Chapter 73: CHAPTER 71
The Bangtan Boys woke up in a different white, tiny room. They had them handcuffed on the floor, and they wondered why the room had a bed if they couldn't use it. They didn't change their clothes, and every time the boys needed to use the bathroom three men stayed with them.
A different man dressed in all white came every few hours to feed them, but the first days Yoongi and Jungkook snapped his hand with their feet, growling, until he left. Nevertheless, they gave up when they couldn't take it anymore. The man let one of their hands free, and everything from the cup of water to the knife was made of plastic.
Yoongi lost count of time, he couldn't manage to figure out how long had he been unconscious and how many days have already passed since he woke up. Jungkook constant barks let him know he was still alive, but he couldn't hear the rest. He wished he could hear Taehyung or Jimin, they must have been having the worst time out of the seven.
At one point, lost in boredom as he couldn't think of any way to go out, he hit the wall next to him with his hand. He cut his wrist at the movement, but he kept hitting until someone replied back.
Yoongi knew it wasn't Jungkook. Thanks to the porthole on his door, he could see the porthole on the door in front of his room. Every time that door opened, Jungkook's screams became louder until the door shut close.
It wasn't until the day a woman came to take blood, Yoongi started counting time. Literally. The same man came every six hours. One of the dishes didn't have as much food as the other two and he guessed it was dinner.
A group of men walked down the corridor every three hours and left half an hour later. Yoongi couldn't tell what they were going or what they were doing, all of them dressed in the same ridiculous white clothes. If you asked Yoongi, they looked like lame astronauts.
Some days he woke up by someone knocking on the wall before the same man came with the breakfast. He couldn't guess which one of the five boys was, but he started doing the same every time he woke up and right before drifting to sleep.
But it didn't matter to Yoongi who it was, both of them assuring the same thing: I'm alive.
Yoongi thought he lost it when he started smirking at Jungkook's complaints instead of getting worried, and when he didn't control his words in front of the man who could literally kill him.
I don't give a shit.
He tried his best to set himself free, but he couldn't. Actually, a few days before he was about to break the handcuffs, but the same man came in and replaced it with new ones. Yoongi spit him on the face, but to his surprise he was still breathing when he woke up.
Why the fuck they don't kill us? What are they waiting for?
Yoongi didn't have the answer the next day, but he swore he had heard something in the distance. Taehyung was defending himself from whatever they were trying to do to him, and it didn't matter how hard Yoongi pushed, he couldn't break that stupid handcuff.
Taehyung's yells were heard often and one day Yoongi had had enough. He planned every possible outcome and what he could do if he freed himself.
* * *
Jungkook pulls harder, cutting his skin deeper. He doesn't stop when the same man with a pathetic face gets in with the same bland food.
"Don't get near me, you dickhead!" Jungkook kicks his legs keeping the man away.
He has been studying them and their clothes and as far as he can tell, they aren't armed. But someone in the factory must be.
The man waits for Jungkook to end his daily tantrum, but this time Jungkook doesn't stop until he breaks both handcuffs and jumps towards him, punching his cheek. Jungkook sits on top of him and keeps punching him with all his might, releasing all the anger he has built all these days locked up.
Jungkook gets up and kicks the unconscious body of the man, admiring for just a moment the blood on his face. He takes a deep breath and runs towards the door, hitting it with his shoulder and triceps.
If he can't open the door, he'll tear it down.
Four men slide into the room when Jungkook takes a breath to recover himself. He tries to fight them, but he has poured all his energies trying to break the door that he doesn't have much left. Three men hold him still, while another man takes out a needle. Jungkook doesn't look away from it and spits at the man when he comes closer.
"I'll kill you." Jungkook thunders, the veins on his neck popping.
The man only smirks before walking behind him and sticking the needle on his nape. Jungkook eyesight becomes blurry before everything turns black.
The attempts of breaking the door didn't get unnoticed by Yoongi, who saw him through the small window. Yoongi wished he could get up, Yoongi wished Jungkook could've seen him. This time Yoongi decided to play smarter and stay quiet when some men entered Jungkook's room.
He lets out a sigh when the men come out without him, it means he's fine, right? They carry an unconscious bleeding man. Even if it lasts only a second and the face remains covered in blood, Yoongi recognises him as the foodie man.
The same person hits the wall behind him and Yoongi answers the same way. Thankfully, he's not the only one who noticed what happened.
