Genshin Impact: Transmigrated as Furina's Second Personality

Chapter 89: War Breaks Out!

When Fontaine issued its statement condemning Liyue, Liyue quickly responded with an official announcement.

The Liyue Qixing took a stance of feigned surprise, adopting an attitude of, "This happened? We had no idea!"

Liyue's Jade Chamber declared that the actions of the Fatui within Liyue's borders had been conducted with excessive secrecy. Without Fontaine's reminder, they claimed they would still have been unaware of these activities.

Liyue expressed shock and anger over the Fatui's provocations against Fontaine on Liyue's soil, stating that such actions gravely damaged the longstanding friendship between the two nations, cultivated since the end of the Archon War. Moreover, these actions created significant burdens on regional peace and stability.

Liyue announced a unilateral decision to terminate its peace and cooperation agreement with Snezhnaya, cutting diplomatic ties and shutting down the Snezhnayan Bank's Liyue branch.

All Fatui personnel within Liyue were now declared enemies of the nation.

Liyue committed to deploying its Millelith forces to purge all Fatui remnants across its territories. To express regret and goodwill toward Fontaine, it also granted Fontaine's military permission to cross the border to eliminate Fatui forces within Liyue.

As previously mentioned, Zhongli, seeking to relinquish his position as Archon and return power to humanity, aimed to remove lingering threats before stepping down. While the issues posed by Azhdaha and Osial had been resolved, the Fatui remained a persistent concern.

No sovereign nation would tolerate foreign troops on its soil, and this was the perfect opportunity for Zhongli and Felina, the two master tacticians, to work in tandem. Together, they presented Liyue with the justification it needed to rid itself of the Fatui once and for all.

The Liyue Qixing, being as astute as ever, immediately grasped the deeper implications of this maneuver. They seized this rare opportunity and worked harder than anyone else to execute their plan.

"The Fatui are running amok in Liyue's territory!"

"Today, they're using Liyue's land to threaten Fontaine. Who's to say they won't turn against Liyue tomorrow?"

The very thought of the Fatui's massive forces suddenly turning their weapons against Liyue within its borders was chilling.

Under the rallying cry of "protecting the nation," the Liyue Qixing mobilized large contingents of Millelith troops to sweep the country for scattered Fatui forces.

Once these operations were complete, the Millelith consolidated along the Fontaine-Liyue border, forming an unyielding blockade that contained the Fatui troops within the border region.

"This isn't good!"

Both the Captain and the Doctor, who had been closely monitoring the situation, immediately realized that something was amiss.

Initially, the Fatui forces deployed to the border were those already stationed within Liyue, legally present under prior agreements. While gathering these forces at the border might have pushed the limits of protocol, it was still justifiable.

However, as tensions escalated, the Fatui required additional reinforcements to maintain pressure on Fontaine.

While assembling existing Fatui troops already in Liyue could be rationalized, sending new reinforcements from Snezhnaya was entirely unjustifiable.

At the time, the Captain approached Tianquan Ningguang to covertly gauge her stance on the matter of additional troop deployments.

Initially, the Captain was pessimistic about obtaining approval. Surprisingly, Ningguang and the rest of the Liyue Qixing approved the request.

"The recent Osial incident, you've probably heard about it," Ningguang began, her tone calculated.

"Publicly, we claimed that Osial suddenly broke free from his seal, and Rex Lapis joined forces with the Hydro Archon to defeat him. Together, they subdued and placed him under the Hydro Archon's control.

"But in truth, the real story was quite different. The Hydro Archon coveted Osial's power and secretly aided him in breaking free of the stone spear's suppression.

"That day, when Osial broke loose, Rex Lapis and the adepti descended to the scene. But just as Rex Lapis was about to slay Osial, the Hydro Archon appeared.

"Many Liyue citizens saw the Hydro Archon and Rex Lapis fighting. Publicly, we claimed it was a sparring match between the two gods, but the truth is, the Hydro Archon battled Rex Lapis to protect Osial.

"Rex Lapis, having exhausted himself battling Osial, was no match for the fully-rested Hydro Archon. In the end, he was injured in the fight and, under the Hydro Archon's pressure, was forced to spare Osial.

"Though we have kept this truth hidden, neither Rex Lapis nor we have ever forgotten this grudge."

Ningguang's eyes glinted sharply, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Frankly, we're more than happy to see the Hydro Archon and Fontaine in trouble.

"If we hadn't tacitly allowed it, the Fatui would have been driven out of the borderlands as soon as they began to gather forces."

