Genshin Impact: I'm just a mortal

Chapter 227: Chapter 226: A Restless Night

After parting ways with Kitsune Saiguu, Yu Xie went to the kitchen to prepare something to eat for himself. After finishing the meal, he returned to his room.

It was already late, and the silvery moonlight streamed into the room through the window, making the room appear exceptionally quiet.

Lying on the bed, Yu Xie began to ponder over the words Kitsune Saiguu had said earlier.

"What did she mean by, 'I'll come to your room later'?"

Late at night, a man and a woman alone in the same room—what could possibly happen?

Could it be that Kitsune Saiguu was planning to...

At that thought, his mind suddenly became a bit chaotic.

Suddenly, Yu Xie thought of Xianyun.

At that moment, a faint light flashed, and the mechanical crane that Xianyun had given him flew out, flapping its wings and hovering in front of him.

"Yu Xie, are you asleep?" Xianyun's voice came through.

"Not yet, I just lay down."

"How have you been lately? Met any more pretty girls?" Xianyun's tone seemed playful but also carried a hint of that "girlfriend's interrogation" vibe.

"Well… if I really have to say… let me count…"

"Alright, alright, no need to actually count." Xianyun sounded a bit amused and exasperated. "Is Shenhe adapting well in Inazuma?"

"Shenhe's doing well. It feels like she's gradually integrating into human society," Yu Xie replied.

"Is that so? That's good to hear," Xianyun said with relief. "But there's one more thing."

"What is it?"

"After spending so much time with you..." Xianyun hesitated, "Well, just... handle it carefully. You must not hurt Shenhe."

This left Yu Xie momentarily at a loss for words.

"That's all. I've always treated Shenhe like my own child, so you absolutely cannot harm her," Xianyun said, her tone quickening slightly. "Anyway, I'm off to meditate now. Goodnight."

Before Yu Xie could say anything, Xianyun had already ended the transmission spell.

She sat on the sofa in her room, rubbing her forehead helplessly, then gave a faint, wry smile.

On Yu Xie's side, the mechanical crane dissolved back into a faint light and disappeared.

The room returned to its tranquil state.

Outside the window, the moonlight was bright, and the night was serene.

Yu Xie got up from the bed and walked to the window, gazing outside in silence.

How many lifetimes had it been since he arrived in Teyvat? And how many connections had he made?

It felt as though all those past ties had converged in this lifetime, like countless threads of fate finally woven together into one.

Time passed slowly, and before long, it was already deep into the night.

Yu Xie remained by the window, with not a trace of sleepiness.

Just then, the sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway outside his room. The steps approached and then stopped at his door.

Yu Xie couldn't help but glance toward the door, feeling unexpectedly a bit nervous.

"Yu Xie, I can't sleep. Are you still awake?" A voice called out—it was Shenhe's, to his surprise.

"I'm still awake," Yu Xie replied, walking to the door and opening it.

Outside, Shenhe stood with her elegant posture, her graceful curves even more captivating in the dim, dreamlike glow of the night.

"Can I come in and chat with you?"

"Of course," Yu Xie answered without a second thought. Only after speaking did he remember that Kitsune Saiguu might come by later. If she saw him alone with Shenhe, who knew what kind of misunderstanding might arise...

But the words were already spoken, and there was no taking them back—this wasn't an online conversation, after all.

The two entered the room, and Shenhe slowly walked to the open window.

The moonlight fell upon her, accentuating her flawless figure, making her appear even more pristine and ethereal.

"Yu Xie, what do you think of Lady Kitsune Saiguu and Lady Rosalyne? And Raiden Shogun..." Shenhe's voice was soft, as if she was a little embarrassed to ask.

Hearing this question, Yu Xie froze for a brief moment.

Yu Xie silently asked himself the same question.

How did he truly feel about them?

Were they merely friends?

No, his heart told him otherwise. Even though he had no memories of his past, some things seemed etched deep within his soul—his connection with them was far more than just friendship.

Yu Xie hesitated, and just as he was about to speak, the sound of footsteps echoed once more from outside the door.

He turned to look at the door, and Shenhe glanced toward it as well.

A knock followed, accompanied by Rosalyne's voice.

"Yu Xie, are you still awake?"

Both Yu Xie and Shenhe were a little surprised—Yu Xie at the fact that it wasn't Kitsune Saiguu but Rosalyne who had come, and Shenhe at why Rosalyne would come as well.

Exchanging a brief glance with Shenhe, Yu Xie walked over and opened the door.

"Rosalyne, what brings you here so late?"

Rosalyne stood at the doorway and immediately noticed Shenhe inside the room. She paused, momentarily at a loss.

After a brief hesitation, she spoke softly, "Am I interrupting something?"

The familiar line made Yu Xie keenly aware of the subtle tension in the air.

"Lady Rosalyne, are you also here to chat with Yu Xie?" Shenhe asked.

"Yes," Rosalyne nodded. "I couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd come and chat with Yu Xie."

"Come in," Yu Xie said.

The three of them then sat around the table. Shenhe and Rosalyne remained somewhat silent, and Yu Xie wasn't sure where to start either.

In truth, Rosalyne wanted to ask if Yu Xie could accompany her to Mondstadt, but with Shenhe present, she couldn't quite bring herself to say it.

Similarly, there were things Shenhe only felt comfortable discussing with Yu Xie when they were alone.

The atmosphere grew a little awkward. Yu Xie scratched his head and smiled.

"Since none of us can sleep, why don't we find something to do?"

Shenhe and Rosalyne paused for a moment, then spoke in unison:

"What kind of thing?"

"How about... playing a card game?" Yu Xie suggested.

Rosalyne was silent for a moment, then awkwardly replied, "Maybe another time. I just remembered I have some things I still need to do. I'll head back now."

Without waiting for Yu Xie or Shenhe to respond, Rosalyne stood up and left the room.

Seeing this, Shenhe also stood up, preparing to leave.

"Yu Xie, I'll go back to rest as well."

Once again, Yu Xie was left alone. The room returned to its quiet state.

Yu Xie felt a little troubled. Responding to everyone's feelings wasn't an easy task.

He lay back down on the bed, thinking about what he should do moving forward.

But the heavens wouldn't let him rest.

Suddenly, a rustling sound came from outside the window.

On the windowsill, bathed in moonlight, stood a beautiful little silver-furred fox.
