Gardening Life With Plant Magic: Haku and the Spirits’ Botanical Garden

30: Enemy Attack

Since Riol’s departure, the house has become a bit quieter.

With only one of the three children left, it’s a little lonely.

I’ve been sticking close to the spirits these days.

Well, Michele is still here, so I sometimes play with him.

But Michele is busy with his studies, sword practice, and training as a butler, so I tend to hold back.

He’s receiving practical training under his father, Victor.

I’m like a butterfly flitting around the garden, playing while Michele is busy with his responsibilities.

Wait a minute, aren’t noble children usually busy with lessons and studies?

No, it must be my imagination.

Since then, I’ve been receiving letters from Lady Cecilia frequently.

For some reason, beautiful letter sets have also been sent.

Each time, a new one arrives.

I feel a strong pressure to write back.

Hmm.

So, I’ve been writing replies with Barton’s help.

“Yes, it’s very childlike and quite good,” he said, giving his approval.

Phew, what a relief.

Writing letters isn’t easy.

It’s hard to find topics to write about to a noble lady.

I’m accumulating high-class letter sets…

I might need to start extending the intervals between letters.

“Could you deliver this for me?” I asked.

“Understood. I will also deliver the radberries you ordered the other day along with this letter,” Barton replied, bowing and leaving.

Barton has been gradually transitioning work to Victor and has been spending more time with me.

He’s been focusing on business-related tasks while overseeing my studies.

Barton was the steward of the previous baron, and it was decided that Victor would serve my father.

When the time comes, Michele is expected to become Ren’s butler.

Good luck, Michele!

Writing to Lady Cecilia reminded me that I am also a member of the nobility.

I can’t remain a child forever…

In my previous life, it would have been okay to still be a snot-nosed kid…

Though I didn’t see many kids with runny noses, haha.

Oh, and the sale of radberries is going well again this year!

We’ve sold to noble families who bought them last year and to familiar merchants in small quantities.

The village has started producing radberries from last year’s runners.

The radberries grown in the village taste good but are a bit irregular in shape, so we’ve decided to sell them to merchants at a slightly lower grade.

With more experience, the quality and production will improve.

If it grows into a significant local industry, I’ll be happy too.

What I produce is sold to noble families, creating a nice distribution.

Millie, from the orphanage, has started attending village women’s meetings with Martha.

Selling is part of the job, after all.

Trying different things to find suitable work is good.

Thinking about the future, making connections with the village women was Martha’s idea.

I hadn’t thought of it.

Following that, Billy and Noel have also been given simple tasks besides farming.

Billy, despite being big, is a gentle kid who has shown interest in the rose garden and fruit trees, often helping me out.

Noel, though small and a bit clumsy, seems to like taking care of the horses and cleans the stables with Tom.

Having more skills is always better.

It’s best to enjoy your work!

Good luck!

In mid-June, Ren came back!

Huh? Isn’t that a bit early?

Last year, he returned in late June, right?

Still, he’s grown so much taller!

He’s gotten so big!

As soon as he returned, Ren hugged me tightly with a brief greeting.

I didn’t get squeezed until I passed out this year.

Ren has grown too!

“This year, I traveled on horseback and camped out along the way. It was good training.”

Ren’s fresh smile has become much more robust.

He’s already got the physique of a young man at fourteen in this world of tall people.

Just as we were enjoying our brotherly reunion, he showed up!

“Hey, little one! I heard you slept with Dad and Mom? Mom was super excited about it! Now she’s fussing over Riol!”

Kyle laughed as he patted my head.

Hey! Stop it!

Why is Kyle here?!

I puffed out my cheeks and slapped Kyle’s hand away.

“What? You wanna go?”

He smirked and poked my cheek.

What an annoying guy!

I headbutted Kyle’s stomach with all my might!

“Take that!”

At the same time, Guri and Poko snuck up from behind and kicked the back of Kyle’s knees!

Our secret move! Knee Buckle!

Kyle screamed, “Gah!” and collapsed.

Guri, Poko, and I danced in a circle to celebrate our victory!

Evil will be vanquished!

Ren watched us with a gentle smile.

Wait, can Ren see the spirits?

Since when?

Well, Ren is honest and pure, so it’s not surprising!

On the other hand, Kyle seems to have been officially designated as ‘my enemy’ by the spirits.

After this, Kyle started experiencing frequent supernatural occurrences.

I have five spirits with me.

Live in fear of invisible enemies.

Mwahaha…

Oh no!

I felt something dark cross my mind!

By the way, did you notice Kyle called them ‘Dad’ and ‘Mom’?

That alone gives you a sense of the power dynamics in the Ragnard family.

Is Lady Cecilia the strongest?

Should I wrap myself around her tightly?
