Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Spirit of Competition part I
Hey guys,Novaflame6 here again! Hopefully you guys enjoyed the last chapter! Now the outcome of this section of season 1 in the legend of korra series I'll be making some rather subtle changes to account for certain characters in this story, namely the oc's.
Since Odyn is a very different kind of male lead, his relationship with Korra will look unique. Remember that he doesn't trust humans that much due to his past with them. Roy and Ikki's relationship will be a little more natural i think (ikki is older in this story to put her closer to Roy's age). As for Bolin... I'll probably still include his infatuation with Korra initially, but I'll change the whole outcome of it because... well Sarai does exist in this story so i'll be using a little of that dynamic to create a better ending to that situation.
Asami may end up with a pairing later on, but we'll see. Which means.. yeah, Mako will end up with another girl. Though I'm pretty sure you guys already know who it'll be. Anyways that's all for now, onto the story!
Opening theme:
Opening- Senjou no Valkyria opening 1
Visuals: shows several stills of the main cast as they go about their normal everyday lives, including Odyn and Korra interacting with each other. The chorus shows the main cast fighting off all of the equalists, while Odyn and Korra face off against Amon. Once the fighting ends, it shows Odyn smiling and reaching a hand out towards Korra who turns to face him.
Chapter 3: The Spirit of Competition I
The screen comes back up and shows the gym, early in the morning with Korra, Bolin, and Mako all training for the Pro bending tournament. After the incident on Avatar Aang Memorial Island, Korra was given a leave of absence from Tarrlok's Task Force.
Odyn stood off to the side, watching the Avatar train with her teammates. He'd also been giving her training on the side to help her become a better pro bender. Though all their training was purely in hand to hand combat, it helped Korra with her reaction time and adjusting to unforeseen circumstances. Now that she was back with her pro bending team, Korra could focus on things much more important to her. Things like, helping her teammates prepare for the upcoming pro bending tournament. In the midst of them practicing, Mako looked over towards the Avatar, to see that Odyn had joined her. He was.. instructing her? That was odd.
"Like that?," Korra asked looking towards the blue haired dark teen.
Odyn observed her form before walking over to her and adjusting her posture.
"Hmm.. close, but not quite. You're a bit too tense in the knees. Relax your footing and straighten your stance...," Odyn said as he helped the girl readjust her stance.
He then continued instructing her.
"Now try and hit me... and don't hold back this time!"
Korra nodded with a determined look as she put her full weight into the strike aimed at Odyn. The dark elf stuck his hand out, palm open to absorb the blow.
"HAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!"
Odyn caught the blow, but definitely felt himself move back slightly due to the power behind it. Steam came from where her fist impacted the elf's hand. Odyn smirked towards her.
"Excellent form, Korra! That's more like it! Approach an opponent like that.. and I believe any Bender, Chi blocker, Equalist, or whoever else will have a much more difficult time fighting you. As long as you continue to train and hone your skill that is..," Odyn replied.
Korra smiled towards the dark teen, he'd been an excellent teacher for her so far.
"Well, I do have an excellent teacher.," Korra admitted smiling towards him.
Mako raised an eyebrow at seeing the interaction between the two.
"Huh.., weird. Since when did those two get along so well with each other? Last time I checked, Korra was always arguing with him..," Mako thought to himself.
Bolin also thought it was a bit odd, but he figured that maybe they just settled their overall differences and agreed to get along now.
"It's been great having you at so many back-to-back practices, Korra. Right, Bolin?," Mako said looking towards his brother.
Bolin raised up an arm in agreement.
"Yeah, totally! We really missed ya. Practices just weren't the same without you. And... you even brought us someone who really knows his stuff when it comes to combat!," Bolin said.
Korra chuckled in agreement.
"Yeah, feels good to be back! Thankfully... I had someone (looks towards Odyn and smiles, the dark elf nodding in acknowledgement of the gesture) stubborn enough to knock some sense into me. Although, Tarrlok isn't too happy about my absense.," Korra said.
Bolin spoke up.
"Hey, you joined The Fire Ferrets before you joined his task force.," Bolin replied.
Odyn nodded and spoke up.
"He's right you know, Korra. So you don't need to feel guilty or sorry about it. You're simply getting your priorities straight.," Odyn said sagely.
Korra adopted a thoughtful position.
"Huh.. you know, you're right Odyn. I never even thought of it that way before.," Korra said.
Mako then gestured for the teens to gather around into a small team huddle.
"Okay, Team huddle time!," Mako said with a smile.
The trio then are seen to be gathering into a small huddle until they look over towards the two dark elves who were off to the side. Bolin then waved over the two.
"Come on you guys, get over here!," Bolin called towards them.
Odyn was confused as he raised an eyebrow and pointed towards himself and his sister in question.
"Wait, us? Are you sure about that?," Odyn asked caught off guard slightly.
Sarai giggled as she looked towards her brother.
The other teens nodded in agreement. Odyn still wasn't sure and it took some convincing from Sarai for him to walk over to the teens.
"Yes, they mean us Nii san... Let's go.," Sarai said giggling and pushing him towards the group of teens.
Odyn chuckled and sighed in resignation, he knew that he couldn't win an argument with his sister when she had decided on something like this.
"Well, I guess we're doing this then...," Odyn said aloud with a smile and amused look on his face.
The teens gathered into a huddle and were seen smiling at one another. Mako then spoke up as each of the teens were seen beaming at each other.
"It's our first match in the tournament tonight, I know we haven't been a team very long but.. even so, The Fire Ferrets have never been this good before! And... with the knowledge of combat Odyn and Sarai have that's been helping us since Korra came back.. I feel like we'll be ready for anything! Are we ready guys?," Mako said giving a brief pep talk to his teammates.
"We're ready!", Both Korra and Bolin shouted in agreement.
Asami is then seen walking into the practice room with Future Industries sponsored gear as she holds up a shirt. Khanna was seen to be walking in with the girl.
"Not quite, you'll need these.,"Asami said holding one of the shirts the Fire Ferrets would be wearing.
Mako turns and smiles.
"Hey Asami. And uh... good morning to you too, Khanna.," Mako said.
Sarai raised an eyebrow at the response from Mako. She was seen whispering to Bolin and Korra.
"Is it just me or.. does Mako seem kinda awkward around Khanna for some reason?" Sarai asked her two friends in a whisper.
Korra and Bolin both nodded towards the Lavender and crimson haired girl.
"No Sarai, it ain't just you... I noticed that too.," Korra whispered back.
Bolin simply nodded in agreement while closing his eyes and crossing his arms.
"Mmm-hmm, Mm-hmm!," Bolin nodded in agreement.
Sarai then spoke again.
