Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The Bai Family Deep Hypnosis Technique
The Goth Grand Hotel is one of the largest and most luxurious hotels in Mondstadt.
Every year during the Windblume Festival, it's typically filled with tourists and merchants from various nations.
However, in recent years, the usual sight of tourists had disappeared, as the entire hotel had been rented out exclusively by the Fatui.
Three years ago, Anastasia, the Fatui envoy counselor, indefinitely rented the hotel under the name of the Fatui Harbinger Pantalone, turning it into a makeshift embassy.
From the guards at the entrance to the cleaning staff, all had been replaced by members of the Fatui.
Many couldn't help but marvel at how only the Fatui, with their vast wealth, could pull off such an extravagant move.
"Ausbilder, sir!"
Upon spotting the dark figure approaching in the distance, Luke immediately straightened up.
Luke had originally been the head of security for the Goth Grand Hotel, but he had let too much information slip to Kaeya.
In the end, Counselor Anastasia stripped him of his position, relegating him to the front door as a mere gatekeeper.
Yet, he held no resentment, knowing that another man, Krobber, who had been accused of similar offenses, hadn't even had his body recovered from the lake near Dawn Winery.
"Open the door."
Though the figure wore a mask, no one dared question his identity.
"Yes, sir!"
Luke quickly opened the hotel's door for him, watching as the man entered the building.
As for the girl slung across his back…
It wasn't his concern.
As long as he guarded the door properly, he'd avoid any further demotions, like being assigned to clean toilets.
Bai Luo did not ask for anyone's help and carried Collei into the hotel alone.
After all, the withering that still afflicted her had yet to be fully cured.
While Bai Luo could disregard such risks, he couldn't assume the same for others.
He gently placed the still-unconscious Collei on the pristine white bed and proceeded to the bathroom to start filling the tub.
Perhaps she had been tormented by the whispers of the god for too long, and now that she was surrounded by silence, her tightly wound nerves had finally begun to relax.
The exhaustion from her long journey, combined with the mental torment, had overwhelmed her, and she had passed out.
As the bath was nearly ready, there was a knock on the door.
It was Lyudmila, a female Fatui envoy often seen whispering with her companions near teleport waypoints.
Upon Bai Luo's return, he had asked her to gather some medicine for him.
While these medicines wouldn't be enough to cure Collei's illness, they could at least alleviate some of her pain.
After carefully adding the medicine to the bath in the proper proportions, Bai Luo approached Collei once more.
The smell of sweat from her long journey, along with the marks the withering had left on her skin, gave her a strange odor.
Bai Luo showed no disdain as he began to remove her tattered clothes and slowly unraveled the bandages wrapped around her body.
The bandages had long since yellowed and had even adhered to her skin, tearing off bits of flesh with an unpleasant stench as they were removed.
"Ugh..."
Collei, still unconscious, slightly twitched her eyelids, showing signs of waking due to the pain.
Seeing this, Bai Luo slowly raised his arm.
Over the years, he had developed a technique to knock someone out without causing injury, which he called the "Bai Family Deep Hypnosis Technique."
He now applied this technique to Collei.
With a soft grunt, Collei's head tilted to the side, and she once again lost consciousness.
After confirming she had passed out, Bai Luo carefully resumed unwrapping the bandages from her body.
Once all the bandages were removed, even Bai Luo couldn't help but marvel—she had grown significantly since their last encounter.
Gently picking her up, Bai Luo carried Collei into the bathroom and placed her into the tub filled with medicinal water.
Aside from her head, her entire body was submerged in the solution.
The medicine was effective, and Collei's once-furrowed brows gradually relaxed, and she even let out a faint snore.
After soaking her for the proper amount of time, Bai Luo lifted her out of the tub, applied healing ointments, and rewrapped her in fresh bandages.
Just as he was about to dress her, a sudden knock on the door interrupted him.
When Bai Luo opened the door, Anastasia, the highest-ranking Fatui member in Mondstadt besides him, stood outside.
"Ausbilder, sir, Mr. Garifra was assassinated before leaving Mondstadt. It seems..." Anastasia trailed off, knowing all too well what that peculiar flame represented.
She even suspected that the one responsible for making both the documents and Garifra disappear was none other than the man standing before her.
"Press Mondstadt for answers. You're better at handling that. Only report back if the situation spirals out of control."
"Understood!" Anastasia replied immediately, relishing Bai Luo's hands-off management style, while Bai Luo appreciated subordinates who could handle everything independently.
The two were well-matched in their mutual respect.
Once Anastasia left, Bai Luo turned his attention back to Collei.
Before continuing his own secretive tasks, he first needed to dress the girl.
Her previous clothes were barely holding together, nearly threadbare.
Returning to the room with a set of fresh clothes, Bai Luo was met with the sharp edge of a fruit knife aimed at him.
Collei had seized the moment he left to attempt a strike.
Her attack was expertly aimed, and if caught off-guard, Bai Luo would certainly have been wounded.
Her survival throughout her travels across the Seven Nations was due not only to the protection of the withering and the power of the god's remnants but also to her assassination skills.
Unfortunately for Collei, she had chosen the wrong opponent.
Bai Luo was the very person who had taught her those assassination techniques. There was no way he would fall victim to his own methods.
Effortlessly dodging the blow, Bai Luo grabbed her arm, disarmed her, and tossed her back onto the bed.
Collei quickly sat up and, without hesitation, tried to unleash the power of the god's remnants as her last resort.
But the whispers that constantly urged her to use this power were suddenly silent, and the strength she once wielded was no longer within her reach.
"Why... why can't I use it?" Collei asked in disbelief.
"Because that's just the remnants of a dead god, while I carry the aura of a living one," Bai Luo explained, throwing the new clothes to Collei.
So far, he was quite pleased with the girl.
Her vigilance and ruthlessness were impressive—each strike had been aimed directly at his throat, much more effective than the debt collectors he had trained in the past.
"And who exactly are you?" Collei asked cautiously, staring at Bai Luo without immediately putting on the clothes he had thrown at her.
