Chapter 534: I love you, Lan Xue

Bai Zhongqi felt that recently he was particularly fond of grabbing someone's head and then pushing them into the mud from a great height; although it didn't give him much pleasure, his ability to stretch his arms really long was very handy (Luffy and Mr. Fantastic nodded in agreement once again).

Bai Zhongqi couldn't figure out what was going on at the moment; it seemed that this girl was being chased by a large group of people behind her. Although he was unclear about the girl's position of good or evil, since this group came looking for trouble with great ferocity, Bai Zhongqi could only teach them a lesson.

The girl, Lan Xue, was almost bursting with joy; in such a godforsaken place as Wanbo Star, being pursued by the Wax Figure Mercenary Corps, and to actually encounter a Star Warrior—her luck was incredibly good.

Knowing that the uncle couldn't read, Lan Xue jumped in front of Bai Zhongqi and started gesturing and speaking; anyhow, the intention was to tell Bai Zhongqi that the people chasing her were the bad guys.

Who is bad and who is good, such matters could be discussed later. That's what Bai Zhongqi believed.

He gently opened his palm, and some insects that looked like mantises crawled on it; Bai Zhongqi just had to shake his arm, and the mantises in his palm took flight.

"So fast!" Lan Xue couldn't see clearly what Bai Zhongqi had released, only saw him shoot out bursts of green light from his hand, then those moved across the bodies of the people rushing over, slashing at their critical points.

"Ah! So painful!"

"What the hell is this?"

The interstellar mercenaries of the Wax Figure Mercenary Corps saw streaks of green light passing through; they couldn't stop them at all. The green light would leave a cut wherever it passed by—if it flew across the neck, that person's head would fall off.

Of course, this was one of Bai Zhongqi's Enslaved Beasts; Bai Zhongqi called it the Flying Knife Mantis Beast. Despite its small size, it was a very dangerous and powerful combat Enslaved Beast. These Enslaved Beasts could fly at supersonic speeds and even swing the two large blades on their forelimbs at that speed; the sharp blades could easily slice through alloy steel. Although the bodies of the Flying Knife Mantises were fragile and typically one shot could kill them, due to their agility they were hard to hit, making them very effective anti-infantry weapons in Bai Zhongqi's hands.

Just when all the members of the Wax Figure Mercenary Corps were about to be taken down, a big man from the Primate Clan, with a back like a tiger's and a waist like a bear's, shook his dirty braids and pressed a button on his belt. A transparent barrier instantly popped out around him. The Flying Knife Mantis went straight for the attack but was repelled as though it had hit a wall.

Lan Xue nearly drooled when she saw this scene, "A personal Energy Shield! Are the officers of the Wax Figure Mercenary Corps so wealthy?"

Bai Zhongqi couldn't understand what Lan Xue was saying, but he knew what that thing was.

The bear-like man's face was filled with tension; he had personally witnessed Bai Zhongqi smash his subordinates into the ground, and the attack weapon he had released seemed to be a kind of self-guided multi-target ammunition (in his own opinion). This level of equipment was not something average mercenaries and adventurers could have; it was at least the technology of Mid-level Civilizations close to High Level Civilization.

Moreover, this guy was a damn Star Warrior.

"Your Excellency, there's been a misunderstanding. We, the Wax Figure Mercenary Corps, were merely pursuing this stinking girl because she stole something that belongs to us; we have no intention of causing any conflict with Your Excellency. Are you from the Star Warrior Sect? Could you please let us off the hook?" the Mercenary Captain said very sincerely.

Bai Zhongqi stood there silently, not saying a word.

Instead, Lan Xue laughed coyly and, with her hands on her hips, shouted, "Te Yunlei, don't bother; this uncle doesn't understand the Jian Tribe language, so it's no use talking to him!"

The Mercenary Captain was also stunned; he couldn't believe there was someone who roamed about not understanding the Jian Tribe language. In this day and age, regardless of which planet you come from or what language you speak, if you're out making a living, at the very least you need to speak Jian Tribe language. That, or having a translation device, was another matter.

Lan Xue continued to gesticulate wildly in front of Bai Zhongqi, "Uncle, finish them off quickly; these people are all bad guys!"

It was unclear whether Bai Zhongqi understood or if he just wasn't interested in killing those people; instead, he made a rolling hand gesture indicating them to get lost.

The Mercenary Captain felt like he had been granted amnesty; he didn't care about Lan Xue stealing their stuff anymore and certainly didn't dare to leave any harsh words there—as he might provoke the man and end up beheaded.

Although he had a personal Energy Shield, its defensive power wasn't high, and apparently, the man was a very high-level Star Warrior who could easily crush him to death.

He pulled up his subordinates, who were still breathing, pushed their hoverbikes and flying vehicles, and quickly turned around to leave. In less than a minute, they had disappeared from Bai Zhongqi's sight.

After those people left, Lan Xue also quietly stepped back, seemingly preparing to flee as well.

"They say Star Warriors are fickle and frighteningly powerful. If this uncle intends to harm me, then I'm in real trouble."

