Fled Without Realizing I Had Prevented the Apocalypse

Chapter 22 - The Spider Collecting Gold Coins (2)

“Sigh…”
The sound of a sigh filling the entire quiet room.

Recently, this was the sound Beatrice kept making.
Beatrice, who was watching a lone bird flying beyond the window, repeatedly sighed and then looked at the documents placed on the desk.
The documents contained information about the movements of Aleph-grade members, the most important and well-managed grade in the Beatrice Guild.
Being Aleph-grade in the Beatrice Guild, one of the Empire’s five major guilds, means they already have social influence in themselves.
Therefore, most of them don’t have many documents flying in, and even if they do occasionally, it’s just trivial stories like going on a hotel vacation to the north where barbarians abound, or suddenly declaring they want a lover and kidnapping a man.
Except for one person.
“What on earth is he doing there…”
Beatrice picked up a document that seemed to be the most important among the Aleph-grade member information documents, with several star marks on it.
The name written on that document was Kyle Amillan.
The special note was that Kyle is currently in battle with a Contaminant horde that suddenly appeared in the southern Empire.
Below that, it was written that the Empire’s Second Star, Scarlet Frausia, personally issued a summons to the southern Empire, and at least 58 superhumans of 5th rank or higher responded to that summons.
Additionally, it stated that the First Princess of Raziel and an Aleph-grade member are confronting the Contaminants together, and detailed information about the battlefield is being controlled by the Empire’s Special Forces.
Beatrice, who instantly absorbed the information written on the document into her mind, drew the battlefield Kyle would have faced based on the given facts.
“Although there’s no basis for the appearance of Contaminants, there must be a reason for such a large-scale appearance of Contaminants forming a horde.”
“The situation is too coincidental to say that it was something that had been there for a long time and was just dealt with now. The First Princess of the Kingdom of Raziel suddenly falling in the south, and the Contaminants appearing near her.”
“It would be better to find a connection between the convergence of Contaminants and the summoning of the princess. Preferably in the way that Contaminants followed the princess’s summoning.”
Beatrice’s drooping eyes shine brilliantly for a moment.
Based on the information written on the document, she started to mutter something continuously.
“Scarlet Frausia’s summons, and Kyle suddenly saying he’ll escort the princess with agents from the Special Forces and Intelligence Department.”
“Scarlet Frausia, that woman must have given some request to Kyle. Since she doesn’t use money and just stashes it in warehouses, she probably paid a hefty request fee.”
“However, even a Sword Master couldn’t have foreseen the collective appearance of Contaminants along with the princess’s appearance…”
After tapping her finger while looking down at the document for a moment, Beatrice soon reached a conclusion.
“It was purely luck. Did a simple escort mission grow into a large-scale Contaminant subjugation?”
Although it basically started relying on luck, the subsequent summons and army of superhumans that followed. All of that must have been created according to plan.
And Beatrice already knew the face of the superhuman who accomplishes all such impossible plans.
“This is why I wanted to tie him down…!!”
All the information has been grasped.
No matter how hastily the Empire’s Special Forces and Intelligence Department try to hide all information, there’s no complete lie in the world, so it will be revealed someday.
Then, it’s the law that whoever gets their hands on the information first before that lie is revealed gains the advantage.
In that sense, Beatrice’s reason had already come up with dozens of ways to benefit from utilizing this information, but.
“Why won’t he get caught!!”
Her emotions were obsessing over the loss she had just suffered rather than the future gains.
“Sigh… Sigh… Sigh…”
Repeated sighs.
Perhaps because it’s not just a simple sigh but the sigh of a 5th rank magician, and a magician with the special variation of manipulation at that.
Her sighs began to have physical effects beyond simple air currents.
For example, the quill pen that was lying down stood up on its own and wrote onomatopoeia of sighs or poured out her inner thoughts on blank paper.
It would have been nothing if one didn’t pay attention to it, but.

