Chapter 38: Chapter 39: The Fall of Thorkell
The Tide Turns
The battle between Thorkell and Blackbeard had reached its peak. The sky was dark, and the air crackled with the sheer power emanating from both combatants. The earth beneath them shook as if it too was struggling to keep up with the intensity of their clash. Blackbeard, the man who had taken down Whitebeard, was no ordinary foe. Every blow he struck carried the weight of his stolen power—the ability to control the very darkness itself with the Yami Yami no Mi, combined with the cataclysmic destruction of the Gura Gura no Mi.
Thorkell, despite his raw power and the flame of vengeance burning in his heart, was beginning to tire. His body was battered, his strength waning. The toll of using both the Gura Gura no Mi and his Conqueror's Haki at such high intensity was catching up with him. But the rage, the sorrow, the need for justice, kept him standing.
"You can't win, boy," Blackbeard sneered, a grin forming on his face as he readied his next attack. "You're nothing but a shadow of your old man."
Thorkell's eyes burned with defiance, his spirit refusing to bow, even in the face of overwhelming odds. With a roar, he launched himself toward Blackbeard, fists clenched in a final act of desperation.
But Blackbeard, with his near-godlike power, reacted faster. He grinned darkly as the Yami Yami no Mi swallowed the very air around Thorkell. A black hole opened in front of him, consuming everything in its path, even light. Thorkell's body was pulled into the abyss, his limbs flailing as he tried to escape the crushing force.
"No matter how hard you try, you'll never surpass me!" Blackbeard's voice echoed through the emptiness.
The Gura Gura no Mi sent out an enormous shockwave, forcing Thorkell into the ground, slamming him with a force that cracked the earth. Thorkell's body went limp, the sound of his bones breaking drowned out by the roar of the collision.
Thorkell's Fall
For a moment, everything went silent. The waves crashed against the shore, and the wind howled through the wreckage. Thorkell was motionless on the ground, his body battered, bruised, and clearly broken. The Luna Pirates watched in horror from the sidelines, unable to intervene in time.
"No..." Enel muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. The storm clouds above began to churn, mirroring the chaos of their emotions.
Ace and Sabo, their faces filled with disbelief, rushed toward their brother's fallen form. But before they could reach him, a cruel, mocking laugh pierced the air.
"Isn't this just tragic?" Blackbeard taunted, his laughter echoing across the battlefield. "The boy who thought he could take my place... The boy who wanted to live up to his old man's legacy. But in the end, he's just another failure."
Thorkell's Last Stand
Luffy, furious beyond words, clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white. He stepped forward, but Thorfinn, his older brother, held him back. The look in his eyes was one of sorrow and resignation, the weight of knowing that Thorkell's fate had already been sealed.
"Luffy, don't," Thorfinn said quietly, his voice heavy with emotion. "Thorkell made his choice. This is his fight, not ours."
"But he's your brother!" Luffy shouted, his voice filled with frustration.
"He's more than just my brother. He's our captain, and he made sure we'd be safe no matter the cost. Now it's our turn to honor his decision." Thorfinn's voice cracked slightly as he spoke, a tear slipping down his cheek. "We can't save him now, but we can make sure his legacy lives on."
The Coma
Thorkell remained unconscious, his body battered and broken beyond recognition. His breathing was shallow, his body a lifeless shell. The Luna Pirates gathered around him, their faces somber, knowing that their captain was no longer the powerhouse they once knew.
Kaku, usually stoic and calm, couldn't hide the distress in his eyes. "He's not going to wake up, is he?"
Thorfinn knelt beside his fallen brother, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Not anytime soon. But Thorkell has always been strong. If there's any chance for him to come back, it's in his will."
Luffy clenched his fists, determined not to let their captain fall into oblivion. "We're not going to let him die! We'll do whatever it takes!"
"You have to let him rest now," Ace whispered, stepping up beside Thorfinn. "He's given everything he had. His fight is over for now."
A Shift in the Air
The island around them began to tremble, the very foundations of Wano shaking from the impact of the battle. In the distance, Kaido's forces began to stir once more. The sound of Big Mom's laugh echoed from across the battlefield, signaling the approaching chaos of a new battle. The world would not stop for them, no matter how badly they needed to regroup.
Thorkell's defeat left a void in the crew, one that would be hard to fill. But in his absence, Thorfinn stepped forward, taking the mantle of leadership.
"We'll fight," Thorfinn declared, his voice steady but filled with resolve. "We'll avenge Thorkell. We'll show the world that the Luna Pirates are not done yet."
The Luna Pirates gathered around their new captain, their resolve hardening. They would fight for Thorkell's dream, for their fallen leader, and for the legacy he had left behind.
A Rising Storm
As the sun dipped below the horizon, a dark cloud loomed over Wano, signaling the arrival of more enemies. Blackbeard may have claimed victory over Thorkell, but the war was far from over. With Luffy, Ace, and Sabo now ready to take their place beside Thorfinn, the true battle for Wano—and the future of the Luna Pirates—was about to begin.
The world would soon know the name Thorkell—not as a fallen hero, but as the symbol of what it truly meant to be a pirate.