"Well... you can hardly blame the guy. Khanna is really pretty after all, but.. so is Asami. And I doubt he wants to hurt either of them.," Sarai reasoned.
Bolin chimed in with some fake tears.
"Talk about a conundrum... at least save some of the ladies for the rest of us, Mako...," Bolin said crying comical tears.
"Morning sweetie.," Asami said sweetly to Mako.
Korra looks not so subtly annoyed, something that Odyn and Sarai notice. Sarai smirked towards her brother.
"Uh oh.. someone's a little jelly there if you catch my drift, brother.," Sarai said elbowing her brother in the side slightly.
Odyn looked towards his sister, clearing his throat and looking away with his cheeks burning slightly.
"A-Ahem! I'm sure I told you that it's not like THAT with us, sis..," Odyn looked away momentarily embarrassed.
Sarai was seen to be slyly smirking towards her brother.
"I bet it's not, brother. ," Sarai said slyly smiling.
Bolin was a little confused at the interaction between Odyn and Korra earlier, he'd have to ask Korra about that later on.
Mako then expressed his jubilation upon getting a good look at the new uniforms for the Fire Ferrets.
"These looks great!," Mako said excited.
Asami echoes the sentiment.
"You look great, champ!," Asami said smiling.
Mako and Asami do an 'Eskimo kiss'. Bolin looks with a "Really?" expression, while Korra shows her disgust, but quickly acts normal when Mako turns to her. Odyn raised a curious eyebrow at this peculiar behavior from Korra, he'd never seen her act like that. He was sure that he'd get to the bottom of it eventually. Sarai then looks towards Bolin with a smile, making the earth bender's heart skip a beat. Mako then turned and waved to his teammates as Asami was seen to be wrapping her arm around Mako's as they were seen walking off.
"Well, see you later before the match tonight, teammates. Asami and I have a lunch date." Mako said walking off with Asami.
Bolin is seen waving and calling out to the duo after recovering from the trance that Sarai had put him in with her smile.
"Okay, we'll check in with you guys later. Err.. I mean, we'll see ya when we see ya.," Bolin called back to the couple.
Bolin is seen to be sliding over to Korra with his hands behind his head.
"So... Korra.. There they go, here we are, all alone in the gym, just you and me, two alone people. Together. Alone." Bolin said.
Korra raised an eyebrow before speaking.
"Uh.. Bolin, aren't you forgetting the three other people here with us? Odyn, Sarai, and Khanna?," Korra asked confused and pointing her thumb to the aforementioned trio who were seen to be discussing something.
Bolin was noticeably nervous as he remembered that Sarai was here.
"O-oh yeah r-right.. heh heh kinda forgot they were here.. "
Korra then picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder as she waved to the bender.
"Well, I gotta head back to air temple to train some more... uh.. ahem! Odyn! (he looks over, a look of recognition crossing his face) Weren't you going to show me that one thing from the other day you said we'd work on? Like.. now!," Korra said.
Odyn walked towards her and waved for Korra to follow him.
"Right you are. Let's go, Korra.," Odyn said.
Korra waved towards Bolin and slightly bowed in apology as she spoke.
"Sorry Bolin, maybe some other time? See ya later!," She said sprinting off after Odyn.
Khanna and Sarai, meanwhile were seen to be slyly smirking at the development between Odyn and the Avatar. Bolin is seen to be disappointed that he couldn't pick up a date with Korra. Sarai is seen to be walking over to the disappointed bender as she offered a small smile towards the teen.
"Um.. Mister Bolin?," Sarai asked.
This brought Bolin out of his thoughts before he jumped back upon realizing that the pretty lavender haired dark elven girl was right in front of him.
"Whaa?! Oh ahem! W-What can I D-do for you?," Bolin asked nervously.
Sarai was seen to be fidgeting slightly as she held her hands behind her back and stared down at her feet.
"I uh.. know it's not the same as going with Korra, but um.. I'd be happy to go somewhere with you if you're up for it?," Sarai asked.
Bolin's face was red and he felt like steam was coming out of his ears. Did this girl just... ask him what he thought he heard?
Khanna was seen to be silently snickering at Bolin's reaction to Sarai's question. It was pretty clear that Bolin had no idea how to handle a beautiful, yet innocent girl like Sarai who just indirectly asked him out on a date. But, it was also true that he had this "odd" infatuation with Korra. Khanna didn't really have anything to do at the moment so it might be fun seeing Bolin awkwardly fumble his way through an outing with Sarai. Bolin gulped and responded.
"Uhh... s-sure why not?," Bolin said nervous.
Sarai giggled again before speaking up.
"You can relax, mister Bolin. I'd just like an abbreviated tour of downtown Republic City. I didn't really get the the full experience the other day. Korra showed me lots of things, but I was kinda wondering if there were spots of the city only you know about?," Sarai said.
Bolin was just seen to be nodding as he was internally a nervous wreck.
"Great! Will tomorrow work?," she asked.
Bolin straightened up, stiff as a statue.
"YEAH, THAT'LL WORK..," He said nervously.
Sarai then giggled as she leaned over slightly and smiled towards him.
"So.. It's a date, then?," Sarai asked.
Bolin nodded frantically in response.
The girl then skipped off, waving bye to him.
"See you tomorrow then, mister Bo- er... I mean, Bolin!," Sarai said skipping away.
Khanna then walked past the teen and put a hand on his shoulder.
"Good luck, Bolin. You take care of my cousin tomorrow, okay? Knowing her, she'll enjoy every minute of her time with you. (gets serious) She really does like you Bolin, more than you know.," Khanna said before walking off.
Bolin just stared into space, unsure of what to do. He had a crush on Korra, but... the prettiest girl he'd ever seen just.. asked him out on a date. What was he supposed to do now?!
Later in the attic of the bending arena where both brothers were staying...
The scene cuts to the brothers' attic, where Mako is preparing dinner while Bolin is preparing a bath for Pabu. The animal protests his owner's act, but Bolin finally manages to dip Pabu into the tub of water, who subsequently rises from it, shaking off water from his body with a look of defeat.
"Come on, work with me here Pabu! You wanna look spic n' span in your new uniform, don't you?," Bolin said.
Bolin then addressed his brother with a question.
"What do you think about Korra, in a "girlfriend" sort of way?"
Mako looked over to his brother briefly before answering him.
"I think she's great! But I think it makes more sense for me to go for Asami.," Mako answered.
Bolin looks at his brother annoyed before speaking.
"I was talking about a girlfriend for me! Leave some ladies for the rest of us!" Bolin replied slightly annoyed with Mako.
Mako looks up from the newspaper he was reading.
"I know, that's what I thought you meant.," Mako responded.
Bolin looked hopeful.
"Well...?" Bolin asked.
Mako sighed.
