Chapter 48: What makes a person Human
Aether then used the 5th ture magic Blue, to close there portal to this place blocking them for ever
As the remnants of the Abyss Order's presence faded into the shadows, Aether felt a sense of relief wash over him. "I think I've had enough of fighting for today," he said, a hint of exhaustion creeping into his voice.
Issei crossed his arms, disappointment etched on his face. "I expected more of a fight. You know, something epic with a big showdown and all that."
Aether chuckled, shaking his head. "Sometimes, it's better to resolve things quietly. Not every battle needs to end in chaos and destruction."
Rosaria smirked, her gaze drifting to the remnants of the abyss mages. "Spoken like a true scholar, Aether. But I have to agree with Issei; I was hoping for a bit more excitement."
"Excitement doesn't always mean victory," Aether replied, glancing around the chamber. "What matters is that we stopped them. We'll have time for the dramatic showdowns later."
"Yeah, but it's way more fun when you're fighting!" Issei insisted, his enthusiasm undeterred. "I mean, think of all the glory!"
"Glory is overrated," Rosaria interjected, a teasing smile on her lips. "It's not like you need more of that, Issei. You're already a walking trophy."
"Hey!" Issei protested, but there was laughter in his voice. The tension that had hung in the air began to lift, replaced by a lighter camaraderie.
As they collected the artifacts, Aether focused on the task at hand. He could still feel the pulse of magic lingering in the air, a reminder of the power they had just faced. "We should hurry back and report to Albedo and Sucrose. They'll want to know about what we found here."
Issei nodded, grabbing the last of the weapons. "Right! Let's not keep them waiting then."
As they made their way back through the cavern, Aether couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning. The Abyss Order was still out there, plotting and scheming, and he couldn't allow them the chance to regroup.
"Hey, Aether," Issei said as they walked. "What do you think the Abyss Order's next move will be?"
Aether sighed, deep in thought. "They're likely going to try to find another way to gain power. After all, they were using Dvalin before. If they want to resurrect Khaenri'ah, they'll need powerful allies."
Rosaria added, "We should inform the knights of Favonius as well. They need to be aware of the potential threat."
"Agreed," Aether replied, his mind racing with possibilities. "But we have to approach it carefully. If we raise alarms too soon, we might cause panic, and that's the last thing we need."
As they exited the cavern and stepped back into the chilly air of Dragonspine, Aether felt the weight of their mission settle over him. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the landscape, and he couldn't shake the feeling of eyes watching them from the dark.
"Do you think they know we're onto them?" Issei asked, glancing over his shoulder nervously.
"I wouldn't be surprised," Aether said. "The Abyss Order is always one step ahead. We need to be vigilant."
As they trudged through the snow, the atmosphere grew tense again. Each rustle of the wind, each crunch of their footsteps felt amplified in the stillness.
"Let's pick up the pace," Aether suggested, a sense of urgency in his tone. "I don't want to linger out here longer than necessary."
With a nod, the group quickened their pace, determination driving them forward. The cold air bit at their skin, but their focus remained unbroken. They were a team, and together, they would face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As they approached the research lab, the warm glow of lights welcomed them, and Aether felt a flicker of hope. They were still fighting, still moving forward, and that's what mattered.
Albedo and Sucrose were already there, engaged in a quiet discussion. Albedo looked up as they entered, his expression shifting to concern. "You're back earlier than expected. Did you find anything?"
Aether stepped forward, holding up one of the artifacts they had gathered. "We did. The Abyss Order has been using this place to conduct experiments and gather relics related to Khaenri'ah. They're planning something big."
Sucrose's eyes widened as she glanced at the object in Aether's hand. "That's incredible... but also troubling. We need to study these carefully."
Albedo nodded, his demeanor serious. "We'll need to analyze every piece. If we can understand their intentions, we may be able to thwart their plans before they can take action."
Issei stepped forward, his earlier disappointment forgotten. "And what about Dvalin? Is he safe now?"
Aether glanced at Rosaria before answering. "For now, he's free from their control. But we have to keep a close eye on him. The Abyss Order won't give up easily, and they may try to manipulate him again."
