Chapter 3: A Life, A Lesson
Kagome sat in a window seal, looking out at the busy nightlife of the city she was in. Couples walking, women holding their jackets tight to themselves, lights on on the city buildings lighting the way to nightlife fun. Kagome sighed and removed herself from the window; she grabbed her navy blue coat and her little hat, turned out the lights, and left the room. She thanked the doorman and walked out onto the city streets; it was a busy night, and the smell of fresh coffee was in the air. She had stayed the night at the hotel because the day before, she had attended a lecture, history of course. She walked alone along the streets till she found her way to the subway. She stood holding her place on the subway, staring out the window; there was not much to look at. Wall, post, wall, post. It was one of those nights, one of those nights where the city around her was busy and happy and living. But for her, it was just a lonely quiet night; she was so lost in her mind, thinking about nothing that all she saw was a blur, and all she heard was nothing.
She had got along in the world as best she could. She had done what she said she would do. She pushed out the thoughts of her past the day she had come back, she refused to cry. If she ever found herself thinking about them or their time together, she would do whatever it took to forget. Now those thoughts didn't bother her mind as much anymore; she had fought herself for so long to keep them away. She was taking history in college, but to her luck, none of it had anything to do with her time in the past,
That night she went home to the shrine; she had to finish something there. Six years had passed since she had come back from the past; she was now 24. In time her grandpa died, Sota had made it to the last year of high school and graduated, and her mom became a dressmaker.
The next morning was like every morning for her. She would wake up, get dressed, grab her computer, and leave. She would stop for her coffee and would say good morning to the morning regulars that she saw, always dropping her changes in the old beggar's cup as he sat on the street curve. She would make it to class at the same time everyone else did and would have light conversations with anyone who spoke to her. It was a morning like any other for her, but it would change.
"Ok, class!" her teacher said, clapping his hands. Being in college, and being in this history class was the only thing that she could let herself enjoy. But it, too, was coming to an end; these last few classes were it. She would be done and graduate with a degree in history.
"Ok, guys, I want to talk to you guys about a time period that was not on our topic of learning."
Though her classes offered many lessons in history, places, and times, it didn't teach all of them. If one wished to learn more or to study a specific era, they would have to take a class on that specific time in history; it would be a major if you will.
"I want to read to you my favorite stories,"
Kagome was just doodling; she had missed the whole first part of the story, that is, until now.
"Now im going to tell you about two brothers, The great demon Lord Sesshomaru and his younger half-brother Inuyasha."
Kagome's pencil broke, and her eyes shot up. She wanted to leave, did not want to hear, but for some reason, her legs would not work. Her heart rate increased.
"It is said the great demon Lord had lost his arms in battle with his bother but later got his arms back,"
Kagome would listen, tuning out parts she could care less about, studying the parts that she did care about.
"It seemed his younger brother would travel the lands with a monk, a demon slayer, and one powerful, beautiful Miko"
Kagome started to blush. He is talking about Miroku, Sango, and ME!
Kagome could not believe her ears.
"It was believed by many people in that time, that the Miko of the group was not of their time or maybe even their world; it was said she was powerful and very different.
Her teacher was now walking and reading from what looked like to be an old, torn brown leather back book.
"It says the girl killed a vile evil demon, put back the jewel we all know as the Shikon, and made her wish; though no one knows what the wish was, many tried to find out by asking the group she traveled with, but they would not say, because they themselves were not sure." For the longest time, she thought her grandfather was the only one who knew the story of the jewel; her first year in college, she discovered it was a well-known story.
Kagome looked down; she suddenly felt sadness rush over her.
"It is said that after the girl disappeared the demon Lord of the West disappeared, but we will talk about that later,"
Sesshomaru disappeared? Kagome thought, with an odd look on her face,
"Now it turns out the monk and demon slayer married and had three kids."
Only three Miroku... Kagome could not help but to have a small giggle.
"It is said they named one of the children after the Miko and wrote that the name would be a family name though no one knows what name that is. Many tried to trace the monk's name to see the names of his children to see if one of their names was used over and over down the family line, thus giving us the name of the Miko, but no one could because no one knew the monk's last name.
Kagome knew what his name was.
"Now, as for the younger brother, it was said that for a long time, he never married, but finally did, to a miko name Kikyo she died while in childbirth with their first child."
Kagome's heart sank Kikyo died again? She received life from my wis just to die again..
Kagome sighed; she was beginning to wonder if she had made the right wish. She was beginning to wonder if this was the jewel's punishment for her anger towards it.
"Now, on to my favorite part, the great demon Lord of the West," Her teacher kept reading.
"It was said that he ruled with Iron Claw; it was said that after the great battle, he kept to himself, never having anything to do with his brother or his friends."
...he always kept to himself and never had anything to do with his brother; nothing different there, She thought.
"It was said that after many years the demon slayer and monk were allowed to live on his lands, though it is not known why. The demon Lord was cold, and mean and did not tolerate much from humans. He was the strongest demon to rule. Though the power he sought did come, it came in an odd form; it says the demon lord took a strong, beautiful mate, and she bared him many children, thus softening his heart."
Sesshoamru mated and had kids! I mean, I knew he would want a son one day, but many kids?
Kagome found herself wanting to know more. Shocked. Her teacher continued.
"It never gives us the name of his wife; it says he had five kids, and his twins became powerful rulers. The power he sought came in the form of his twins."
Kagome was ready to fall off her chair. I wonder who he mated? I wonder if I know her...
Kagome had never been this invested in Sesshomaru, but here she was, enthralled by his love life.
Go, figure.