"I dunno Bo, I don't think it would be a very good idea for you to date Korra."Mako replied.
Bolin was slightly upset at this, throwing his hands up in frustration.
"But you just said she was great two seconds ago!" Bolin responded.
Mako voiced his reasoning for his answer as he spoke again.
"Yeah, she's a great athlete, and Avatar, and stuff... But I wouldn't say she's really "girlfriend material", she's more like a pal you hang out with. Although..." Mako said trailing off.
Bolin picked up on that subtle change in tone and listened.
"Although what?," Bolin asked curious.
Mako looked towards his brother before sighing.
"Did you.. notice how Korra and Odyn were today?" Mako asked.
Bolin raised an eyebrow in thought.
"Yeah, I did. It seemed a little odd, but I figure that maybe they just decided to settle their differences and get along now. Why?" Bolin answered.
Mako thought about the two friends of his just then.
"That's just it. Korra always seemed to be at odds with Odyn or angry at him about something. I'm telling you Bo, I think... something must've happened between them during the whole incident with Amon and the equalists on Memorial Island. "
Bolin thought about that. Admittedly, he agreed that there was some truth to that claim.
"I guess, but why are you bringing that up now?" Bolin asked.
Mako continued.
"I'm not positive about this but.. I think there might be something between the two of them. The way in which Korra was happy to see him, that seemed a little beyond normal.," Mako theorized.
"Maybe, but I like Korra too.," Bolin said. "Incidentally, Mako.. can I ask you something?"
Mako turned and faced Bolin, his full attention on the teen.
"Sure Bo, what's up? It sounds important.," Mako replied as he listened.
"What.. What do you think about Khanna?," Bolin asked.
Mako was a little caught off guard by the question, not expecting it.
"Khanna, huh? Okay.. what about her?," Mako asked trying to recover from his surprise which Bolin definitely noticed.
"What do you think about her? and be honest.", Bolin asked.
Mako, not expecting that question from his brother had to quickly calm himself as he wracked his brain for an answer.
"Well.. she's defintely very pretty for one thing. And.. kind of relatable. Though.. she's far more ahem! agressive then would have thought.. though i've yet to see her fight. Why do you ask, Bo?," Mako answered.
Bolin looked his brother straight into the eyes and was direct.
"You seem.. I dunno, kinda awkward around her. So.. What's the story there?," Bolin asked.
Mako sighed again, mainly because he knew this question would come just... not out of the mouth of his own brother.
"It's... a little complicated, that's all.," Mako answered. "Did.. something happen after me and Asami left the gym?"
Bolin looked like he was sweating before answering.
"Uh.. well... you could.. say that." Bolin said uncomfortably.
That definitely got his attention as he looked straight at Bolin.
"Bo, what happened?" Mako asked seriously.
Bolin sweat again before he answered.
"Well uh... You know that sister of Odyn's.. Sarai I believe?," Bolin began.
Mako nodded.
"Go on.." Mako said.
"um... she uh... kinda... maybe.. possibly... asked me out.,"Bolin admitted.
Mako went wide eyed.
"She what?," Mako asked surprised.
"I like Korra, but.. then sarai... asks me out. What should I do?!," Bolin said slightly panicking.
Mako chuckled and then beckons Bolin over before putting an arm around his shoulder.
"Alright Bo, tell me about Sarai then..," Mako said before Bolin begins to relay to him what happened after he left the gym with Asami.
With Korra: Air Temple Island...
Back on the Island, Korra is seen with Jinora and Ikki feeding fruit to ring tailed lemurs in the snow. She had just completed another training session with Odyn a little while ago. The girl had to admit it, she was actually enjoying the training with the blue haired dark elf. She felt like she was learning alot about herself. That still didn't change one simple fact: Korra had never met anyone as fierce in battle as Odyn was before. The dark teen was formiddable in close quarters combat. So much that she had to wonder: What was he like using magic and his full power? If he was anything remotely like he was in her training sessions with him... she firmly believed that there may not be a single terrorist, bender, equalist, or even someone like Amon that would be able to defeat him. Korra felt her heartbeat start to increase. That was odd... Why... was she feeling this way? Her Heart only started to beat faster whenever she thought about Odyn for some reason.. but why would that be? As far as she knew, she'd only ever had eyes for.. Mako, but why was she feeling this way about Odyn?
The Avatar felt her face start to get hot anytime she thought about the blue haired dark elven teen. It wasn't that way before, so.. why now? She was brought out of her internal musings by a particular question Jinora asked her.
"So how's it going with that tall dreamy dark elf boy, Korra? You've been spending alot of time together recently." Jinora asked.
Korra's face flushed a deep crimson as she wasn't expecting that particular question.
"Wh-What?! No! No no no no no no no! Odyn and I aren't like that.. (nervously laughs it off) I'm n-not interested in him at all like that, He's more like... my teacher, like your dad Tenzin in a way. B-but let's just say for instance... err... well let's pretend that there was.. a chance that I was interested in him romantically. What should I do?," Korra said blushing and fidgeting subtly.
Jinora thought for a moment and then spoke up.
"Well, I don't know how this applies to you Korra, but.. I did read this historical saga where the heroine falls in love with the enemy general's son, who's supposed to marry the princess. You should do what she did!" Jinora said.
Korra, now interested listened intently.
"Tell me then!," Korra said enthusiatic.
Jinora relayed what happened, but it.. wasn't quite the answer the Avatar was looking for.
"She rode a dragon into battle and burned down the whole country, then she jumped into a volcano! It was so Romantic!," Jinora said.
Korra was left a little dumbfounded at the bizzarre answer before Ikki chimed in.
"No, no, no! The best way to win a boy's heart is to brew a love potion of rainbows and sunsets that makes true lovers sprout wings and fly into a magical castle in the sky, where they get married and eat clouds with spoons and use stars as ice cubes in their moonlight punch. Forever and ever and ever!," Ikki said airbending upward in a circular motion of excitement.
Korra almost could feel herself facefault at the polar opposite answers.
"Uh... And suddenly the Volcano makes way more sense to me now..." Korra said not sure what to really say after that.
Pema was heard to be laughing in the background.
These girls.. while not children anymore, still retained their child like imaginations into their pre teen (Ikki) and teenage years (Jinora).
Korra then turns and sees Pema on the path.
"Oh.. hey Pema, about how long have you been standing there?," Korra asked slightly sweating in nervousness.
Pema calmly walked forward as she answered the young Avatar.
"Long enough. But trust me, I know what you're going through. I went through the same exact thing years ago with my husband, Tenzin.," Pema replied.
Ikki was seen to be surprised.
"Dad was in love with someone else before you, mom?," Ikki asked.
Pema nodded.
"That's right.," Pema answered.
