After walking for two days, Aura finally brought Frieren back to her hometown.

How this elf got lost and ended up so far away was anyone's guess. It was fortunate she encountered Aura; otherwise, this naive elf might have been deceived by someone with ulterior motives and taken to who knows where.

What?

You said Aura was the one with the most ulterior motives.

Aura did not deny this either.

If it weren't for the obedience spell, she would probably be the first person to attack Frieren, and would definitely cut her into pieces, making sure that even the goddess herself would not be able to save this elf.

"Aura, give me some of that fruit."

Aura handed Frieren a fruit she was eating.

Even so, her willpower didn't determine her actions.

Being forced to be with your enemy and forced to protect her, is there anything more shameful than this?

"The freshly picked fruit is poisonous. Eat it, Aura!"

"..."

Please, be reasonable, Frieren!!!

Aura chewed the fruit, which had a slight paralyzing effect, into pieces. The rich juice and soft flesh filled her mouth and she swallowed it.

The body of a demon is much stronger than that of a human, including a higher resistance to toxins. Therefore, when there are not enough fruits to fill their stomachs, Aura will deal with the slightly poisonous ones.

The days with Frieren were very difficult, mainly due to the mental pressure. Aura had to constantly restrain the urge to hit Frieren's head with a killing spell every time she saw her face. The conflict between her desire for revenge and her rational survival instinct left Aura utterly drained.

"But fortunately, these days are about to end."

Aura looked up and saw the elven village nestled in the forest not far ahead. She could feel the presence of elves within, though most showed no signs of practicing magic. It seemed that even among elves, a magic prodigy like Frieren was extremely rare.

This gave Aura some relief.

In that case, there was still hope for the demons.

"We'll part ways here, Frieren."

Aura put Frieren down. The white-haired elf's bare feet touched the ground, her injured ankle having healed enough to walk.

"Aren't you coming in with me, Aura?"

"I'd better not. It would cause trouble."

"Why?"

"Because I'm a demon."

"But aren't you a good demon?"

"Not all elves would believe that."

'I wish all elves were as stupid as Frieren, believing in nonsense like there are good demons in the world.'

——This is what Aura really thinks.

There was another reason.

"Can you see that?"

Aura pointed to a towering beam of light about ten kilometers away from the elven village.

"I can see it. That's the pillar of magic power that is leaking, right? So far, I've only seen you, Aura, who can't let even a little bit of magic power escape."

"...Do you know who that magic pillar belongs to?"

"A human named Flamme. What's wrong? She had been to the village before I got lost. She was very kind and not a bad person."

"..."

Aura thought she recognized the familiar aura from that magic pillar. So it was Flamme.

'But... but... when she last met Flamme, she was just a clueless village girl. How come in just one month, her magic power has become so powerful?!'

'Even if Flamme was the most talented human in magic in a thousand years, recognized as the progenitor of human magic, she couldn't have progressed so quickly without a good teacher, right?! Are humans learning that good these days?'

'Wait... Flamme's teacher—'

'Wasn't it Serie, the mythical-era mage?'

Aura's pupils shrank. She recalled a related rumor from ancient human texts she had read long ago.

'Serie did go out a few times this month... said she found some good materials...'

'Could she have met Flamme then?!'

'No wonder Flamme progressed so quickly.' Fortunately, Aura remembered Serie's outings; otherwise, Aura would have thought that it was his accidental teaching that made Flamme grow into what he is now.

'How was that possible?' What she taught was human magic knowledge that was 500 years behind the times - it was the dregs of the dregs. Any human mage of her time who taught this knowledge to their disciples would be criticized for misleading their students and would only delay a mage's growth.

So, Demon King-sama, this human's growth has nothing to do with Aura. In fact, it's Aura's limitations that prevented Flamme from becoming stronger. Aura did contribute to the demon's cause!

"Hehe—"

Aura wanted to laugh at the thought of Serie's reaction upon discovering such a talented student's potential hindered by outdated magic knowledge. Serie, that old woman's expression must have been priceless.

But what Aura didn't know was that the magic knowledge she considered 500 years outdated was actually magic knowledge 500 years from now on.

"Aura, that human's magic pillar is coming towards us."

"Eh!"

"You have no grudge against her, right?"

"Originally there was none."

Aura looked up at the majestic magic pillar approaching, then turned back and looked at the dark magic light pillar mixed with demon characteristics that emanated from the white haired elf, and sweat broke out on her forehead.

But now, there was.
