Forget Vivian

Chapter 1.1 - Prologue

Forget Vivian Prologue Letter

Vivian stared down at her fingertips for a moment before she raised her head up.

She flinched a little when the bright light that flowed from the chandelier glimmered against the man’s face who sat across her on the table.

After her attention was drawn to her companion by the flickering lights, she couldn’t help but notice how his shoulders were broad and well-proportioned to his body. She let out a resigned sigh, after all, she shouldn’t act so surprised when all the young girls in the capital have sung praises about his good physique for a long time.

Admittedly, it wasn’t just his body that captured everyone’s attention.

His purple orbs that seemed to be swimming in the rain, as well as his unique hair color that resembled the hue of water on a painted canvas which perfectly fell and framed his face, were also quite noteworthy.

Still, more than his looks, the innate charisma that soaked the air around him and borne from his noble status, made him appear more otherworldly.

Vivian’s gaze continued to fixate on him as the latter cut his steak in natural finesse. When that was done, he pushed his plate in front of her, and captured her eyes with his.

It seemed as though his purple irises were trying to find out why she wore an unreadable expression on her face that evening, “Eat. I haven’t seen you eat well these days.” He told her.

As if snapping out of a reverie, Vivian averted her gaze back at the plate in front of her and stared at all the neatly cut pieces of meat which were still untouched. It was just like him to do everything elegantly, so perfectly, even with menial things such as this.

Again, she shouldn’t be surprised. After all, he was a man who could not afford anything to go wrong. He always needed to have control over situations, he hated being side tracked. He demanded order and perfectly laid out plans. He never does things half-heartedly.

Yes, she knew that well, and because she knew him, she also knows that right now, he was trying to find out what was amiss with her. She wonders if he could sense that she was trying to do something he didn’t like, something that wasn’t part of his plans and is out of his control.

“I’m not hungry.” Vivian stated.

This time, the man who was slicing his steak, raised his eyebrows at her, “What is it? You don’t like the food?”

“It’s not that, Samuel.”

Just saying his name flooded her with so many emotions.

The man’s name was Samuel, Samuel Rubentas.

He was the man who just became the Emperor of Rubentas Empire that day after he had overtaken many of his half-brothers in the succession line and rose to occupy the much coveted position.

He was also her husband.

Thanks to the festivities of earlier that day, the man’s mood was a little more excited than usual. Besides, after today, she was certain that Samuel will be busier than ever.

That was the reason why Vivian picked today as the day to tell him.

“Then, what is?”

Vivian smiled faintly and lifted her head up to stare at him, “I have something to tell you.”

“What?” The man folded his arms as if waiting for her to tell him what was bothering her. He looked like he was preparing himself to hear what she had to say, for his majesty slowly shifted his weight and reclined on his seat.

Vivian could feel her chest tightening and she began to stutter out, “…I mean.”

He looked at her impatiently as his brows furrowed slightly, “Tell me what you want to say.”

Still, despite his harsh tone, since the person he was talking to was Vivian, he was still rather patient with her compared to others. If someone else had dragged him around like this, he would have immediately gotten up and left his seat without even glancing back.

Such subtle tenderness and consideration which he only shows to Vivian made her hesitate, until now.

‘It’s over now though.’

She reminded herself before speaking once more, “I think it’s time we stop.”

Samuel’s calm faced shattered at her words.

Seeing her husband’s surprised face made her quickly look down at her slightly trembling nails, her fingers looked hazy under the light.

She didn’t have much time left.

She can no longer be Samuel’s wife; no longer be his crown princess.

It was time, she had to pull at the bridle and put an end to this marriage herself, “I want a divorce, Samuel.”

“Vivian!” Samuel called out her name as he stretched out his hands to grab her but before his fingertips could touch her skin, she had stood up from her seat and taken a step back. Her sudden evasion rendered her husband speechless as his face contorted in confusion.

Vivian scoffed,

‘It’s the last time I will see your face like this.’

It was time to drive the last nail into the coffin, “Forget me,” She started. She then paused to catch her breath then added, “It is my wish.”

She was certain her leaving wouldn’t change much for him, after all, when she is gone, another woman will take her place next to Samuel.

He would move on with his life.

Right now, she had to focus on herself and gather every remaining strength in her body to do what she must since Samuel was immune to her abilities.

She needed to erase her own memories; her memories that were only brimming with unspoken regrets.

Once she succeeds at doing this, then no one will be able to find her.

‘I wouldn’t have had to say it was a wish.’

Vivian stared at Samuel without even blinking.

She found herself slightly disappointed at his lack of reaction.

What did she expect, anyway?

There was no use to linger, when soon, she will forget his face.

Regardless, perhaps it was the final selfish thing she could do for herself; engrave his memory in her heart one last time.

After she left Samuel that night, Vivian disappeared without leaving a trace.
