Chapter 53: Chapter 53: The Truth Behind the Incident
Wuma Yuhe was still consumed by her frenzied laughter, reveling in the success of her plan. However, the death of the white-robed curse spirit tempered her elation somewhat.
"Zhang Xingwen… That old man's power remains as formidable as ever."
"Why hasn't he died of old age yet?"
Wuma Yuhe suddenly turned to Bao Huijun with a manic gleam in her eyes, asking the question seriously.
Bao Huijun lowered his head, trembling with fear, muttering unintelligibly.
Annoyed, Wuma Yuhe raked her hands through her hair, trying to gather her scattered thoughts.
If Zhang Xingwen was the Third Seat who had gone missing, that meant the mountain city was not defenseless against the Exploiter. It had been under Zhang Xingwen's protection all along.
But then, how had she succeeded?
As she delved deeper into her thoughts, a surge of cold, chaotic emotions suddenly overwhelmed her mind.
"Ugh! So annoying!"
In a fit of rage, Wuma Yuhe grabbed a handful of her crimson hair and tore it from her scalp, bringing with it blood and skin.
Bao Huijun shuddered uncontrollably at the sight.
Buzz!
A dull, oppressive sound filled the air as a suffocating aura descended.
Wuma Yuhe's deranged movements froze as she looked up. A sharp-featured man floated silently before her, his gaze devoid of any killing intent. Yet the sheer pressure emanating from him was overwhelming.
Was this the true form of The Savior Wu Zhengyang?
Wuma Yuhe felt a pang of terror but maintained her mocking smile.
"Why are you so late? The Exploiter you've pinned all your hopes on is already in my cage."
Wu Zhengyang, unskilled at deceit or pleasantries, glanced at the portal behind her and smiled faintly.
"Is that so?"
"I'd say you're the one in his cage."
Wuma Yuhe stiffened. Wu Zhengyang never lied. If he said so, today's events must indeed have been orchestrated by those people.
But the Exploiter Tong Gu was undeniably sent to that world by her. Her forces had long infiltrated that world's power structures, from intelligence to political cores.
How could her enemies possibly challenge her forces there?
"Hmph, we'll see. I'll ensure everyone witnesses the grand downfall of the Exploiter."
Before she could finish, she felt a sudden tightness around her throat. Her face turned pale as Wu Zhengyang appeared before her, his hand clasping her neck.
What was happening?
As she tried to summon her curse energy, a destructive force exploded from her throat.
Under Bao Huijun's disbelieving gaze, Wuma Yuhe's body shattered in Wu Zhengyang's grasp.
"Leave Dongxia, Wuma Yuhe. Next time, you won't have time to prepare so many substitutes…"
Wu Zhengyang's voice reverberated across the space, reaching an indeterminate distance.
---
Tong Gu stared at the white card in his hand, momentarily in disbelief. The compensation for defeating such low-ranked enemies was unexpectedly high.
[Cursed Spirit: Twisted Child]
[White Rank, One-Star]
[Description: A child twisted and consumed by curses, filled with resentment.]
[Effect 1: Crush this card to receive a randomly chosen item, skill, or ability from the Twisted Child.]
[Effect 2: Use this card on yourself to temporarily transform into the Twisted Child, gaining its skills and abilities.]
He had only casually slain three minor cursed spirits, yet he received a loot card?
Tong Gu still wasn't certain which Jujutsu Kaisen event he had entered, but the exaggerated drop rate made him look forward to what lay ahead.
Gripping his feather-light Soul Blade, Tong Gu moved swiftly.
Thud thud thud…
The sound of running echoed. Tong Gu's eyes lit up as he shouted:
"Stop! No running in the school building!"
"Let the teacher punish you!"
His immense power surged as he activated Lv4 Basic Steps, becoming a blur as he dashed around the corridor's corner. Two low-ranked cursed spirits came into view.
Slash, slash.
With two swift strikes, the spirits were gone. Unfortunately, no drops appeared this time.
Tong Gu pierced the floor lightly with his blade, mapping the building's vibrations to his mind. The eerie footsteps of cursed spirits were music to his ears.
---
Okkotsu Yuta stood behind Zen'in Maki, fidgeting nervously. He still couldn't process his sudden transfer to this strange school, meeting peculiar classmates, and now being thrown into this situation.
What were cursed spirits?
And Rika… what was she?
Zen'in Maki, wielding her cursed spear, glanced back at the nervous transfer student, annoyed. But before she could scold him, Yuta cried out in alarm.
"Maki-san, look!"
Zen'in Maki, with her limited curse energy sensitivity, turned to see seven or eight small cursed spirits scurrying out of the school building's entrance.
There were so many, but their levels seemed low!
Raising her spear, Maki held her ground, mindful of the amateur behind her. To her surprise, the cursed spirits weren't approaching them; instead, they scattered as if fleeing something.
This anomaly quickly clued Maki in: there was something powerful inside that building.
"Follow me!" she commanded, dashing toward the building. Though confused, Yuta hurried after her.
---
Inside the school building, Tong Gu stared at a bizarre sight. The third, fourth, and fifth floors had been entirely blown out. A massive green cursed spirit stood amidst the wreckage, devouring corpses and smaller cursed spirits to grow larger.
In moments, its height exceeded ten meters.
"Hmm?"
Sensing Tong Gu, the cursed spirit bared its gaping maw, a ring of jagged teeth framing a pitch-black abyss.
Earth Breathing: Fourth Form – Ground Vein Dragon Roar
Boom!
The ground shattered as Tong Gu appeared beside the cursed spirit in an instant. His blade gleamed, carving a crescent arc.
Slash!
A deep gash appeared on the cursed spirit's neck, spraying purple blood.
"Ugh…"
Tong Gu frowned, realizing his blade hadn't cut deeply enough. The cursed spirit roared, lunging at him. Tong Gu dodged swiftly, but he noticed its body expanding further.
No, it wasn't his imagination—the cursed spirit was indeed growing larger.
With a grim expression, Tong Gu turned and bolted.
---
Zen'in Maki remained on high alert as she and Yuta searched the building. Despite scouring several floors, they hadn't found cursed spirits or survivors.
Thud thud thud…
A rapid series of footsteps echoed closer. Maki readied her spear, shielding Yuta.
A shadowy figure leaped from the corridor, evading her spear with astonishing agility. Running along the walls, the figure moved past her and toward Yuta.
Maki twisted to strike, but the figure already grabbed Yuta and darted toward her.
Crash!
The building's walls collapsed as Tong Gu burst through a window, dragging both Yuta and Maki to safety.
Landing lightly on the ground, he glanced at the bewildered pair.
He had finally pieced together the scenario: Jujutsu Kaisen 0—the prelude to a Pure Love War God's debut battle.
His priorities were clear now.
