Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Though I have ultimately chosen to face the giant Grimm, that doesn't mean I'll be reckless about it. I need the proper tools to be able to take it down in one shot or three shots at most. If that doesn't work then I'm screwed.
To that end, I made what I believe to be one of my most important tools so far. Grimm are creatures of the dark and it's only natural that they were weak to all that is holy or at least light.
Watching from a corner as a beowolf creeps through the street, I level a wand shaped piece of wood at it.
With my hoodie obscuring me from its metaphysical and physical senses, it wasn't prepared for the beam of light that shot out of the wand, crashing into it.
It barely survived a second. It didn't just die, it downright evaporated into black ash!
I couldn't help the smile on my face. Ruby and her mother may have silver eyes but I now have a wand that works a lot better. My acquired skill in carpentry allowed me to whittle a piece of wood into a Harry Potter style wand using the knife I looted.
Maybe it was the geek in me but the feeling of having a smoothly crafted wand that actually worked in my hand was wonderful. Especially when I'm the one who crafted it.
I enhanced the wood as much as possible to be able to handle multiple powerful enchantments. At the moment, the wand had the ability to emit and control light energy as well as shoot lightning, fire and project a shield.
With my growing repertoire of tools, I'm slowly growing into something resembling competence. That was to be expected when I'd been in mountain Glenn for what I suspected to be a bit over two weeks.
The white fang were still looking for me but they had reduced in number due to the conflict with the Grimm. I kept up my occasional clashes with them, leaving the bodies for them to find to reassure them that I was still around and keep them agitated.
That in turn would cause them to continue attracting Grimm to themselves. That worked in thinning the herd but Torchwick had yet to show his face.
I have a collection of scrolls in my hammer space and with those I was able to find a few things, the first being that they used broadcast messages to keep in contact which allowed me to stay ahead of them.
Another thing I discovered was the number of white fang hideouts in Vale and Mistral. These guys should really be more careful with how they keep their stuff, it could fall into the wrong hands.
Ducking back into the corner, I avoided a duo that came by.
"I thought I heard something over here." One of them muttered.
"You're seeing things." The other one said, waving it off.
"Are you sure? What about that light we saw a moment ago?" The first one tried to argue.
"I didn't see any light. You're just tense after everything that's going on." The second one argued, dismissive.
As they passed me, I pointed the wand at the on the left, a bolt of lightning shooting from the tip and into him, leaving him singed and twitching on the floor.
"What?!" The other faunus exclaimed, spinning on his heels in search of his assailant. I flicked the wand once more, a concentrated stream of flames bursting forth.
"Ahhhh!" He screamed in pain, severely burnt from the attack. His clothes didn't offer any protection, already gone to the flames.
Pull out my enchanted gun from my pocket space, I end their sufferings with a carefully aimed bullet.
If I wanted to be able to face that Grimm, I needed to get acclimated to using the wand, which is what I've been doing for the past few days.
I'd also added another enchantment on the guns making the bullets anti-grimm bullets. They still did the same damage to people but it was even deadly to grimm.
Taking the usual loot, I slipped away once more.
-[Torchwick]-
Screw Cinder. The damn lady had him hunting a ghost for days. Left to him, he would have hightailed out of here a long time ago. The only reason he hadn't done so yet was because she could burn him alive.
Sure he had Neo with him but he didn't plan on risking his little psychopath, not yet at least.
The damn animals hadn't found anything and whoever they were hunting had killed more of them. Then there were the more incompetent ones who already died to the Grimm.
'This is all a waste of time.' He thought in frustration.
He didn't particularly care about the animals but with each day more of them were dying and with each death, their morale got lower. Some of them were considering getting out of this place. If that happened, it would be on his head.
And he very much liked his head. Screw Cinder!
-[Adam Taurus]-
What was that human doing with his men?