The most dangerous lies are those laced with fragments of truth.

With this cleverly spun tale, Ningguang and the rest of the Liyue Qixing successfully deceived the Captain into believing Liyue harbored a deep grudge against Fontaine. This emboldened him to deploy more troops to the Liyue-Fontaine border.

And indeed, as Ningguang had hinted, no matter how many troops the Fatui stationed along the border, Liyue turned a blind eye.

Such blatant permissiveness convinced the Captain that Liyue truly bore animosity toward Fontaine.

But now, with Fontaine's sharp condemnation, Liyue's stance took an abrupt turn.

Deploying troops is no simple matter. It requires careful planning—command structuring, reconnaissance, supply logistics, and more. Yet, as soon as Fontaine issued its statement, Liyue immediately followed with its own, sealing the Snezhnayan Bank and initiating operations against the Fatui.

The speed with which Liyue identified and annihilated the scattered Fatui squads across its territory was astonishing. The precision of their intelligence, the seamless coordination of their military, the clarity of their objectives, and the efficiency of their supply chains—all of it was frighteningly well-executed.

The Millelith moved with lightning speed, like a thunderclap that struck Fatui forces before they could react. Their operations were so swift and decisive that the Captain himself had no time to issue commands before the dispersed Fatui squads were wiped out.

After clearing the scattered Fatui units, large contingents of Millelith converged from all directions along the Fontaine-Liyue border, forming a seamless blockade that trapped the remaining Fatui forces in the borderlands.

Such rapid, methodical action could only have been premeditated.

Coupled with Liyue's declaration permitting Fontaine's troops to cross the border and pursue Fatui forces into Liyue, the Captain finally saw the truth.

This was a trap, meticulously set by Fontaine and Liyue working together!

Would a sovereign nation tolerate foreign troops threatening its sovereignty? Clearly not. It seemed Liyue had long harbored intentions to expel the Fatui but lacked a valid pretext. By cooperating with Fontaine, they found their excuse.

Liyue had allowed the Fatui to gather troops on its soil, creating tensions, only to wait for Fontaine's formal condemnation. With that, Liyue gained the moral high ground to act against the Fatui.

Now, with the Millelith forming an impenetrable blockade along the border, the Fatui's retreat was cut off. Fontaine's forces could cross the border into Liyue and strike freely!

When Liyue issued its response and began a nationwide purge of the Fatui, Fontaine prepared to address the public, as Felina had promised in the Steambird that she would respond to the Fatui's provocations at the border.

Today, Fontaine's court was packed to the brim. Streets and alleys overflowed with countless citizens eager to witness the announcement.

Below the Palais Mermonia, Fontaine's military stood in orderly formation. The soldiers' faces were set with unwavering resolve, their eyes sharp and menacing.

The recent provocations by the Fatui at the borders, coupled with the attempted assassination of Furina by one of their Harbingers, had deeply insulted both the nation's dignity and its divine faith.

All of Fontaine burned with suppressed rage, and the tension among the ranks of soldiers radiated as an invisible aura of killing intent.

Finally, the clock struck twelve.

Under the expectant gazes of the crowd, Felina stepped onto the high platform.

"Citizens of Fontaine," she began, her voice steady and commanding, "you have gathered here because you are deeply concerned about the state of our nation."

"First, as your Hydro Archon, I thank you for your care and patriotism. Your love for our country is evident, and having citizens such as you is Fontaine's greatest fortune."

"I will not waste words. Let us address the matters that weigh on your hearts."

Standing on the platform, surveying the sea of people, Felina spoke with solemnity:

"Six months ago, the Primordial Sea grew restless. To save the people of Fontaine, I sought to use the power of the Gnosis to calm the turmoil of the Primordial Sea waters."

"Yet the Fatui intervened, ambushing me in an attempt to steal the Gnosis. Had they succeeded, all of Fontaine's people would have been dissolved into the Primordial Sea!"

"Several months ago, while visiting Liyue, I was ambushed by the Harbinger Scaramouche, who sought to kill me when my strength was depleted."

"For more than three months now, the Fatui have been amassing troops at our borders, escalating their harassment against Fontaine. Their numbers continue to grow."

"At present, 120,000 Fatui soldiers have gathered along our desert border, while 80,000 have been stationed at the Liyue border!"

"Their forces have reached an unprecedented scale, disrupting the peace and stability of our border regions. This is a blatant provocation against Fontaine!"

"The Fatui's actions have left our border citizens living in constant fear, unable to sleep or eat in peace. Families separated by borders cannot meet."

