Chapter 48: Kekekekekekeke
The goblin jerked but Jael held tight. No way he was letting this annoying creature go; he brought down his sword lightning-quick and cut it open from the chest down. The goblin let out a shrill sound that cut off immediately, but it was enough to alert the others.
The goblins turned to him, ignoring his teammates. There were about five of them remaining in total, and their focused attention made Jael smirked.
He pounced on the closest one, a blur of blue, and his sword flashed in his eyes the as he brought it down sharply; the goblin didn't have the chance to feel much surprise as it fell without a head.
"Now then. Why don't I take care of the rest of you too? Wait, so this is how I'll get the green coins!" The body of the dead goblins melted quickly and turned into a liquid goo with a coin in the middle. Jael picked it up and it looked like an ordinary coin but green instead.
The goblins shifted wearily among themselves. They are C-rank Iron, and the only way they have been able to defeat enemies like Jael and his teammates was to hide inside the darkness that clouds everything.
'Now, they are faced with me' He leaped at the next, sword swinging up and down. The goblins ran then, trying to make their way outside, but Jael was ready, and he cast his spell [Dance of the bones] on the bones he brought from his ring.
Three needle-shaped bones burning with green fire hit them each in the back and the paralyzing spell in them released. The goblins stiffened and fell. Jael dragged them back. "You are paralyzed but you can still feel pain. I should make you feel what I felt as you hunt me in the dark."
He made it quick and efficient. He started with their limbs and cut them off one after the other, and then he left them in pain as he went to his teammates and led them to one another while he explained the situation.
After, he went to the Goblins and took care of them, scooping up the green coins their body produced with satisfaction.
"What should we do?" Litha was relieved to get back with the others and for them to find a way to hunt the monsters. Little creepers made her shivers.
"Can't we just continue to stay here under the shield?" Tim asked as he glanced at the others through dim blurry light.
They were back to holding hands in a circle.
"We can stay under the shield," Temur said. "But it seems the darkness is tampering with our magic. Litha's shield broke when it shouldn't have. And right now, we can only depend on Jael."
"Right. I can sense my surroundings now and any monsters that tried to use the darkness to attack will face me." Jael nodded. "And we have four green coins."
"We don't know if that would be enough for us. We are more than four." Cele said.
"The spirit said we should gather green coins but not the amount we need." Litha replied.
"Then we go outside and kill as much as we can. There must be a lot of goblins out there with not enough Awakeners to hunt them." Jael was hitching to kill more of the little monsters.
It was decided that they followed Jael outside. The team didn't have much of a choice after all. Only him could protect them, so they followed him out, single file, the one behind holding the one in front.
Outside was total chaos as goblins run after blind Awakeners. Most of the Awakeners have multiple wounds on them and they shouted and scream in horror as a they were hunted.
The goblins are enjoying this, they are nimble and dance around them, cutting with sharp knives. All those small wounds would accumulate and not even potions would help because they would just be cut again until they finally finish them off.
Jael's eyes hardened. This is no more a trial. This is close to a hunting game. As if the Awakeners are animals in a forest and the goblins are the hunters. "I'll leave you now, Litha make a shield around yourself. I won't go far." His voice came out rigid.
He waited until they covered themselves in shield and then he began to walk down the village. "How will it feel for the hunter to be the hunted?"
His sword sang in the air, lashing out with merciless slashes and killing the goblins. The street began to be littered with the bodies of dead monsters that quickly melted and turned into coins.
He killed and killed, his sword whipping out like iron whip that coiled around flesh, rending it like papers. The goblins realized that he could see them. 'Kekekeke?!!'
'Kekekekekeke!!'
The goblins surrounded them, knifes flashed towards him like silver rain. Jael blinked as they slowly close in on him. "I'm not good with this sword, then again, I'm a Necromancer!"
Jael brought out hundred of bone needles. It's a mixture of one he got from fire monsters and paralyzing ones. Then there's one he got from ice orcs. Jael grinned. "Dance of the bones."
The bones lit up around him like green fireflies.
Jael gestured and the needles exploded outward with the speed of bullet. The air ripped as the spell caused a shockwave. Then the needles hit the goblins and punched through with brutal efficiency.
Monsters crumbled around him like wet bleeding rags. "I don't even have to activate the spell in the bones. I should use this spell more."
He waited until the ground beneath him turned into a green puddle and then he picked up the coins. "Let me return to the team and see how they're doing."
He did and found them surrounded by goblins. The needles did the work and Jael intentionally used the spell in the bones just to enjoy the scream the monsters made as they burn or freeze to death.
The rest he killed with the sword.