* * *
Jungkook instincts kick in when he regains consciousness. He moves his wrists, but his hands are handcuffed above his head stronger than before.
"Fuck." he doesn't give up and soon warm blood runs down his arm.
Jungkook only stops fighting when a man enters the room in front of his, he doesn't have any doubts Yoongi's trapped in there. A few minutes later the man leaves, but he walks passed the same hallway a few times. Must be meal time.
Jungkook doesn't receive his usual meal like the others.
"So now these dickheads want to starve me to death?!" he growls to himself, moving his hands and creating more cuts.
Jungkook lets his body rest when he goes out of breath and his arms and hands become sore. He uses this time to recover his breath, but he won't stop until he escapes and rescues the others. How? He has no idea, but the first step is breaking what keeps him glued to the wall.
He furrows his eyebrows and sharpens his hearing at the sudden noise coming from somewhere in the hallway. Is someone fighting for their freedom as well?
Jungkook doesn't look away from the window, praying no one will come to stop whatever's happening.
Everything becomes quiet, still no men in sight.
Jungkook tries to get himself free one more time when his door bursts open.
"Taehyung!" Jungkook yells, only to regret it a few seconds later scared someone must have heard him.
Jungkook spots blood on his wrists and face, as if he had a fight with someone before coming here. Taehyung doesn't mutter a word as he opens the handcuffs with a key. He places Jungkook's arms down carefully before cupping his face.
"How - where did you get those? Where are those men? What happened?"
Taehyung stays quiet and licks his lips, observing Jungkook's face closely for any type of injury. Jungkook narrows his eyebrows at the odd behaviour of Taehyung and he squints his eyes to study him better.
"T - Tiger?"
A smirk appears on Taehyung's face. "Missed me, Bunny?"
Jungkook blinks. "Y - you're alive—how?"
"Not now," Tiger holds Jungkook's hands and helps him stand on his feet. "Later, hm?"
Jungkook wobbles a little after spending days in a seated position. He leans his arms on Tiger's shoulders, not looking away from the black galaxy. The same black galaxy he believed he would never see again. "But Tiger I thought I lost you. I thought you left me."
Tiger caresses his cheeks with his thumb, calming Jungkook's whines. "I would kiss you Bunny, but you stink."
Jungkook finally smiles and Tiger turns around to check their way out. "We must leave. It won't take them long to come for their usual checks."
"Wait wait wait, the others. Yoongi's in this room."
"Yeah, I know."
Jungkook's eyes widen, eyebrows raised. "Did you see him?"
Tiger rolls his eyes. "You both make a lot of noise."
Tiger takes another key from his pocket, but before he can't open the door Yoongi stands on the other side of the porthole. They blink at each other, confusion written all over their faces. Jungkook come out first of the trance and pinches Tiger slightly to make him react, biting his lips as he turns his head towards the door at the end of the hallway.
"What the fuck?!" Yoongi manages to whisper when he gets out. "Where did you get those?"
"A man came in for a visit and we had a fight. I won."
"Good. The others?"
Hoseok's the last one to get out, looking so much better than the others. Nonetheless, Namjoon wraps his arms around him and kisses his neck, making sure he's actually all right.
"We've to get the hell out of here." Tiger speaks up, turning his head at both doors. "You don't have the guns with you, right?"
Yoongi exhales heavily, shaking his head. "But I still have my needle. I opened one of the handcuffs with it and I was about to use it with the door."
Yoongi's left wrist has more cuts and blood than the right one.
One of the men opens the door on the other side of the corridor. He takes a sharp breath when he sees the Bangtan Bosy free. He holds the small device in his hand tightly and presses a button, going back at the same time the lights turn off, replaced by dim red lights along a loud siren.
Tiger takes a hold of Jungkook's hand and starts running in the other direction, all the boys following behind. Yoongi curses in happiness at the open door and they start running.
"Guys, find a door. One of these doors has to lead outside!" Namjoon explains between his pants.
"How do you know that?!" Yoongi questions him, stopping and offering his hand to Seokjin—who has stayed behind. They run together to catch the others.
"Because unlike you I've studied the maps!" Namjoon manages to tease him in between all the chaos.
Yoongi shakes his head but his smile disappears as soon as some men start chasing them, coming from one of the so many doors.
"Oh god, where do they come from?!" Jimin gasps, running for his life. "The people who built this stupid factory are crazy! Are we even in the basement?!"