Korra then voiced her thoughts just then.
"What did you do?" Korra asked.
Pema was then seen smiling at the memory before answering the girls' curiosity.
"Well.. for the longest time, I was content to do nothing. I was so shy and scared of rejection, but watching my soulmate spend his life with the wrong woman became far too painful to bear. So I hung my chin out there and confessed my love to Tenzin. In other words, I took a brave step forward , no matter what the outcome of it was. And.. as you know, the rest is history.," Pema answered.
"Wooowww!!!," Korra, Ikki, and Jinora all said in unison.
Ikki and Jinora walk off, while Pema pulls Korra aside after.
"Pema, that was a great story and all.. but how does that apply to my situation?," Korra asked still unsure.
Pema smiled as she looked towards the girl.
"Listen Korra, I don't claim to know your exact circumstances but... You do like Odyn, don't you?," Pema responded.
Korra briefly looked away in embarrassment and shyness.
"It's not that I... don't like him.. c-cause I do. But.. (sighs) I don't know, what if he thinks I'm weird for liking him as a man?," Korra said.
Pema smiled.
"You want to thank him for what he's done for you, but you don't want to ruin what you've built with him right?," Pema asked.
Korra nodded.
"Then, I don't think you need to worry Korra. I'm willing to believe that young man, Odyn actually really likes you too. Even if he doesn't come right out and admit to that fact yet." Pema said in encouragement.
Korra then smiled towards Pema.
"Thank you, Pema. I'll give it a shot. I'll tell Odyn how I really feel about him.," Korra said smiling.
She then walked off as Pema smiled.
"Goodness, that girl. I do hope you're ready for what our young Avatar has to tell you, Odyn.," Pema thought with a small chuckle.
Time Skip: Pro Bending Arena..
The commentator for the match was seen to be giving an introduction as people gathered inside of the arena to cheer on the pro benders.
"Folks, after a year of waiting the Pro-bending Championship is finally here. Tonight is the first set of matches in our single elimination sixteen team bracket. And I gotta tell ya, these are the most tenacious and talented bending trios this arena has ever seen."
People are seen to be cheering in support of their favorite sport. The ring announcer then speaks up as he introduced the competitors.
"Introducing our first team, the Future Industries Fire Ferrets!"
The crowd cheers for the fan favorites. Korra is seen to be waving to the crowd before she spots Odyn, watching from the balcony off to the side. She smiles and waves to him. The dark elf simple smiles and waves back to her. Beside Odyn, are his sister, Sarai, his brother Roy, and his cousin Khanna as they take in the match as well.
"So you decided to come watch her compete after all, didn't you brother?", Sarai asked with a smug grin on her face.
"Yeah, I did. What of it?," Odyn asked.
Roy looked towards his brother.
"I think you value having Korra around more than you realize, brother.," Roy said.
Odyn coughed, clearing his throat as his siblings noticed that there was clearly a noticeable blush on his face.
"Ahem! Don't be ridiculous, it's nothing like that.," Odyn said trying to deny it.
Khanna then was seen smirking at him.
" 😏 hmmm? You don't sound very convincing there, Odyn. You like Korra, don't you?," Khanna asked with a sly smirk on her face.
Odyn gritted his teeth. He hated it when Khanna and his siblings were right. That was especially true about something like this. Though, he did have to begrudgingly admit that they did have a point. It was oddly comforting having Korra around himself. And... he'd be lying to himself if he said that he didn't feel anything for the avatar. Truth was, he did! Though he wouldn't admit it to others, there was... a sort of "special" connection that himself and Korra shared ever since the incident with Amon on Avatar Aang Memorial Island.
It was almost as though he could tell what she was thinking, or feel what she was feeling at a given moment. He wasn't consciously aware of it, but at some point.. that kind of connection between them occurred since that night. And... he didn't view her in the same way that he did previously.
"What is happening to me?! I never felt this way about her before!"Odyn thought to himself.
The elves kept quiet while they watched the match, Sarai and Khanna stealing glances at Odyn every so often ad the match continued.
"And their opponents: The Red Sands Rabaroos!" The Ring announcer said.
The match began soon after that.
"What an explosive opening volley. Both teams quickly recover and unleash a barrage of bending. I am astonished with the level of improvement displayed here by the Fire Ferrets. "
"No wonder the Avatar has been absent from the papers lately. She's obviously had her nose to the grindstone in the gym. The Ferrets advance into Rabaroo territory and are holding nothing back. Nice sprawl there by Mako. Bolin strikes, Ula dodges, and all three Rabaroos are down. The Fire Ferrets easily take round one!"
"Round two!" The ring announcer called out.
The booth announcer than continues his color commentary on the match, play by play.
"The Rabaroos are looking for payback and they go straight after Bolin."
The other benders try and corner Bolin, only to have Korra bend water as she comes to his defense. At the same time, she smacks one of the other benders away into his own zone with a well timed water whip.
"Korra comes to his defense and she water-whacks Umi back into zone two! The Ferrets are on fire tonight and they win round two."
"Round Three!" The ring announcer said.
"With the Rabaroos down two rounds they'll need a knockout to win, and with the way the Fire Ferrets are playing I don't see that happening."
The trio of Mako, Bolin, and Korra were aggressively pushing their opponents back with their respective elements, not even giving them a chance to fight back. The teamwork of these three was far too formiddable at that moment.
"These Ferrets are working together like a well-oiled bending machine. Bolin passes Adi back into zone two and the Ferrets get the green light to advance. The Rabaroos are just fighting to stay at their feet at this point. Out goes Adi, and Ula, and Umi!"
The trio of Korra, Mako, and Bolin pushed their opponents to the edge before knocking them into the water below them. A cheer of applause erupting from the stadium in response.
"All three rounds go to the Future Industries Fire Ferrets to win the opening match of the tournament!" The ring announcer proclaimed.
The trio were seen to be celebrating their win as Bolin fist pumps in excitement.
"That's what I'm talking about! (Waves to the audience) Thank you, thank you very much! Thank you all you fans!" Bolin says excited.
The scene transitions to the locker room as the trio are seen to be changing out of their pro bending gear and back into their normal clothing. (Ps.- they're just taking off the armor and pads. They have their normal clothes on underneath lol)
"Wow, we were really connecting out there in that ring." Mako said.
Odyn, Sarai, and Khanna then come in to congradulate them on their win.
A/N: I will deviate from the original episode simply becaise the dynamic between Mako and Korra is different with Odyn and the other dark elves in the picture.
"Congradulations you guys.," Odyn said.
Korra turned and smiled as she saw Odyn.
"Odyn! (She goes and hugs him, much to the surprise of the others in the room) It's all thanks to your help with our training." Korra said as she briefly pulled away from him.