Rosaria crossed her arms, her gaze fierce. "Then we'll make sure that doesn't happen. We'll protect Dvalin and anyone else who might fall victim to them."
"Right," Aether said, a sense of unity strengthening their resolve. "We have to stay vigilant and work together. The fight isn't over yet, but we're ready for whatever comes next."
As the group began to strategize, Aether felt a flicker of hope. They were stronger together, and as long as they stood united, they could face any darkness that threatened Teyvat.
The road ahead was uncertain, but they were ready to confront it head-on, armed with knowledge, determination, and the bonds they had forged. Together, they would be the light that pushed back against the shadows of the Abyss.
Albedo then looked at Aether. "Can we talk Aether"
Aether looked at him. "Sure"
As they left, the abyss treat was done and Aether had completed his mission, him and Albedo went back to there lab, as they sat down they looked at eachother
Albedo looked at Aether. "Tell me Aether is someone that is not born from Natural needs not human".
Aether looked at him. "What do you mean".
Albedo looked at him and spoke. "What if someone was Born as artificial entity's, would that person be really alive"
Paimon looked at Albedo. "Paimon doesn't like where this is going".
Aether just looked at him and spoke. "Yes, I think you are really a Human Albedo"
Albedo looked at him and blinked. "Was it that easy to figure out".
Aether looked at him. "Not really but what is your story".
Albedo leaned back in his chair, a contemplative look crossing his face. "It's not something I often share," he began, his voice steady but tinged with uncertainty. "I was created by the late Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius, an artificial human designed to possess the intelligence and abilities of a scholar, yet with none of the natural flaws of humanity."
Aether nodded slowly, processing Albedo's words. "So you're saying you're not human in the traditional sense?"
"I was crafted to be a perfect alchemist, a vessel of knowledge and power. But as I've existed in this world, I've come to learn and adapt. I've developed emotions, connections, and a desire to understand my place in the world," Albedo explained, his gaze unwavering. "The question of whether I am truly alive has haunted me since I gained consciousness."
Paimon, perched on the table, fidgeted nervously. "Paimon still doesn't like this! It sounds all creepy and stuff! Like, how can someone just be... made?"
"Paimon's not wrong," Aether said, his voice calming. "But being alive isn't just about how you were created. It's about the experiences you have and the choices you make."
Albedo's expression softened slightly. "You think so?"
"Absolutely," Aether replied with conviction. "You care for your friends, you protect those in need, and you seek knowledge not just for yourself but to help others. Those traits are what define life. Your existence may have begun in an unconventional manner, but that doesn't diminish its significance."
Albedo seemed to ponder Aether's words, a small smile creeping onto his lips. "Thank you, Aether. I needed to hear that."
Paimon floated closer, a mixture of curiosity and concern in her eyes. "But what about the other artificial beings? What if they don't have feelings like Albedo?"
"Just like humans, not everyone has the same capacity for emotion or empathy," Aether explained. "But that doesn't mean they aren't alive in their own way. Perhaps they are simply on their own journey to discover what it means to be alive."
Albedo nodded, clearly appreciative of the discussion. "You're right. Maybe the path to becoming truly alive is a journey that takes time, regardless of one's origin."
The two sat in thoughtful silence for a moment before Aether leaned forward. "But Albedo, do you ever feel conflicted about your existence? About being different?"
Albedo hesitated before answering. "Sometimes. I've met beings who were born of flesh and blood, and I can't help but wonder what it's like to be like them. To feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, to laugh and cry without understanding the science behind it."
Aether smiled. "Those moments are precious, but I believe you can create your own experiences. You've already formed bonds with people who care about you. That makes you more human than you realize."
Paimon chirped in, "Yeah! Look at us! We're a team, and that's what makes us special!"
Albedo regarded them both, a newfound sense of clarity shining in his eyes. "Thank you, Aether and Paimon. Your support means more than you know. I'll continue to explore what it means to be alive, and I will cherish the relationships I have."
Just then, the door swung open, revealing Sucrose, her arms full of scrolls and alchemical equipment. "Sorry to interrupt, but I found some interesting notes on the Abyss Order's rituals. We might be able to glean more about their plans!"