Jungkook and Tiger open every door, taking advantage all the boys stay behind them, leading the way for them.
"Wait wait wait, Tiger, I've to go back." Jungkook pants, stopping om his heels. "They need me, they don't know how to fight without guns. If I fight them, you can win time."
"No." Tiger orders, holding his hand again. "Are you dumb? Hell, I won't lose you again!"
Hoseok almost bumps into them. "What the fuck are you doing? Run!"
"I'm so sorry." Jungkook apologises to Tiger and begins to run the opposite way.
He turns around to see Hoseok dragging Tiger with him, and a small wave of relief hits Jungkook.
The latter throws a flying kick to a man who tries to push Namjoon down, who had stayed behind to make sure all the boys get out in one piece. He pushes that man against the following three, making them stumble and fall to the ground.
Namjoon and Jungkook don't waste their opportunity and run for their lives, wishing the others must have found an exit already. They turn around on one of the corridors, following the others footsteps.
The Bangtan Boys scream, but Namjoon and Jungkook can't recognise the tone. Both of his lungs burn, sweat running down their faces.
"RM, be careful there's a hole -"
"God, fuck!" Namjoom hisses in pain.
Jungkook turns around at the same time Namjoon uses his hands to stand up, but his foot stays stuck inside. He moves it around, but it doesn't come out. From his ankle to his toe, everything stays stuck and he can't take off his shoe.
"I - I can't take it out." he breaths and turns his head around. The steps of those men get closer, but there's no one in sight yet.
"Come on!" Jungkook pulls his leg as hard as he can. "Holy moly, if it could get in, it can get out!"
Namjoon groans and bites his lips. "JK, listen to me. JK stop. Fuck, stop it!"
Jungkook doesn't listen to him, pushing Namjoon's leg towards him.
He won't leave him behind.
Namjoon takes deep, shaky breaths. "JK, it's useless. Please go with the others and save yourself"
Jungkook stands up, his face red and drench with sweat. "No! I'm not letting you behind. She'll fucking kill you, RM. We're a team, remember? I'm not letting you behind."
Namjoon facial expression becomes neutral, his dragon eyes staring into Jungkook's doe ones. "I'm your leader and I just gave you an order." The steps of those men become louder. "Don't make me repeat myself, run!"
"Are you nuts?! I'm not leaving you!"
Someone holds Jungkook's wrist and he hisses in pain, ready to hit the person—
"Tiger?! What are you doing here?!"
"We found an exit, what the hell are you doing?!"
"RM got stuck—"
"They're here, we found them!" a man says at the beginning of the corridor.
Tiger pulls at Jungkook again, but he refuses to leave.
"Did you forget the rules, JK?! If I say JK stay, you stay. If I stay JK run, you run. If I say JK hide, you hide. If I say let me behind and save yourself, you'll fucking let me behind and save yourself! Now go, both of you!"
Jungkook shakes his head, tears streaming down his face. Tiger literally drags him, ignoring Jungkook's will to save Namjoon. Jungkook screams his name one more time when they step into another room, losing Namjoon.
He runs along with Tiger but he only visions Namjoon stuck in that hole, by now trapped by all those men. Or who knows, dead. I let him behind. I could've saved him and I let him behind.
He sobs loudly the same moment his feet crush against mud. The cold pine breeze hits his face and invades his nostrils. He blinks, becoming aware of his surroundings. The full moon and the stars become the only source of light.
Tiger pulls at him again and Jungkook follows without questions.
They're both out of breath when they reach the van, the other's waiting impatiently. Tears still stream down Jungkook's red cheeks.
"What the fuck took you so long?!" Yoongi snaps, pulling Jungkook in a hug.
"Nam - Namjoon." Jungkook's breath gets stuck in his throat. "I - I tried to save him, but he - he didn't let me."
"What happened?" Hoseok comes closer, his heart about to explode inside his chest. "Did they shoot him?"
"I don't know," Jungkook sniffs, "I didn't hear anything."
"Me neither," Tiger confirms. "But they must have him already."
Yoongi pulls Jungkook closer and lets him cry on his shoulder, while he caresses his back in hopes to calm his own nerves.
Seokjin swallows, the burn in his throat intensifies as he keeps holding his tears. "We need to come back, we can't - we can't let him there. Please," he turns to Yoongi. "We need to save him, I - I can't lose him."