Asami walks into the room with Pabu on her shoulder as she then kisses Mako on the cheek.
" Congradulations, guys! You were amazing out there.," Asami said.
Sarai then smiles at Bolin as she had her hands clasped behind her back.
"You were incredible out there, mr Bolin!," Sarai said happily.
Bolin rubbed the back of his head sheepishly and grinned.
"Oh w-well uh you know, heh heh heh!," Bolin responded a bit nervously.
Korra then looks to Odyn again, a smile beaming on her face.
"Thank you for your help, Odyn. I.. I doubt I would've come this far without you.", Korra said.
Odyn couldn't help but to smirk at her.
"Most of that was due to your incredible hard work, Korra. When you set your mind towards something, nothing can stop you. I simply provided you a helping hand on the way.," Odyn told her.
He continued.
"The way in which you were connecting in sync with your teammates out there in the ring was magnificent."
Korra nodded and felt herself blush.
"Y-Yeah, you really think so?," Korra asked hopeful.
Odyn nodded.
"I know so.," He said.
"Well, I feel like you and I have been connecting alot too lately."
Odyn was a little unsure where this conversation was going, so he played along.
"uh sure."
"So... you know I was thinking we should spend some time together.," Korra said.
Odyn raised a curious eyebrow towards the avatar.
"Um.. haven't we been spending alot of time together recently.. already?", Odyn asked confused.
"True, we have.. But I mean outside of training on the island, or in the gym, or searching for lost family members and fighting off the chi blockers..."
Odyn had a feeling that he knew where this coversation was going, but he just had to be sure.
"What are you getting at, Korra? What are you trying to say?", The dark elf asked.
Korra felt the nervousness creeping up, so she quickly just told him what she was feeling.
"Look Odyn, I LIKE YOU, and uh... I think we were meant for each other!," Korra abruptly blurted out.
Odyn's eyes widened in shock, Korra... liked him? And she liked him as a man?
Korra quickly turns away from him and hides her face with her arm as she is seen to be blushing rather hard.
Mako and Bolin both couldn't believe what they heard and were in total shock. Sarai spoke up as they still had some time before the next match.
"Whew, get a room you two!"
"Sis..." Odyn glowered annoyed at her.
The lavender heaired girl giggled in response as Odyn took Korra by the hand as they excused themselves.
"Sorry guys we'll uh.. be right back. " Odyn said.
"Take your time you two!," Sarai snickered.
Odyn was silent for the time he led Korra by the hand. Korra was afraid she'd messed up. Did she wait too long? Was He mad? Did he.. not feel the way about her that she felt about him? These were all questions racing through her mind as the object of her growing affection had stayed silent the entire time up until this point. Korra was silent too. What did his silence mean? They finally managed to to stop just outside of the arena and overlooking the docks. Odyn let out a deep breath he didn't know he was holding. He walked about a few feet away from her before approaching her again, this time forcing her to look at him.
"Alright... Korra, what did you mean by- mphfffrf!," Odyn started to ask her only for Korra to suddenly kiss him on the lips.
Although surprised, he relaxed into the gesture, figuring it would be more beneficial to satisfy her first. That way he could calm her down and figure out what this was about. It was a moment later, when the two finally separated, now calmer and in their right mind.
Odyn looked at Korra in the eyes... those beautiful blue orbs of hers, shaking his head before he entered a trance. He then spoke up.
"Listen to me Korra, I'm not mad at you. Surpised maybe, but I could never be mad at you, so let's just get that straight first. Tell me, what's this about?," Odyn asked.
That lifted a weight off Korra's shoulders, she was glad he wasn't mad at her. She felt herself relax and calmly told Odyn her truest feelings.
"Odyn... I-I meant what I said back there. Every time I think about you my heart aches and... I get excited when we spend time together. Whether that's training on the island, going for a walk in the city together, or even like we are now, just talking... Ever since you saved me I... just can't get you out of my head. I.. really do like you Odyn and I really do think we are meant for each other. So... uh.. what do you think?," Korra told him slightly blushing.
It took him a minute to process what he would say, but deep down,he already knew what his answer to Korra's romantic feelings for him was. He just wanted to be sure Korra was prepared for what would come with having a romantic relationship with a dark elf, those labeled as 'forsaken' by the general public.
"Let me ask you this Korra: You do know what having such a relationship with a dark elf means, don't you?", Odyn started before continuing. "You'd be subjected to possible death threats, asassination attempts, verbal slander from the general citizenry as they don't look upon us dark elves favorably, and your reputation as The Avatar may come into question, possibly being ridiculed for it."
Korra looked at him with her deep blue eyes and held his face.
"Odyn, I could care less what others think of you. How could I ever turn my back on the man who not only saved my life, but also... the man I love?,"Korra asked him.
Odyn's eyes widened again. He then chuckled lightly. It was ironic. He hated humans and yet... Korra had completely changed his opinion of them. Sure, they were flawed, but humans as well as dark elves were good people. He had his answer.
The dark elf accepted Korra's gesture, a sign to her that they had an understanding between them.
"I don't know how to yet, but.. yes Korra, I like you too. Could you... teach this dark elf how to show his love to his girlfriend, the Avatar?,"Odyn asked.
"Odyn... I.. Yes! I'd be happy to!," Korra smiled at him.
Odyn sighed, a weight lifted off of him.
"Now then, Korra... I believe I need to return this to you.,"Odyn said.
"Huh? Return wha-mpphhfff??!!,"Korra started to ask but was interrupted mid sentence.
Korra was confused when Odyn suddenly steadied his hand on her back as he pulled her in and kissed her! Korra was so shocked that her eyes were still wide open, but she eventually relaxed into it and kissed Odyn back as she embraced him. After a long moment, the two pulled away from one another.
"Does that answer your earlier question, Korra?," Odyn asked his face mere inches from hers.
Korra just nodded as she hadn't really processed what just happened. Realizing that she needed to get back, Odyn offered to walk her back which she silently agreed to. It was very quiet on the way back between them, neither one of them saying a word. Odyn just silently offered to hold Korra's hand, which she gladly accepted as the two continued to walk back.
Time skip: a little while later...
Odyn and Korra arrived back at the the pro bending arena about 30 minutes later. And to the surprise of Mako, Bolin, and Asami who had joined the group while they were gone, Odyn and Korra were seen to be holding hands. And.. was that a blush Sarai saw on the avatar's face?
Clearly, something happened between them when they spoke and she was now curious to find out what exactly happened. The other teens eyes were wide in shock and surprise at the sudden development. Sarai and Khanna were secretly snickering, along with Roy who was smirking because they knew it was only a matter of time until something like this occurred between the two of them.
"Welcome back, brother. Did the two of you have a nice talk after Korra confessed to you?," Sarai asked snickering.