He'd gotten reports from several of them about what was going on in Mount Glenn. The original objective was put on hold and faunus were dying, either to Grimm or to the mysterious person who lurked the mountain.
Nobody had even caught sight of them, only the bodies. He'd wager that they were human. Only humans would treat faunus with such brutality.
Once again, his people were being hunted like animals while Cinder and that thief sat back on their hands doing nothing.
Fucking humans, he'd teach them a lesson once their deal was done but first, he had to find this 'ghost' hunting his men and put an end to them.
They'd done enough damage to his cause.
-[Corvus]-
I'm really starting to miss the taste of food. Despite the fact that I don't need it while wearing the ring, that didn't stop me from wanting to savor the taste.
With the fact that I'm in a different reality, I'm even more curious about the taste of their cuisines. I'll definitely try some when I get out of here.
Pushing those thoughts to the back of my head, I continued my hike. With all my tools ready, I journeyed up the mountain. Knowing that the ancient Grimm laid at the top of the mountain didn't make getting there any easier.
I'd have wasted time climbing the many peaks around had I not enchanted one of the white fang masks in my collection with X-ray vision.
Suddenly seeing a giant dragon creature of darkness asleep at the top with my own eyes was a humbling experience. I could still feel fear, that was good. Fear keeps me alive.
After what felt like hours, I finally made it to the top only to run into a slight problem; there is no entryway around. The wyvern is inside the mountain.
A minor issue but one that made me facepalm at my forgetfulness.
This leaves me with only one choice, a very loud choice. Jumping into the air, my feet find solid air to balance. Repeating that a few times, I now stood meters in the air above the mountaintop.
Taking a deep breath, I held my wand in one hand and my gun in the other. Leveling it at the earth where the wyvern lay underneath, I feel the wand thrum with power in my grasp before releasing a powerful streak of lightning through the air.
The impact was loud but so was the roar that came after. I froze for a moment as the ancient Grimm awakened with a roar as its surface cover was broken.
I see small bits of lightning arcing around its body, meaning that it at least felt that. The movement it made to spread its wings snapped me out of my frozen state.
I can't let it get away.
I ran through the air towards it, flicking my wand again, a beam of light firing into one of its wings, eliciting a shriek of pain. Ignoring that, I peppered its body with bullets which, from its reaction, clearly stung quite a bit.
Unable to fly with one damaged wing, it did the next best thing. It thrashed around, swinging its undamaged wing in an arc, blowing bits of the mountain away.
Though it's unable to see me, it's smart enough to blow the debris in my direction. Jumping out of the way of one, I swung my wand in an arc in front of me, a spectral shield appearing to block another large piece of rock.
I continued my assault, this time firing another beam of light at its remaining wing while keeping its already damaged one under siege from my hail of bullets.
The bullets tore through the wing membranes with ease, further disabling it while the beam of light did away with its other wing.
I keep moving to keep it from accurately discerning my location. Getting close enough, I was now able to aim for its legs, four compressed arcs of light making short work of them.
With it now thoroughly grounded, I'm able to go in for the last stretch. A flick of the wand sent an arc of lightning into its head, stunning it for a moment.
It tried to retaliate with its tail but with its disorientation and inability to see where I am, it was a fruitless effort. Though, it did buy me time to gather a compressed ball of light at the top of the wand.
Thrumming with power in my hand, the wand continued to funnel more energy into the hall of light, causing it to increase in size. The creature seemed to sense the threat and attempted to attack with its tail but it was a second too late as the ball of light shot from the wand with blinding speed and the sound of a cannon being fired.
I just barely put up my shield in time as the ball of light hit the wyvern, bursting into an explosion of light that engulfed the entire mountain top.
-[Ruby]-
Finally, after being inside the Bullhead for so long, she was more than ready to get down. She and her team were shadowing professional huntsmen on a mission and luckily for them, they found a mission in the area they wanted to investigate.