"They have blockaded waterways, preventing our goods from reaching foreign markets and foreign grain from entering Fontaine. Merchants are struggling, and our people are without food!"

"They have obstructed our engineering teams in the desert, halting projects meant to aid desert dwellers. Workers and desert inhabitants alike are now displaced, suffering unspeakable hardships!"

Felina paused, giving the crowd time to absorb her words.

Silence enveloped the scene. The gravity of the nation's grievances and the people's personal losses weighed heavily. Anger and hatred etched themselves onto the faces of countless citizens, fists clenched in unison.

The atmosphere in Fontaine's court became oppressively tense.

Seeing that emotions had reached their peak, Felina spoke again, this time with a heavy sigh that drew all eyes back to her.

"Guided by principles of peace and development, I have sought to avoid conflict. Yet time and again, our restraint has only emboldened our enemies!"

"The events of the past six months have made one thing clear: the Fatui are determined to destroy Fontaine!"

"They have also made it clear that in international relations, strength is the only foundation of justice!"

"Power is the strongest shield to protect our nation and its people!"

"Dignity rests on the blade of a sword! Truth lies within the range of cannon!"

With the eyes of the entire nation upon her, Felina signaled for the nearly incapacitated Scaramouche to be dragged onto the stage.

Scaramouche knelt, powerless and utterly defeated.

Felina gazed down at him, her expression resolute, embodying the image of a blood-stained sovereign.

There was no pity in her eyes for the Harbinger. She had no intention of explaining the truths of Tatarasuna to him, nor of attempting to guide him toward redemption.

She was not Scaramouche's parent; she had no obligation to guide him onto the path of redemption, nor did she have the right to forgive him on behalf of those he had killed.

A life for a life, a debt repaid in kind—this was only natural.

Death was his ultimate destination, a fitting end to his chaotic, confused, and fragile existence. In a way, it was also a release for him.

If there truly was a hell in this world, Scaramouche would understand the truth once he arrived. At that time, he could repent and apologize to those he had killed in the depths of hell.

Felina extended her hand, and a sword of pure Hydro elemental energy formed in her grasp.

There was no hesitation, no mercy.

Under Scaramouche's trembling gaze, she raised the sword high and brought it down in a single decisive stroke.

Empowered by divine energy, the blue sword was peerlessly sharp. It cut through Scaramouche without resistance, cleaving him in two on the spot.

With a single strike, Scaramouche was executed. Felina stepped forward.

"Today, with the life of this Fatui Harbinger, I raise the banner of war and declare my resolve!"

Under the watchful eyes of the masses, Felina raised her arm and shouted:

"For Fontaine! For justice! For dignity! I declare war on Snezhnaya!"

From the high platform, as the words of the Hydro Archon resounded, the emotions of the countless citizens below erupted.

"Long live Fontaine!"

"Long live Lady Furina!"

"For Fontaine!"

The crowd roared with fervor, their shouts like a tidal wave crashing through the streets.

On the opposite side of the platform, Nahida quietly observed Felina, her heart filled with a touch of envy.

She envied Felina for earning such unwavering trust from the people of Fontaine and for her ability to unite the nation's will so effortlessly.

Beside her, Neuvillette watched Felina with a mix of astonishment and pride.

Once, he had seen Furina as a lively, naive young girl. But now, she had become a sovereign whose rallying cry could unify all of Fontaine, a ruler capable of outmaneuvering nations.

And yet, this transformation had taken less than half a year.

The rapid shift left Neuvillette with a sense of surreal dissonance, but also a deep satisfaction and pride.

In the shadows, Focalors observed everything with a heart heavy with complexity.

She had been privy to the strategies and decisions Felina had enacted over this time.

Focalors felt both worry and admiration for Felina.

Her concern stemmed from Felina's decisions, plans, and methods, which were often too daring, too risky.

Granting independence to the desert, inciting chaos in Inazuma, involving Raiden Shogun's kin in a missile strike against their own god, and now, pulling Fontaine into a war with Snezhnaya—

Who else would dare to take such bold steps?

Yet, Focalors could not deny the remarkable scope of Felina's achievements in just six months.

Felina was undeniably a god of unparalleled courage and extraordinary vision.

Focalors couldn't help but reflect: If she were in Felina's position, she wouldn't have dared to make such decisions.

Nor could she manage Fontaine as effectively as Felina had.

Time and again, Felina's feats left Focalors with a strange, unsettling thought: perhaps it was she who was the fragmented persona, while Felina was the true Hydro Archon.