Odyn felt annoyed vain about to pop on his head, but sighed to calm himself down.
"Yes, we did. I'll let you all in on it a little later.,"Odyn said.
Sarai and Khanna could've pressed him further, but they were satisfied... for now at least. Korra made eye contact with two dark elven women and instantly knew that she'd be talking to them later about what happened between her and Odyn.
Bolin must've noticed Korra's awkward behavior towards Odyn, because he sighed in resignation. There went his chance with Korra, it seemed as if she was taken already. But, he couldn't be mad at who Korra seemingly chose because that person was Odyn, one of the two dark elves who had saved his life from Amon and the equalists. Besides... the two DID kinda deserve each other he figured silently sighing in defeat.
Mako had a bit of a puzzled look on his face when thinking about Odyn and Korra being together but, he figured it would work out. Sarai, seeing Bolin a little depressed as Odyn and Korra remained sitting together for the moment, sauntered over to him. She smiled with her hands folded behind her back as she then addressed the Earth Bender.
"So um... Mr Bolin?," She asked a little awkwardly not quite sure what to say after what just happened.
Bolin looked over and was a little startled at how close in proximity the lavender haired and pointed eared young woman was to him just then.
"Uh Y-yeah? W-What can I do for you, ms Sarai?,"Bolin asked a little nervous.
Sarai had a faint dusting of pink appear on her cheeks as she spoke up.
"Um.. well, I know it's not the same as going with Korra but.. Is the invite for dinner still open with you? I'd be willing to accopany you if you wanted.."
Bolin's eyes shot open comically as he answered her before he could fully process the words spilling forth from his mouth.
"Of course I don't mind! YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO come with."
Sarai giggled at this response before wrapping her hands around Bolin's free arm and smiling at him, sending the earth bender's heartbeat into overdrive as his face was beet red. This girl... she was just.. TOO CUTE!
The scene then transitions to Odyn and Korra surprisingly going to the same restaurant as Bolin and Sarai, resulting in the friends enjoying a "double date" at Narook's Seaweed Noodlery as they ate, Naga resting in front of the door.
Odyn looked confused at first, but upon trying the "strange" dish, he seemed to like the food based in Korra's homeland. Korra was slurping away, enjoying the food from her homeland, while Sarai smiled as she enjoyed the noodles she had ordered as well, bringing a smile to Bolin's face.
"So.. how do you like it?"
Bolin asked the question just to ensure his friends were enjoying themselves.
"This is amazing!" she exclaimed, somehow making even slurping noodles look graceful. "We don't have anything like this where we're from!"
Bolin beamed at her reaction, his earlier melancholy about Korra fading in the face of Sarai's genuine joy.
"Just wait until you try the deep-fried seal chips! They're my favorite part!"
"Oh! Can we order those too?" Sarai asked, her eyes sparkling with such pure delight that Bolin felt his face flush.
"O-of course! Anything you want!" he stammered, drawing a giggle from the dark elf that made his heart skip a beat.
Korra watched with barely contained amusement as Odyn cautiously approached his first bowl of authentic Water Tribe cuisine. The usually composed dark elf examined the unfamiliar dishes before him with an endearing mixture of curiosity and apprehension.
You're supposed to eat it, not study it," Korra teased, expertly wielding her chopsticks. Her heart fluttered when he looked up at her with those intense eyes of his, a slight smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.
"I'm simply ensuring I give your cultural cuisine the proper respect it deserves," he replied, finally taking his first bite. His eyes widened slightly - the only indication of his surprise at the pleasant flavors.
Across the table, Sarai was having a markedly different experience. The lavender-haired dark elf had practically bounced in her seat with excitement upon entering the restaurant, her enthusiasm matching Bolin's own energetic personality.
As the evening progressed, the initial awkwardness of their new dynamics began to melt away. Korra found herself repeatedly stealing glances at Odyn, still hardly believing that she'd actually confessed her feelings - and that he'd returned them. Every time their eyes met, she felt that same spark that had been growing between them since that night on Avatar Aang Memorial Island.
"You know," Korra said softly, during a moment when Bolin was enthusiastically explaining pro-bending rules to an attentive Sarai, "I never thought I'd end up here. With you, I mean."
Odyn set down his chopsticks, giving her his full attention. "Life has a way of surprising us," he replied, his voice equally quiet. "When I first came to Republic City, I never imagined I'd find myself caring so deeply for its Avatar."
Korra felt her cheeks warm at his words. "Is that what this is? Caring deeply?"
"It's... more than that," Odyn admitted, seeming to choose his words carefully. "You've changed something in me, Korra. The way I see humans, the way I see this city... the way I see myself."
Their conversation was interrupted by a burst of laughter from Sarai, who was attempting to use her chopsticks with limited success. Bolin, grinning widely, reached over to adjust her grip.
"Here, like this," he demonstrated, his hands lingering perhaps a moment longer than necessary over hers. Both of them blushed at the contact, but neither pulled away.
"Thank you," Sarai said softly, looking up at him through her lashes. "For everything. For making me feel so welcome here."
Bolin rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Well, you know, that's just... I mean, you're really... what I'm trying to say is..."
Yes?" Sarai prompted, tilting her head with an encouraging smile.
"You're really special!" Bolin blurted out, immediately turning red. "I mean, not that you didn't know that already, but I just wanted to say it, and now I'm rambling, and oh spirits, I should probably stop talking..."
Sarai's melodious laugh cut through his embarrassment. "You're special too, Bolin," she said, reaching across the table to squeeze his hand. "More than you know."
The noodle shop was exactly the kind of place that made Republic City special - small enough to feel intimate, but lively enough to carry the energy of the city. Odyn had managed to secure a corner booth for himself and Korra, while Sarai and Bolin settled into a nearby table that offered just enough privacy while still keeping them within her brother's watchful range.
"You planned this, didn't you?" Korra asked, watching as Odyn strategically positioned himself where he could keep an eye on his sister without being obvious about it.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," he replied with mock innocence, though his orange eyes sparkled with mischief. "I just happen to prefer corner booths with a good view of... the kitchen."
"Right, the kitchen. Which just happens to be past where your sister is sitting?"
Odyn's blue hair caught the warm light of the shop's lanterns as he leaned forward. "Can you blame me? Besides," he added softly, reaching for her hand across the table, "I also wanted somewhere a little private for our first real date."
At the other table, Bolin was in the middle of an animated story about his pro-bending career, but his eyes kept drifting to how the lantern light played off Sarai's lavender and silver streaked hair. She was laughing at all the right moments, but there was something in her expression that suggested she was more interested in the storyteller than the story.
"And that's when I realized," Bolin continued, his voice dropping slightly, "sometimes the best things in life aren't what you planned for at all. They just kind of... happen when you're not expecting them."
