Football: The British Legendary Manager

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Make Rome Great Again

"Mr. Henry, I don't know if you fully understand the situation with Bojan."

It was a formal meeting, and they had to maintain professionalism.

Henry, who had worked with the management of many clubs, also understood these rules. "I have recorded all the information about him. In fact, I believe I understand him very well. It is precisely because of this that I recognize his importance. Let me show you something."

Amidst the curious eyes of those present, he opened the suitcase that had been with him. It was full of folders—detailed records of the team's players, which he had obtained from the system and photocopied before coming to Rome.

He took out the folder labeled Bojan Krkić and distributed copies to everyone in the room.

Five minutes later, in the now silent room, Thomas DiBenedetto finally spoke: "Wow, I didn't expect such a detailed report. I see you have other folders in your suitcase. If they contain information on the other players, could you share them with us?"

Henry hesitated. If this information were leaked, it would be a major disaster. The reports contained everything—detailed strengths and weaknesses of the players, insights that were meticulously compiled from the system.

An older man, noticing his concern, reassured him: "Once we finish reading, all these documents will be returned to you."

Relieved, Henry nodded and passed the remaining documents to the executives.

Each folder was meticulously organized, containing detailed player profiles, performance statistics, psychological assessments, injury histories, attributes, and even personal notes on playing styles, ratings, and potential as evaluated by the system.

After about 30 minutes, some had finished reading and were now looking at Henry with a newfound respect. They had to admit—they might have truly struck gold with him.

Thomas, who had finished reviewing the documents, couldn't help but joke. "If you were a scout, every club in Europe would be after you. And if you were an agent… well, I wouldn't even dare to imagine the possibilities."

At this point, they had nearly forgotten that the initial discussion was about Bojan, not Henry. But Henry himself was deeply invested in Bojan's potential as a future core player.

"I'll take that as a compliment," Henry said with a confident smile. "Now you can see that Bojan is a high-level gamble. If he doesn't fulfill his potential, at worst, we will have trained him for two years. But if he does, imagine signing a player with Messi-level talent for just €40 million."

His bold statement left the executives deep in thought. After all, even in his early days, without significant achievements, Inter Milan had been willing to pay $100 million for Messi. Now that Messi was the best player in the world, signing him for €40 million was nothing short of a fantasy. If there was even a chance of Bojan reaching that level, it was a risk worth considering.

A female executive with sharp, intelligent eyes spoke up. "I agree. The club can afford such a gamble. No, in fact, I believe we should take it. But I must ask—how did you gather all this information? Some of these insights are incredibly deep, as if you've personally followed each of these players for years."

Henry remained composed. "Let's just say I have my methods," he replied seriously. "Over the past few days, I've devoted all my time to reading the news, watching every game, and analyzing every player. I don't take this job for granted—I genuinely want to succeed and prove that I deserve this opportunity."

Of course, he couldn't reveal the system. That was his biggest trump card. Who knew what would happen if people found out? He could very well end up as a test subject for experimentation.

Sure enough, the meeting room erupted into vigorous applause after his speech. At this moment, they had no idea just how much more prepared Henry was compared to Enrique last year. At least in terms of understanding the players, there was simply no comparison.

"Now, I believe we can all agree that Henry's approach is exactly what this club needs. I hope that moving forward, we can all work together to achieve our vision." Though he knew it was unlikely that everyone's interests would align perfectly, these words still needed to be said.

With that, the rest of the meeting proceeded smoothly. On his very first day, Henry had already won over many members of the club's executive team.

...

The evening sun cast a golden hue over the city of Rome, as if mirroring the colors of AS Roma's home jersey—especially fitting on the day a new manager was taking office.

At the Stadio Olimpico, the atmosphere was lively, despite the fact that the season had already ended and no match was taking place. The sounds of camera shutters clicking and murmured conversations filled the air, indicating the significance of the moment.

At the front of the podium adorned with AS Roma's emblem, Henry and Thomas DiBenedetto stood with composed, commanding presences.

Thomas stepped forward, tapping the microphone. "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us. Today marks a new chapter for AS Roma. It is my privilege to introduce Henry Walker, our new head coach for the next three years."

Henry stood with a professional smile. Dressed in a sharp suit, his natural blonde hair and youthful appearance made him look as if he were in his early or mid-twenties.

"Thank you, Mr. Chairman. It is an honor to be here today as the head coach of AS Roma. It feels like a dream."

He spoke in English. Though he had been studying Italian for the past few days, he was still a beginner.

The gathered journalists applauded, not necessarily out of excitement, but because they were invited by the club, and certain formalities were expected. Symbolic applause was one of them.

Henry sighed internally. So this is what they call the honeymoon period. He had no doubt that, soon enough, the media would be giving him headaches on a near-daily basis. Nonetheless, now was the time to reassure the fans and set the tone for his tenure.

"I'm fully aware that AS Roma is unlike any club I have coached or managed before. It is a giant in football, with passionate fans around the world and a proud history in Serie A."

"It also has some of the most loyal players I know, like Totti and De Rossi. Just with those two alone, the club has a solid foundation to compete. But beyond that, we have young talents like Pjanić, Marquinhos, and Lamela, as well as players with strong fighting spirit like Osvaldo. I will do my utmost to unlock the full potential of this team."

"As for the fans, I won't ask for your support blindly. I understand that I have yet to prove myself in this city, and I recognize the challenges ahead, especially considering last season's results."

"I know that you love this club, some of you, perhaps, even before I was born. So, for the love you have for AS Roma, I ask that you give these players the chance to redeem themselves for last season's mistakes. Give me the chance to prove myself. And together, let us unite and work toward restoring this club to the heights where it truly belongs."