Albedo's expression brightened, and he swiftly rose to his feet. "Excellent work, Sucrose! Let's get to it!"
As they delved into the notes and began discussing their findings, Aether felt a sense of camaraderie enveloping them. In that moment, he realized that regardless of their origins or the nature of their existence, they were united by a common purpose, striving together to protect Teyvat from the darkness that threatened it.
Aether leaned back in his chair, watching as Albedo and Sucrose animatedly discussed their research. He smiled to himself, reassured that they were more than just allies; they were a family—crafted from shared experiences, trust, and the determination to fight for their home.
Aether took the notes. "I will give this to jeane and Rosaria"
As he and Paimon left, as then he saw the system
[ Mission Complete: Observe the alchemist Albedo closely and uncover any secrets or unusual behaviour he may display. Ensure his actions do not threaten Mondstadt, does host like too see the rewards ]
Aether looked at the system and spoke. "Yes"
Aether nodded, feeling a sense of accomplishment wash over him. As he glanced at the notification from the Crit System, a golden yellow screen displayed before him, detailing his mission completion.
[ Mission Complete: Observe the alchemist Albedo closely and uncover any secrets or unusual behavior he may display. Ensure his actions do not threaten Mondstadt. Host likes to see the rewards. ]
He chuckled softly to himself. "I guess I did a good job after all."
Paimon fluttered beside him, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What do you mean, Aether? What's the reward?"
Aether's attention shifted back to the screen, where the next prompt awaited him.
[ Reward: 2000 Crit Points acquired. Additional reward: New skill unlocked - 'Observational Insight'. This skill allows the host to discern hidden intentions and emotions from individuals based on their actions and speech. ]
Aether raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Looks like I've unlocked a new skill." He felt a surge of excitement, eager to see how this newfound ability could aid him on his adventures. "This could come in handy for future missions."
"What does that mean?" Paimon asked, tilting her head.
"It means I'll be able to better understand people's true feelings and motives. It's like having a built-in lie detector," Aether explained, grinning. "I can make more informed decisions about who to trust and what actions to take next."
Paimon clapped her tiny hands. "That sounds super useful! But don't go getting too carried away, alright? Remember, it's still about teamwork!"
"Of course!" Aether assured her. "I wouldn't want to over-rely on it. It's just another tool to help us navigate this world."
As they continued down the hallway, Aether reflected on the importance of the relationships he was building. The bonds formed with Albedo, Sucrose, Rosaria, and even Issei were becoming as vital as his skills and abilities.
Just then, he spotted Jean and Rosaria in the courtyard, discussing the recent events regarding the Abyss Order. Aether quickened his pace, eager to share the findings.
"Hey, you two!" he called out, approaching them with Paimon at his side. "I've got some notes from Albedo and Sucrose about the Abyss Order's rituals. I think it'll help us understand their motives."
Jean turned to him, her expression shifting from concern to interest. "Really? That's great news! We've been trying to gather all the information we can."
Rosaria crossed her arms, a skeptical look on her face. "Let's hope it's more than just scribbles and theories."
Aether grinned. "I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Albedo and Sucrose are onto something significant." He handed them the notes, watching as their expressions changed with each line they read.
"Interesting," Jean murmured, glancing up at Aether. "This could give us an edge against them. Good work, Aether."
Rosaria nodded, her demeanor softening slightly. "You've done well. Just keep your guard up around Albedo. We don't know everything about him yet."
"Of course," Aether replied, his mind still buzzing from his conversation with Albedo. "But I believe he's on our side. He genuinely wants to help Mondstadt."
Jean looked thoughtful for a moment, then nodded. "Let's discuss our next steps. We need to ensure the safety of the city and prepare for any threats that may come our way."
As the group strategized, Aether felt the weight of their mission settle on his shoulders. With his new skill and the support of his friends, he was determined to protect Mondstadt from the shadows that loomed on the horizon. The challenges ahead would test them, but together, they could face whatever the Abyss Order threw their way.
And in that moment, surrounded by allies, Aether couldn't help but feel a spark of hope.