Sarai's breath caught slightly as their eyes met. "Like earthbending lessons?" she asked softly.
"Yeah, like..." Bolin started, his heart racing. The words were right there, everything he'd been wanting to say about how teaching her had become the highlight of his days, how her determination and quick wit had completely captured his attention, how her smile made him forget his own name sometimes. But then he looked around at the bustling noodle shop, at the waiter hurrying past with steaming bowls, at the loud group of customers near the entrance.
"Like earthbending lessons," he finished, mentally kicking himself. This wasn't the right place. When he told her how he felt - and it was definitely a when, not an if - it needed to be special. She deserved more than a confession over noodles, no matter how good they were.
In their corner, Korra and Odyn were sharing a moment of their own. She had demonstrated her noodle-eating prowess as promised, making Odyn laugh so hard he nearly choked on his own food.
"Careful there," Korra teased. "What would people say if I had to save the captain of the city guard from death by noodles?"
"They'd say I died happy," Odyn replied, his thumb tracing circles on her hand. "Besides, there are worse ways to go than laughing with you."
From their vantage point, they could see Bolin struggling with something, his usual confidence replaced by an endearing nervousness.
"Ten yuans says he almost confessed just now," Korra whispered to Odyn.
"No bet," Odyn replied, watching his sister's expression soften as she looked at Bolin. "I know that look. Our family isn't exactly subtle when it comes to feelings."
"Oh really?" Korra raised an eyebrow. "Is that why it took you so long to tell me how you felt?"
Odyn's dark skin couldn't quite hide his blush. "That was... different. You're intimidating!"
"Me? Intimidating?" Korra put on her most innocent expression, which lasted about two seconds before they both burst out laughing.
Back at their table, Sarai was trying not to show her disappointment at Bolin's unfinished thought. She could feel her brother's attention from the corner booth and appreciated the space he was giving them while still keeping watch. It was so typically Odyn - protective but respectful, just like their older brother had taught them.
"You know," Bolin said suddenly, his voice quiet enough that only she could hear, "there's this really nice spot in Avatar Korra Park where you can see the whole city. Maybe... maybe after our next training session, we could go there? Just to talk?"
Sarai's heart skipped a beat as she understood what he wasn't saying. "I'd like that," she replied, her smile carrying all the words they weren't quite ready to share in the noodle shop.
In their corner, Odyn relaxed slightly, satisfied that his sister was in good hands. As he turned his attention back to Korra, he found her watching him with a soft expression.
"What?" he asked.
"Nothing," she smiled. "I just like seeing this side of you. The caring brother, the protective captain, the guy who plans the perfect first date at a noodle shop because he knows it's exactly what I'd love."
"Perfect, huh?"
"Well," Korra leaned forward with a mischievous glint in her eye, "it will be after you let me order those spicy fire dumplings for dessert."
The afternoon light filtered through the shop's windows, casting warm shadows across the two tables where two relationships - one blossoming into its first sweet moments, the other gathering courage for its beginning - continued to grow, one shared meal at a time.
Kwong's Cuisine had always been a testament to Republic City's elegance, but today it felt different to Mako. The familiar luxury that had once made him self-conscious now seemed to mirror the delicate situation they found themselves in. Asami had orchestrated their seating with characteristic grace - a private booth nestled in a quiet corner, partially screened by ornate wooden panels.
"I'll get us some tea," Khanna offered, clearly trying to give them a moment alone, but Asami gently caught her wrist.
"Stay," she said softly. "That's why I invited you, after all."
Mako looked between them, his amber eyes reflecting confusion and a hint of guilt. "Asami, I..."
"Let me speak first," Asami interjected, her voice gentle but firm. She reached across the table, taking one of Mako's hands in hers. "I've seen the way you look at her, Mako. And I've seen the way you try not to."
Khanna stiffened slightly, her usual composure wavering. "Asami, I would never-"
"I know," Asami smiled, turning to the dark elf. "That's exactly why we're here. Your respect for our relationship, your determination to keep your distance... it only made me more certain about this conversation."
"What conversation is that?" Mako asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Asami took a deep breath, her green eyes clear and determined. "The one where I tell you both that it's okay. That sometimes feelings develop in unexpected ways, and trying to ignore them doesn't make them go away. It just makes everyone miserable."
"I don't understand," Mako said, though his expression suggested otherwise. "Are you... breaking up with me?"
"No," Asami replied, then paused thoughtfully. "Well, not exactly. I'm suggesting something different. Something that requires a lot of trust and honesty from all of us."
Khanna's eyes widened slightly as understanding dawned. "Asami, are you suggesting..."
"That we explore this connection between all of us? Yes." Asami's voice was steady, though a slight flush colored her cheeks. "I've given this a lot of thought. I care deeply for you, Mako. And I've come to admire Khanna's strength, her integrity, and yes, even the way she makes you smile when you think no one's looking."
The silence that followed was heavy with possibility. Mako looked stunned, his eyes darting between the two women as if seeing them in a new light.
"But what about you?" he finally asked Asami. "This isn't just about making things easier for me."
A small, mysterious smile played at Asami's lips. "Who says I haven't developed my own appreciation for Khanna's qualities?"
Khanna, who had maintained her composure through pro-bending matches and city guard duties, found herself blushing for perhaps the first time in years. "This is... unexpected."
"The best things usually are," Asami replied, echoing words similar to those being spoken across town in a certain noodle shop. "I'm not saying it would be easy. We'd need to communicate, to be honest about our feelings, to set boundaries. But I think we owe it to ourselves to at least consider the possibility."
"And you're truly comfortable with this?" Khanna asked, her voice soft but intense.
"I'm comfortable with exploring it," Asami clarified. "Together. Slowly. With both of you."
Mako's expression shifted from confusion to cautious hope. "I never thought... I mean, I tried so hard not to feel..."
"I know," Asami squeezed his hand. "That's part of why I love you. And it's part of why I think this could work."
The arrival of their tea provided a moment for all three to collect their thoughts. Steam rose from the delicate cups, much like the possibilities rising before them.
"So," Asami said after taking a sip of her tea, "shall we order lunch and talk about how this might work?"
Khanna's usual confident smile slowly returned, though softened by vulnerability. "I believe that would be wise."
Mako looked at both women with a mix of amazement and gratitude. "I don't deserve either of you," he said quietly.
"Good thing this isn't about deserving," Asami replied with a gentle smile. "It's about choosing. And I choose to explore this possibility with both of you."
The afternoon light filtered through Kwong's ornate windows, casting a warm glow over their booth as three people began the delicate process of reimagining what love could look like.
At Kwong's, their first course arrived - an elegant spread of dumplings and small plates that seemed to mirror the delicate nature of their conversation.
