Chapter 211. The Sister Who’s Already Learned to Call Out Answers (16)
After that, Sister Belinda said she would finish cleaning up shortly.
And Noah followed Clotilde into the cathedral.
Because it was late, only a few worshippers remained in the main hall.
But a few were still a few, so Clotilde pulled Noah into a storeroom.
This, of course, didn’t mean Clotilde wanted Noah to help her tidy up.
“So, Mr. Noah? You really did spend the entire afternoon at a brothel investigating?”
Putting aside whatever Noah and Sister Belinda were saying with smiles outside, she really wanted to know if Noah had really gone to a brothel that afternoon.
And that’s why he’s only just getting back now?
“Why, where do you think I would have gone?”
Noah wasn’t worried that Clotilde would do anything bad to him in the small room, so he wore a light and carefree smile, looking at the nun in front of him with a teasing gaze.
“I-is that so, so you did go then.”
Hearing that, Clotilde pressed her hand to her head, a headache forming.
She had been hoping that maybe Noah was just lying, and hadn’t actually gone to a brothel, but had been investigating elsewhere?
Looks like she was overthinking it.
“Didn’t I tell you, I even went to learn some techniques while I was at it, Sister, you can look forward to the next time.”
“W-what ‘look forward to the next time’! I’m not looking forward to it, okay!”
The nun who was already having a headache felt her headache get worse when she heard this, and her face flushed red.
It was like she was worried if Noah could still perform properly or not?
She wasn’t worried about that, okay!
“Oh? No expectations, huh? But Sister, you’ve been getting more and more difficult lately. Guess the stimulation isn’t enough, need some changes, right?”
“That last time was just to humiliate the succubus! It was a special situation! Who’d expect you to do *that* kind of thing! Please use your rare gentleness somewhere else, okay?”
In the small room, the two of them exchanged words, one after the other.
It was, arguably, a peaceful and happy scene, but for Clothilde, it was emotionally complex.
She wished Noah would take care of her in other ways, not this kind.
“Enough, as long as you’re okay, that’s all I wanted to say. Get some rest.”
Knowing the conversation would only continue down this path, Clothilde nodded at Noah, planning to walk past him and leave the room through the door behind him.
Thinking she actually should rest today, Noah didn’t try to annoy her further, instead intending to follow her out.
Who knew the Sister would suddenly turn back? Instead of leaving, she paused, hand on the doorknob.
Just as Noah was about to ask what was wrong, the Sister spoke first:
“Mr. Noah… you didn’t say anything strange to Sister Belinda, did you?”
Hearing this, Noah was slightly stunned, then smirked with a hint of sarcasm.
*What a joke*, so she was worried he’d sold her out.
Clothilde, her back to Noah, had an expression of disbelief.
*Why did I even ask that?!*
How embarrassing! It sounded like she was suspecting Noah and Belinda.
But… she did feel an inexplicable unease…
“What do you mean by ‘strange’? Sister Belinda just asked where I was going, and I just told her I was doing an investigation. I didn’t even mention going to a brothel, okay? Or what, would you prefer I go tell her the truth now?”
As Noah’s teasing voice sounded from behind her, Clothilde felt a wave of relief, though she didn’t know why.
Still, Noah’s usual attitude was unacceptable, so she purposefully replied, displeased:
“It’s best if nothing happened. These are our secrets. Father Noah, don’t forget, we’ve already sinned, but we can’t drag innocent people into it. The suc-succubi are the exception! Because they’re not innocent!”
Finishing, almost as if she’d predicted Noah would point out the flaw in her logic using the succubi, the Sister preemptively covered it, glaring back at Noah with some annoyance.
Noah, of course, just shrugged, indicating he had nothing to say.
Seeing Noah didn’t intend to provoke her, the Sister’s expression gradually softened, and she finally left the room.
But Noah didn’t immediately follow her out. Instead, he stroked his chin, thinking.
Come to think of it, his recent actions toward the Sister had been a little too ‘gentle’.
He definitely needed to increase her dislike of him. It’d be bad if she became too infatuated after her corruption.
Noyah, thankfully, wasn’t worried about finding ways to annoy the Sister.
A night passed in a blink.
The next morning, Noyah was out with Clothilde again, the two first heading to other churches in the Water City to help with the clerical duties.
After that, they went to the outskirts of the Water City to grind some levels in a dungeon.
They didn’t get back to the Water City Cathedral until almost afternoon.
And they’d barely returned when Bishop Horace, standing before the altar for the prayer service, cheerfully walked right over to them.
“Oh, oh, children, you’re back, huh? By the Goddess’s protection, it’s so good to see you returned safely.”
Horace greeted them, looking outwardly very polite, but his eyes were fixed only on Clothilde.
“Bishop Horace, is there something specific you wanted to say to us? Did some strange phenomenon occur at another church that requires my attention?”
Before Horace, Clothilde acted even more humble and proper, her words full of respect for him.
“Not at all, Sister Clothilde, actually I wanted to talk about the matter you discussed with me before; that merchant has reformed himself, you don’t need to worry about him anymore.”
And when Horace said this.
The look on Clothilde’s face, when she turned to Horace, was noticeably filled with even more respect and admiration, clearly she was completely awestruck by Horace.
“Is that so! Ahh, surely the Goddess is pleased, people turning from evil will always be a reason to celebrate. As expected of Bishop Horace, thank you for your trouble.”
The Sister’s eyes seemed to literally shine with admiration as she looked at Horace.
Which made Horace secretly proud of himself.
See, he could get her to act so respectfully just by lying to her a little, which was exactly why he liked this Sister!
But the two, in their happy bubble, didn’t notice Noyah, who they had forgotten about, now sporting a faint, mocking smile.
Tricking this trusting Sister, huh?
Good, keep at it.
Because the higher her favorability of you goes now, the worse it’ll sting when the truth comes out.