Hoseok hugs him from behind kissing his head multiple times. He understands him more than anyone, he once thought his Suga Mushy died. If they lose Namjoon, Seokjin would suffer the most, nobody can't change that.
"But he wanted us to run and save ourselves." Tiger replies serenely when everyone stays quiet.
Yoongi fills his cheeks with air and lets it out with a heavy sight. "Tiger's right, guys. We can't come back now, Namjoon knew what he was doing. Did you forget how our lives were during missions? Did you forget we couldn't swear if all of us would come out alive?"
Jimin screams, throwing a rock he had on his hands in the woods. "I'm tired of this life! Why - why can't we live a normal life?!" he turns to Tiger and pushes him, releasing some of his rage. "Bring my Moni back!"
Yoongi holds Jimin and soothes him, whispering in his ear.
Tiger raises his arms and takes a step back. "Why are you yelling at me? He said so, not me."
Hoseok runs a hand through his hair and takes a deep breath. "We all need to calm down. It's a miracle the six of us are—I thought you died? What are you doing here?"
Hoseok tilts his head and Tiger smirks. "Yeah, Taehyung should explain it, not me."
"Shit, guys." he looks around, voices echoing from the woods. "Tiger's right—we'll think about it later," he explains before Seokjin and Jimin can complain. "But we need to leave before they find us."
Jungkook sniffs, rubbing his runny nose with his sleeve. "Namjoon wanted me to save myself. He - he knows how to take care of himself. If they didn't kill us, they won't kill him now . . . right?
Seokjin shakes his head, his lips trembling. "You don't know him! He's a big baby, he needs us!"
"They won't." Tiger states for Jungkook, crossing his arms against his chest. "They kept us locked for at least a week and they didn't try to kill us. Yeah, they didn't let us take a shower—"
"Oh my god! That's why you all stink!" Hoseok covers his nose, stepping away from them.
Jimin blinks, wiping his tears. "Hold on, you took a shower?"
"And slept in the bed . . . What did you all do?"
"You slept on the bed?!" Yoongi roars, striding towards him. "They had me on the floor handcuffed all this time and you slept on the fucking bed?!"
They all turn to Hoseok with a big frown, Jungkook even stops crying.
Hoseok takes a step back, a nervous smile appearing on his face. "I was too scared that I behaved."
Yoongi shakes his head with a loud exhale. "But they kept you handcuffed, I saw how Tiger got you free."
Hoseok nods, breathing again.
Tiger takes the van's keys from his pocket when the voices coming from the woods get louder. "Let's go, this van and the house are the only safe places we've got."
* * *
The drive from the factory to their temporary house becomes longer and suffocating. Seokjin and Jimin still cry on Yoongi's and Hoseok's shoulders, while Tiger dies to hold Jungkook's hand but refrains to avoid any question.
Seokjin and Jimin feel at ease when they step inside their house, the familiar scent comforting their hearts even if it's just a little. Hoseok has convinced Jimin they won't kill Namjoon, but Seokjin stays stubborn, thinking the worst.
Hoseok accompanies Jimin to the bathroom because he doesn't have any prominent wounds. He showers with him, kissing Jimin's face and neck lovingly before stepping out.
In the meantime, Seokjin disinfects gently the wounds and removes the dry blood on Yoongi, Jungkook, and Tiger's wrists. He wraps a white cotton bandage around the affected area and gives gives them a pair of gloves for the shower.
Tiger lets the other boys shower before him, and Jungkook waits for him in the kitchen to apply some ointment to the cuts on his face.
The clock in the living room marks 3.30 a.m. when the boys sit down on the sofa together, still processing the last events and completely realising that Namjoon isn't among them.
Jungkook and Tiger sit side by side, the latter moving closer so his thighs touch. Jimin makes himself small in Hoseok's arms, resting his cheek on his chest. Hoseok buries his fingers on his blond wet hair, soothing him to sleep, but the petite boy's stomach growls.
"I hated the food in there, it tasted like nothing." Jimin pouts, rubbing his stomach.
Seokjin offers himself to make instant ramen for everyone, but Yoongi doesn't let him. Seokjin refuses to let Yoongi cook with his injured hands and they end up boiling the water together, pouring it carefully on the packaging.
The warm food brings another wave of familiarity and comfort to all the boys, but none of them can't stop thinking about the days they spent there and what they must be doing to Namjoon right now.