“If it bothers you that much, just catch him!”
The secretary who had been quietly enduring the guild leader’s hysteria in the same room apparently couldn’t do so anymore.
She looked at the guild leader who hired her with genuine exasperation and said,
“You don’t really need the debt, you can just say you want him to be in your guild, Guild Leader!”
“But… That person’s record needs to be a bit more splendid. Just look at the debt, how much money was it, he’s paying it all off.”
At Beatrice’s mumbling, the secretary closed her mouth for a moment.
The secretary was the only being who knew Kyle’s true identity along with Beatrice, so she knew who he was and how much his debt was.
The 2 billion debt that made her jaw drop when she first saw it.
That enormous debt that seemed impossible for an ordinary person to repay in a lifetime, the man named Kyle reduced it to about 100 million in less than 3 years.
If there’s no debt, what reason would that man have to stay in this guild?
Although the Beatrice Guild is not just some neighborhood guild but one of the Empire’s five major guilds, it becomes an unconvincing reputation in front of the name Kyle Amillan, so Beatrice’s secretary understood her concerns to some extent.
“Sigh, then what. Try to catch him somehow.”
“…Catch him? How?”
“Hmm, I heard tutoring is becoming popular among nobles again these days, maybe use that as an excuse.”
It was a half-joking remark.
Her employer, Beatrice, is a magician who has reached the 5th rank.
At least she has never heard of a magician of that rank receiving one-on-one tutoring.
Thinking about it, it could be rather disrespectful to high-pride superhumans.
Which superhuman would take on expensive tutoring, lowering their pride just to catch one person? If one’s right mind is firmly in place, they wouldn’t do such a thing.
Much less her employer who is called the incarnation of reason.
“Ah, this is not it. Just forget…”

So the secretary tried to cancel her words immediately, but.
“That’s not bad…?”
Her employer seriously accepted the secretary’s suggestion.

And now, back to the present.
“Why did you put in this kind of request? Beatrice.”
Kyle looked down at her with a frown.
Clearly more irritated than before.
Beatrice also understood Kyle’s reaction to some extent.
It was because of the rumors about her circulating in the world.
‘The spider collecting gold coins has never made a deal that was disadvantageous to herself.’
Actually, it’s a natural statement.
It’s considered a basic mindset for a merchant.
The problem is that the tutoring she’s trying to do now directly opposes that mindset.

It might be understandable if it benefited both parties, but tutoring aimed at superhumans is rather poisonous if she doesn’t advance to the next rank from the start.
Once you reach a position around the 5th rank, it’s natural for everyone to develop their own subjectivity.
“Did you want to play me for a fool?”
“I didn’t particularly want to play you for a fool…”
“If that’s not it, there’s no reason for you to take tutoring directly, right? In the first place, you don’t even care much about your own rank.”
At Kyle’s words, Beatrice nodded inwardly.
Just as she understood why Kyle was angry, she had a clear self-objectification about herself.
She doesn’t have much attachment to her rank.
Although the desire to advance to the next rank as a superhuman is said to be so intense that one would pursue it even at a loss, she has never had such a desire.
In other words, she lacks the upward desire that superhumans naturally have, that is, the mindset to advance to the next rank.
Nevertheless, the reason she built up her rank was to survive.
In an empire full of superhumans, to protect oneself as a person with influence, one had to be at least 5th rank.
Besides, there were many convenient things about becoming a magician.
However, that was just up to the 5th rank.
Beatrice herself thought there was no reason to spend time and effort to advance to the 6th rank.
Even if she spent that time, she didn’t know if she could reach the realm of 6th rank, and she already didn’t have much time to spare just handling the guild’s affairs that she had established.
“Originally, that was true.”
Therefore.
Everything she’s saying now was all lies.
“But, seeing the increasing frequency of Contaminant appearances these days, it seems like 5th rank won’t be enough. I think I need to be at least 6th rank to not face life-threatening situations…”
“Life-threatening?”
“For a guild leader of one of the Empire’s five major guilds, there are many who aim for my neck. I have no shortage of enemies.”
Kyle’s expression softened a bit at Beatrice’s lie.
At the same time, he who hadn’t been paying attention to her words seemed to be pondering a little.
They say true deception is not just telling lies, but melting lies into the truth.
What Beatrice said just now was the same.
There were many who aimed for her neck, but they weren’t actually a threat to her, and although the frequency of Contaminant appearances had increased, it was still sufficient with 5th rank for now.

This was the method she mainly used when making deals for guild business.
“Rank advancement related to life and death. And considering the time you usually spend on guild work… Indeed, receiving guidance would be efficient.”
“Right?”
When she finally elicited Kyle’s understanding and permission.
Beatrice smiled.
Although she had told lies, she had achieved her goal.
However, despite achieving what she wanted, Beatrice couldn’t understand why her chest felt tight.
She just tightly gripped the fan she was holding.
And so, the one-on-one tutoring of a superhuman began.
