Game of Thrones: Killing to the top

Chapter 9: Journey for three eggs

" One day you will rule as king, after all no man is eternal I shall meet my natural end in time, and when that time comes you shall become king ."

 Aegon Targaryen to ****************

As he moved he could not shake the feeling the was pulling him in, but as he traversed the rocky terrain he ignored it.

The faint sulfuric stench from the volcanic vents only added to the eerie atmosphere.

The golden dots on his blue map shimmered faintly as he approached the first location.

An enormous cave, he could imagine the beast that must have called it home, but he had no time for daydreaming as entered. He had no source of light as he travelled further in only able to to see about a foot in front of himself at any given time.

After about a three minute walk in Aegon finally reached the point were he was standing above the golden dot, and the system didn't need to tell him he already knew he needed to dig down.

Aegon unsheathed his sword as used it as a shovel, he dug a hole about a foot and a half wide then started digging downward, as the hole wasn't wide he was able to dig down about eight feet rather quickly before a flicker of dull red caught his eye.

Aegon dropped the sword and reached in and pulled out a dull red round object that craved marks on it that looked like scales.

(Ding!!! dragon egg found unable to currently bond with it as Targaryen blood has not undergone primary awakening.)

Aegon smiled, took the dormant egg and placed it in the arrow carrier that was on his back hidden away by his cloak.

Looking back at the map the remaining two eggs weren't to far away but, he needed to move more inland and from the looks of it climb a higher cliff to get to one and the other seemed to be at ground level or underground he couldn't really tell as the system map didn't go into that much detail.

The terrain grew uneven as he moved inland, the ground turning from loose gravel to jagged rock. His boots crunched softly with each step, and he remained vigilant, scanning for any signs of patrols or traps.

After an hour of careful progress, he found the cave entrance, partially concealed by a tangle of thorny bushes and moss-covered boulders. Aegon crouched low, using his dagger to carefully clear a path.

The air inside the cave was noticeably cooler, carrying with it the faint scent of damp stone and something faintly metallic.

As he stepped inside, the light from the entrance quickly faded, leaving him in near-total darkness. Left with no other choice he carried on carefully until eventually the cavern eventually opened into a wide chamber, its walls glistening with moisture.

In the center, lay a dull white egg. Aegon quickly made his way to it and placed it with the one he had already found.

With no other purpose for being there he quickly retracted his steps and returned to the surface.

The path to the final egg was far more challenging. Aegon stood at the base of the cliff, craning his neck to see the jagged rocks and narrow ledges that marked his ascent. The map confirmed that the egg was near the summit.

The climb began slowly, each handhold and foothold carefully tested before he shifted his weight.

The volcanic rock was sharp in places, cutting into his gloves and occasionally forcing him to adjust his grip.

The wind picked up the higher he climbed, whipping his cloak around and threatening to unbalance him.Halfway up, Aegon paused on a narrow ledge, his muscles burning from the effort. He glanced down briefly, the height enough to make even him uneasy. But the pull in his blood urged him onward, the connection growing stronger with each meter he climbed.

Finally, after what felt like hours, Aegon reached a small alcove. The entrance was partially obscured by a cluster of jagged rocks, and he had to squeeze through the narrow gap to reach the chamber inside.

A black egg sat in the center, its surface dark and smooth like polished obsidian. Crimson veins snaked across its shell. He approached cautiously, his breath steady despite the exertion of the climb. As he wrapped his hands around the egg, a heat surged through him as he put it away with the others.

Climbing down the cliff proved even more dangerous than the ascent. The weight of the eggs made his movements slower and more deliberate, and the wind seemed determined to knock him off balance. But Aegon's focus never wavered. Each step was precise, each grip secure, until he finally reached the base of the cliff.

As his boots touched solid ground once more, Aegon exhaled deeply, a sense of triumph washing over him. He now had all three eggs in his possession. As long as he wasn't a complete fool his goal would be accomplished.

With his prize secured, Aegon began making his way back toward his hidden cove where the merchant ship was waiting for him as he boarded and they set sail once again for Essos.

Aegon could feel the curiosity of the men on board even the captain, and he expected as much.

Afterall to pay him as much as Aegon was just to stay here for about an hour then set sail to Essos, the old merchant already knew Aegon must have gotten something more valuable than the money he paid him.

The thought alone stirred the greed in his heart and although his gut told him not to bother Aegon, his greed was growing by the hour.

Aegon felt the change in the captain and his men, and returned to his room.

He couldn't sail a ship otherwise these men would already be dead, but Aegon was prepared if they made a move he would kill most of them and then let the rest he left alive sail the ship to Essos then kill the rest.