Though the fact that the huntsman was Doctor Oobleck stunned them, it didn't change the fact that they would finally be able to follow the lead they'd been sitting on
Ozpin didn't look too happy to allow them take this mission but that motivated her to make sure they succeeded.
"Hey, what's that?" Yang, her half sister, asked, pointing down at mountain Glenn as they approached.
"Professor Oobleck, didn't you say this place was abandoned?" Weiss asked, barely getting her question out before the man was in her face.
"That's Doctor Oobleck, Miss Schnee and yes. Mountain Glenn is indeed abandoned and has been for many years due to being overrun by the creatures of Grimm!" The green haired professor said, rushing out his words as fast as always.
"So you're saying those aren't people down there?" Yang asked as Ruby finally saw it.
The previously thought abandoned city had people roaming it, a lot of people. Looking closer, they noticed one particular detail.
"They're White Fang." Blake, their resident cat faunus, said, solemnly.
Their bullhead was already close enough to see their outfits as well as the symbol on the back of their clothes.
"Oh dear, this is unexpected. It appears this will be a lot more difficult than I initially expected. I hope you're all ready." Doctor Oobleck said in the most serious tone they'd ever heard from him.
The Faunus below were moving in their direction, armed.
"Come on, these guys will be a piece of cake!" Ruby exclaimed confidently, getting a look from Weiss.
"Way to sound humble." The heiress huffed, hand on her rapier.
Team RWBY, and Doctor Oobleck, got their weapons out, hopping out of the aerial vehicle when they got close.
Their landing was met with a number of white fang members rushing towards them. Before either group could make contact with the other, the city around them shook, causing them to stumble.
In the distance, a white light exploded at the top of the mountain, bright enough to cause them to look away.
What is that?!
Judging from the look on her team's face, they had the same question on their minds.
-[Corvus]-
I regained consciousness on the body of the mountain, me on my back and my wand a few feet from me. Scrambling to my feet, I snatched it up, seeing small cracks along its length.
Sighing, I fall back to the earth. With how much power it outputted, I'm surprised it didn't shatter altogether. I could feel it still being functional so that's a good thing.
It only took a moment to patch up with my wand using the mending wand I made upon my arrival on mountain Glenn. These pieces of wood are very old so it's no wonder it can't handle that much power.
I recalled what happened before I got knocked out, I destroyed the Grimm but the shockwave got to me. It would have been worse if not for my shield.
Once again, I find myself imagining how much EXP I would have gotten if I was a gamer. Lucky me, I'm a discount hogwarts student.
I don't know how much time passed while I was unconscious but people should be on their way here to inspect what happened since the aftermath of our battle was quite visible.
Making my way down to the foot of the mountain, I notice a Nevermore flying above only to let out a shriek as they dissipated to dust.
That was…interesting. Come to think of it, I don't see any Grimm nearby. I could see very few of them in the distance but the ones that I had snuck past to get up here were gone, all of them.
A thought struck me. Could it be possible that the amount of light energy that I harnessed to kill the Wyvern was now contaminating the environment, like radiation after a nuke.
That would explain why the Nevermore died, why the grimm around the mountain were gone and why I can stand here without being affected. Even the Goliaths that roamed the borders were eradicated by it.
With that, I came to a conclusion; I'm awesome.
Soon after that conclusion was made, I paused, hearing the sounds of fighting in the distance. I would make my way there but I'm honestly too tired for that right now.
Stashing the white fang mask in my pocket space, I made my way through the empty streets I'd grown familiar with.
Despite my initial decision, I find myself moving towards the source of the fighting, if only to see what was going on. The Grimm around here should be dead so who could the white fang be fighting?
Turning the corner, I froze as I came to the scene of four girls in different color schemes facing off a horde of white fang goons. They're outnumbered. A green haired man stood in front of them, a grimace on his face.
Scenes flashed in my head as I recognized the new arrivals. Team RWBY and professor…no, Doctor Oobleck.
Shit.
