subtle actions but didn't stop her.
South Sea was far from here—he didn't believe anyone could reach this remote place within five hours. He had plenty of time to deal with Sophia.
The village chief said with a grin, "The Mountain God desires a wife like you. Join me in serving the Mountain God. I guarantee your safety and a life of luxury for the rest of your days."
Sophia glanced at her phone.
The messages she sent were still spinning, stuck without connection.
