Fortune’s Favor

Chapter 7: Chapter 7

For all that U.A. was touted to be, it was still a school, which meant one thing; uniforms. It wasn't the most impressive thing but that was understandable. They're uniforms, not battle suits.

It still didn't take away from the school's appeal. The acceptance rate of its heroics course is less than one in three hundred per year, or so people kept saying.

Looking at the giant building, I couldn't help the bundle of nerves inside me. This would be the first step.

At that moment, somebody ran past me, presumably in a hurry to get to class. I didn't expect it to be the broccoli kid from the exam. It's hard to believe he passed when he was so skittish that day.

I couldn't help but wonder what his quirk was.

Trailing behind, it's clear that we're to be in the same class from the large door he stopped at which had '1-A' labeled on it.

I know they're big on inclusivity but this was slowly getting ridiculous. The door was huge even from where I stood.

Despite me getting closer to the door, broccoli's murmuring didn't get any more legible.

"Excuse me. You're blocking the way." I called out, getting his attention.

That seemed to snap him out of whatever he was mumbling about, his face quickly turning embarrassed as he moved away from the door.

"S-sorry about that!" He almost screamed.

"It's fine." I said, with a wince for my eardrums as I pushed the door open.

My eyes quickly settled on two people who were arguing at the top of their voices, one seated and one standing. I recognize the latter from the exams, he was the one who made a scene about the fourth 'villain'.

My entrance ended whatever argument they seemed to be having as they turned to me.

Apparently, I'm not as enthusiastic as the rest of my classmates, considering that the class is almost filled up already.

"Good morning!" The stiff guy said, marching towards me. "I am from Somei Private Academy. My name is Tenya Iida!"

He's like a robot, stretching his hand out.

"Asahi Kaneko, it's nice to meet you." I greeted, taking the outstretched hand.

He paused, his expression shifting to surprise for a moment. "You're the-"

"You're the bastard who scored the highest in the exam?!" A violent voice screeched from the side.

The source was the blond boy that Iida was arguing with. Now, he looked almost animalistic, glaring at me as he shot off his chair. His attitude caught me off guard but it doesn't take me long to figure out the kind of person he is.

Arrogant, self absorbed, the kind who pick on others to feel better about themselves. It appears they're everywhere I go.

"What about it?" I shot back, not backing down. I've had my fair of bullies over the years and I'm not going to let anyone push me around.

He stopped in front of me, seething and apparently taking offense to the fact that I scored higher than he did. I don't even know who he is.

"You're nothing special, just another one bit side character! I'm the real number one here!" He declared, just as violently as he screeched before.

A glare settled in my eyes as I gave the best condescending look I could muster. "Yet here you are. It sucks, doesn't it?"

That only incensed his anger. Apparently I struck a nerve as he literally growled. Before it could escalade any further, a lazy voice cut through the air.

"Go somewhere else if you want to keep screaming."

My head snapped to the door. The green haired boy still stood there, along with a girl who was most likely another classmate but that wasn't what got my attention.

It was the zipped yellow sleeping bag that lay just outside the class. Inside it was a man who looked tired and borderline homeless.

"This is the hero course." The man continued, pulling out a sort of juice box or something and emptying it immediately. "It took eight seconds before you were quiet. Time is limited. You kids aren't rational enough."

As he stood to his feet and slipped out of the sleeping bag, I couldn't help but narrow my eyes. He looked familiar. The teachers here are all pro heroes but I don't recall anyone looking this tired and unkempt.

"A teacher?" Broccoli kid muttered, echoing what was going through everyone's head.

"I'm your home room teacher, Shota Aizawa." The man continued in the same lazy tone, sending a ripple of shock through the entire class, me included.

"It's kind of sudden, but put these on and go out to the field." He added, digging out blue tracksuits from inside his sleeping bag.

I question how hygienic that was if they were in the same bag he was sleeping in. Slowly but steadily, we all filed out of the classroom, taking a tracksuit from Aizawa on our way out.

When it reached my turn to get one, it finally struck me. The weird scarf that I thought was just an odd fashion choice, the all black outfit and the long hair. The Erasure Hero: Eraser Head.

Unlike most heroes, he doesn't really do interviews and avoids the spotlight so he's not as widely known as All Might or Endeavor.

Hell, the only reason I recognize him is because he was among the heroes I came across during my search on how to better utilize my quirk.

What a coincidence.

-[Aizawa]-

He could already feel the headache coming on. It was only the first day and the two top scorers were already at each other's throats.

He remembered going through their high school files. Their respective schools described them as model students but he was starting to doubt that. It wasn't uncommon for institutions to omit information like this.

After all, if the person in question did very well in the heroics business, it would be a plus to their reputation. Assuming they got passed today, he'd have to make further inquiry.

He was an underground hero so it was normal that people didn't recognize him so it was surprising when as he handed a tracksuit to Asahi, he saw the boy's eyes light up in recognition.

Great, a fanboy. As if there weren't enough problems already.