Just as she took a couple of steps, Bai Zhongqi turned his head back, his clear eyes looking at her.

Somehow, the girl's appearance felt familiar and somewhat endearing to him.

"Do you speak Bupinga?"

The girl stood still as a flagpole, nodding quickly upon hearing Bai Zhongqi's question: "A little, just a little."

Bai Zhongqi was satisfied and asked, "What Star Sector is this, and in which Star Region, oh yes, and what year is it according to the council calendar?"

Praying in her heart that this uncle wasn't some goldfish-eyed pervert with a liking for lolitas, Lan Xue honestly answered, "This is the Valle Star Sector, the Nuo Yi Hua Star Region, and according to the council calendar, it is the 33rd Eternal Era, year 2483."

The council calendar is used by the Galactic High Governance Council. An Eternal Era is ten thousand years. For convenience, the council calendar doesn't use a year-counting method like 123456, but instead represents the Eternal Era with the base-ten system, followed by a four-digit year number. The Galactic High Governance Council even dedicated a planet as the standard for their calendar; the orbital year of that planet is one year in the council calendar.

Bai Zhongqi wasn't very familiar with the council calendar and asked again, "Do you know the Star Alliance calendar?"

Lan Xue initially thought this Star Warrior might be some reclusive oddball given his strange questions. But when Bai Zhongqi mentioned the Star Alliance, her face turned pale, and with a tinge of fear, she asked, "Are you from the Star Alliance's Stellar Transmission Academy?"

She asked this question in Chinese.

Bai Zhongqi heard a familiar term, furrowed his brows, and said, "No."

Looking at the girl who seemed to be very scared, he asked again, "Are you from the Star Alliance?"

Lan Xue, trying to guess the man's identity, knew how to speak to protect herself or seek out more benefits despite being pampered from a young age due to her extreme intelligence. Shaking her head, she said, "No, I was born on Sumer Star, in the Wilds of the Galaxy. But my mother was from the Star Alliance. Eighteen years ago, the Star Alliance erupted in civil unrest, claiming that the former Chancellor had suddenly vanished. His supporters engaged in a war of legitimacy with the new Chancellor of the Star Alliance. My father died in that war, while my mother took me and wandered to the Wilds of the Galaxy."

Bai Zhongqi let out a long sigh, "To think that on this unknown planet, I would encounter a compatriot. My situation is somewhat similar to your family's. I used to be a person of the Star Alliance, but now between me and the Star Alliance, there is a vendetta as deep as the sea."

Lan Xue's heart, which had been in her throat, sank back to her stomach. She immediately changed her demeanor, with heartfelt grief, she said, "Yes, uncle, we're compatriots! My mother also often told me the Star Alliance is no longer our home. Even though Xiao Yu keeps expanding the power of the Star Alliance, and now it has become a member of the committees in the Galactic High Governance Council, a force no one in the Galaxy dares provoke, we are at complete odds with the Star Alliance!"

As she spoke, she tried hard to squeeze out a few tears to express her sorrow and to resonate with Bai Zhongqi, hoping to enhance her relationship with the Star Warrior. But Bai Zhongqi maintained an indifferent demeanor, gazing at the planet's sky tinged with a faint rose hue and started to space out.

"It has already been eighteen years..." Bai Zhongqi thought.

A sense of oppression surrounded him. He longed to hold Zero, to find comfort in her tenderness for the discomfort he was feeling. The Star Alliance had become a behemoth within the Galaxy, yet the girl he yearned for had long since disappeared.

Lan Xue felt a bit uneasy, thinking to herself, "Does this uncle have a bit of a screw loose? It's said those Star Warriors are extremely unstable. Although I managed to get the Star Map from the wax figure guys, which can lead me to the trace of the Golden Great Sail Ship, as a little girl with poor abilities and lacking power, it's likely I won't succeed. Hmm, it's unacceptable to admit defeat. I, Lan Xue, aspire to be the preeminent interstellar tomb raider, oh no, the Tomb Raiding General of the Galaxy, unearthing countless treasures. How can I shrink back from difficulty? Although this uncle seems a bit off, he appears to be a good person with great strength. If I make use of his abilities, perhaps I can succeed."

Just as she was ready to cozy up to Bai Zhongqi once more, he suddenly shifted his gaze from the sky back to her. That look made Lan Xue feel a chill and she immediately stopped talking.

"Tell me more about the Star Alliance."

Lan Xue nodded vigorously, saying, "Sure, uncle. Since you saved me, I won't charge you for the information. Otherwise, according to the rates of the Wilds of the Galaxy, I'd have to charge you a hefty price. Actually, my mom and aunt hardly willing to talk to me about the Star Alliance. What I know is limited. The Wilds of the Galaxy are tens of thousands of light-years away from the Star Alliance. You are the first person from the Star Alliance I have ever met in my life. Oh, shoot, now you're no longer part of that despicable civilization."

Bai Zhongqi was amused by the cute, round-faced girl. She had the potential to be a chatterbox, talking away mostly to herself with a bit of mischief but it was clear that she had a kind heart.
