Chapter 763 - 763 Dream_1
Chapter 763: Chapter 763 Dream_1
Purple Summers remembered an incident from the past. Not long after her rebirth, she had learned from Zack Wallace’s lips that the Howard Family had a great-uncle who infuriated Alexander Summers. Alexander had wiped out the man’s whole family, sparing only a baby in swaddling clothes.
Thinking back now, that family was probably what they called the second great-uncle…
…
Alexander led Purple Summers out of the torture chamber, the two of them not speaking a word along the way.
While getting into the car, Alexander received a call from Atra Blanc.
Atra asked if Alexander had found his sister. He replied that he had, comforting his mother by saying that Purple Summers was out shopping with classmates and her phone had died, which was why she couldn’t call, and they were now preparing to head home.
Sitting silently in the car, Purple listened to Alexander spout lies effortlessly and suddenly envied Atra greatly.
Alexander had woven a beautiful dream for Atra, where her son was dutiful and ordinary, devoid of schemes and slaughter, and the family merely lived a regular life, passing days in the most mundane, yet most tranquil and peaceful way.
Would it be blissful to live in a dream for a lifetime?
Purple didn’t wish to ponder too deeply; even the most idyllic dream was just that—a dream… The more wonderful the dream, the more desolate the waking reality felt.
Alexander hung up the call and got back into the car.
He didn’t rush to start the engine. The day’s events had left him feeling irritated. He subconsciously reached into his pocket to smoke but found it empty, remembering his promise to Purple to quit smoking, and thus he dropped the matter, with his fingers unintentionally tapping on the steering wheel.
“Damian Howard has saved me many times, and he ended up in a vegetative state because of me,” Alexander broke the silence, speaking softly, “I have a friend in business with the last name Jia, whom you might have heard mentioned by Zack Wallace. He is fascinated by metaphysics and likes to associate with eminent monks and mages. When he learned that Damian had fallen into a deep coma, he introduced me to Mr. Ghost Hayes.”
He laughed at himself, “I never believed in these things before. After some investigation, I discovered that Mr. Ghost Hayes indeed had some ability, and this man was extremely greedy for money. As long as he was paid well, he would perform any ritual, no matter how forbidden or secret.”
Purple asked, “Did you seek out Mr. Ghost Hayes to awaken Damian from his vegetative state?”
“In medical terms, a vegetative state is a deep coma, but according to their understanding, it’s a state of soul departure,” Alexander said indifferently, “The soul leaves the body, which is why the person can’t wake up. Mr. Ghost Hayes has a resurrection technique that can return a person’s soul back to their body. It’s a forbidden ritual, very risky, and requires difficult-to-obtain materials. Even with the Howard Family’s wealth and power, it took a long time to gather the things Mr. Ghost Hayes needed.”
He paused, then continued, “But I hesitated. Although Damian was in a deep coma, there was still a chance he could wake up. However, if we conducted the resurrection ritual and it failed, damaging his soul, Damian would never wake up again.”
Purple nodded numbly, understanding.
Initially, Alexander sought the mage to save Damian, but while he was in doubt, she had been pushed into the river by the assassin arranged by the second great-uncle and lost her life.
Alexander then used all the preparations he had made on her. But her body had already decayed, and Mr. Ghost Hayes asked Alexander to find a suitable replacement. That’s when the files on those young women in the basement came into play…
Everything made sense now.
“Why did I become Purple Summers?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” Alexander said softly, “The ritual failed, Mr. Ghost Hayes ran away. When I discovered you had become Purple Summers, I was just as surprised.”
He glanced at Purple and said, “Given how eerie the whole thing is, the reason I kept those things in the basement was in case we found Mr. Ghost Hayes in the future; perhaps they might come in handy.”
“…Come in handy?” Purple looked at him blankly, “You mean to say…”
