15: Magic Bag
Alright!
Since that’s decided, I’ll write a letter to Grandpa! My birthday is at the end of the month, so I’ll ask for a Magic Bag as a gift.
By the way, Magic Bags come from dungeons. Dungeons are classified into beginner, intermediate, advanced, and top-tier. Magic Bags can be found in treasure chests in any dungeon. The performance of a Magic Bag varies depending on the dungeon level, ranging from low to high quality.
In this world, Magic Bags are indeed rare items, but they’re not so scarce that they’re impossible to find. Even wealthy commoners can buy them if they work hard. Many merchants seem to own them. Occasionally, something called an Item Box appears, which takes the form of accessories like bracelets. These are rarely available on the market.
Grandpa’s Ragnard Frontier Territory has two top-tier dungeons. While I’m not interested in dungeons, I often hear stories about them. Or rather, I’m told about them. Are they heroic tales? Grandpa’s dungeons can only be entered by intermediate-level adventurers or higher. Even intermediate adventurers can only reach the upper floors, as the middle and lower floors are quite dangerous. Given that these are top-tier dungeons, high-level items often appear. A Magic Bag is one of those items.
Still, since they’re retrieved from dangerous dungeons at great risk, they’re not something a child should casually ask for. But… I think Grandpa would fetch one for me as if it were a walk in the park. He’s an incredibly dangerous person!
I asked a retainer who was heading to the Frontier Marquis house to deliver the letter. I also sent along some souvenirs, so I hope it goes well.
On my birthday at the end of May, Grandpa sent me a gift. It was the long-awaited Magic Bag! When I opened the box in the family lounge, Father and Riol looked over my shoulder. It was a simple shoulder bag, similar in design to commonly distributed bags. It looked worn, but the well-used leather felt smooth and comfortable in my hand.
“Fancy decorations would attract bad people. It’s better for it to look like an ordinary bag,” Father said. Wealthy people and high-ranking nobles prefer flashy items. I nodded in agreement with Father’s words.
The letter enclosed also said that it was a bag Grandpa had used a long time ago. It looked old-fashioned, but it could hold about as much as our entire mansion! And it had a time-stopping function!! Oh, Grandpa, you’re the best!
I held the bag up in both hands and stared at it intently. It’s an item that makes me realize I’m in another world. Having it in my hands now was truly moving! My eyes must have been sparkling.
Father watched me with a gentle smile. Riol, knowing my purpose, had no particular reaction. He’s such a cool-headed brother!
I nodded firmly and handed the Magic Bag to Father with a smile. “Father, please use this to sell fruits! It can hold a lot!”
Father looked surprised and asked, “What? Didn’t you ask for it to use yourself?”
Nope, Dad.
“It’s to sell Radberries in the Frontier Marquis territory. I also sent some to Grandpa as a gift, and I’m sure they’ll sell!”
“Radberries are our family’s treasure!” I declared. Riol, standing next to me, quietly nodded in agreement. Seeing us like that, Father seemed to understand and smiled wryly.
“I see, so that’s why there was an inquiry about Radberries from Lord Father-in-law.”
Yeah.
“Yes, just a few berries, neatly packed in a box by Martha and wrapped, then delivered by a retainer. I figured two days on horseback wouldn’t harm them.”
Yeah, that’s the point, isn’t it? They disappear in no time flat, clearly not enough, making you want more.
Hehehehe.
No doubt Radberries will captivate everyone! First, we need to make the wealthy Frontier Marquis’s house our regular!
“You’re quite the strategist.”
Riol smiled mysteriously.
Grandpa’s letter mentioned that he’d be going to Radcliffe Territory this year to coincide with Ren’s homecoming.
Oh, right, winter break at the academy is short, so Ren didn’t come home, but with a three-month summer break, maybe he can return.
“Um… Grandpa and Ren are coming around July.”
“Yeah, it’ll be lively when Ren returns.”
Father put me on his knee and stroked my hair.
Is it a privilege for little kids to be petted?
Oh, really? It warms your heart, huh?
Hehe.
“I have a Magic Bag too.”
Father whispered to me, sounding a bit sulky.
“Huh!?”
Apparently, Father tried his hand at dungeons when he was young and got a few.
The retainers have them too, and the Radcliffe family has quite a few as a legacy through the generations.
No loss having one, a Magic Bag!
By the way, both Ren and Riol also had them.
It seems you get one when you reach a certain age.
I was the only one who didn’t know.
“I got mine when I was eight,” Riol said with a cool smile.
Huh?! What the heck!
I was just celebrating all by myself!
Riol knew and kept quiet about it!
Fuming!
I got mad, turned around, clung tightly to Father, rubbed my head against his chest, and fully indulged in being spoiled.
Yes, I got a tight hug back and was thoroughly spoiled!
I love you, Dad!
I sneak a peek at Riol, who’s sipping tea with a cool expression.
When he noticed my gaze and glanced over, he snorted!
Geez, Riol!
But I don’t dislike Riol.
Actually, I like him a lot, you know?
So, don’t be too mean to him, okay?
Riol and I were patted on the head by Dad.