"I have questions," Khanna said, her composure returning as she gracefully picked up her chopsticks. "About boundaries, expectations..."
"We all do," Asami replied warmly. "That's good. We should discuss them."
Mako watched as both women began to talk, their natural intelligence and pragmatism approaching this unconventional situation with remarkable clarity. "How long have you been thinking about this?" he asked Asami.
"Since I first noticed how Khanna looked at you - and more importantly, how she deliberately looked away." Asami's smile was knowing. "It reminded me of how you used to look at Korra, but this was different. There was no conflict, no confusion. Just... respect. And maybe a little longing."
Khanna's dark skin couldn't hide her blush this time. "I never meant to be so transparent."
"You weren't," Asami assured her. "I'm just good at reading people. And what I read in both of you was something worth exploring."
"But what about you?" Mako pressed again. "You keep talking about what you saw in us, but..."
"But what about my feelings?" Asami finished. She turned to Khanna, her expression open and honest. "Would you believe me if I said watching you train with the city guard was what first caught my attention? Your focus, your discipline, the way you move like you're dancing with your opponent instead of fighting them..."
---
Meanwhile, across the city, Tenzin's family was making their way through the historical district with Roy as their impromptu guide. Ikki had managed to position herself next to him for what felt like the hundredth time, hanging on his every word as he explained the significance of an ancient fountain.
"The craftsmanship here actually predates the Hundred Year War," Roy explained, his orange eyes bright with enthusiasm for the city's history. "You can see the original waterbending influences in the-"
"It's so amazing how you know all this!" Ikki sighed dreamily, floating slightly off the ground in her excitement. "You must study so much history!"
Behind them, Pema nudged Tenzin gently. "Should we say something?" she whispered, watching as their daughter practically glowed every time Roy smiled.
"About what?" Tenzin asked, then caught his wife's meaningful look. "Oh. Oh! You mean... but surely Roy must notice..."
Jinora, walking alongside her parents, tried to stifle a laugh. "Dad, I think Roy's the only one who doesn't notice. Even Meelo figured it out."
"Yeah!" Meelo chimed in. "Ikki's got the looooove bug!" He made exaggerated kissing noises until Jinora shushed him.
Up ahead, Roy was completely oblivious to the family discussion, focused instead on pointing out architectural details. "The integration of all four nations' styles really showcases Republic City's founding principles of unity-"
"Unity is so important!" Ikki jumped in, trying to sound mature. "Do you think that's why you became captain of the city guard? To help maintain that unity?"
"That was part of it," Roy nodded thoughtfully, missing completely how Ikki beamed at his response. "Though honestly, it was more about protecting people. My siblings and I, we've always felt drawn to that."
"That's so noble," Ikki sighed, floating a little higher before catching herself.
Pema couldn't help but smile. "She reminds me of someone else who used to get starry-eyed around a certain person," she whispered to Tenzin, who tugged at his collar self-consciously.
"Yes, well," he coughed. "Perhaps we should... that is... should I have a word with Roy?"
"Let's give it time," Pema suggested wisely. "Ikki's young, and Roy's... well, he's being very proper about not noticing. I think he knows she's too young right now and is handling it with remarkable grace."
"Did you know," Roy was saying to Ikki, skillfully redirecting her obvious admiration into educational moments, "that this particular stone was carved by both earth and airbenders working together?"
"Really?" Ikki's eyes sparkled. "Maybe... maybe someday you could tell me more about how the city guard works with all the different bending styles? You know, for my... cultural studies?"
Jinora rolled her eyes fondly at her sister's transparent attempt. "Subtle, Ikki. Real subtle."
At Kwong's, their main course arrived as the conversation deepened. Asami took a thoughtful sip of her tea before continuing.
"I think we should establish clear communication protocols first," she said. "No hiding feelings, no assumptions. If anyone feels uncomfortable, we speak up immediately."
Khanna nodded, her usual tactical mind engaging with the problem. "And public interactions? I assume discretion would be wise, at least initially."
"I don't want either of you to feel like a secret," Mako interjected, surprising himself with his certainty. "But yes, we should be mindful of how we present this to others."
"Speaking of others," Asami added gently, "Khanna, you should know that while Mako and I have an established relationship, we both want you to feel equally valued. This isn't about adding you to what exists - it's about creating something new, together."
"I... appreciate that," Khanna replied, her composed demeanor softening. "Though I admit, this is far from what I expected when you invited me to lunch."
---
Across town in the historical district, Roy was demonstrating proper city guard stances to an enthralled Ikki, while Jinora pretended not to notice her sister's exaggerated attention.
"The key is maintaining balance while staying mobile," Roy explained, his cerulean blue and lavender hair catching the sunlight. "Much like airbending, actually."
"Oh! Oh! I could show you some airbending moves!" Ikki volunteered immediately. "You know, for... comparative analysis?"
"That would be most educational," Roy replied formally, though his orange eyes twinkled with gentle amusement.
Pema leaned towards Tenzin. "He handles her crush very gracefully, doesn't he?"
"Indeed," Tenzin stroked his beard thoughtfully. "Rather like how Lin used to handle Bumi's obvious infatuation with her."
"Dad!" Jinora hissed, mortified on her uncle's behalf, while Meelo made gagging noises.
---
Meanwhile, at the noodle shop, Korra and Odyn had moved closer together in their booth, their empty bowls pushed aside.
"So," Korra grinned, "was watching your sister flirt with Bolin part of your perfect first date plan?"
Odyn groaned softly. "I'm trying very hard not to watch, actually. Though..." he glanced over briefly, "they are kind of adorable."
At the other table, Bolin was demonstrating something with the chopsticks that had Sarai laughing, her silver hair shimmering as she leaned forward.
"You know," Sarai was saying, "for someone who's so confident in the pro-bending arena, you get surprisingly nervous sometimes."
Bolin's chopsticks fumbled. "I, uh... only around people who matter."
Their eyes met, and for a moment, the busy noodle shop seemed to fade away. Then a waiter dropped a tray nearby, breaking the spell.
"So," Bolin cleared his throat, "about that walk in the park later..."
---
Back at Kwong's, Asami was outlining more specific points.
"We should have regular check-ins, both as a group and individually," she suggested. "And we need to be clear about time management and expectations."
"And physical boundaries?" Khanna asked carefully.
"We take that slowly," Mako said firmly. "No pressure, no expectations. We figure it out together."
Asami reached out, taking one of each of their hands. "Exactly. This only works if we're all comfortable. Every step of the way."
---
"And this," Roy was explaining to an increasingly starry-eyed Ikki, "is where the first peace accord was signed after the Hundred Year War."
"Amazing," Ikki sighed, though she was clearly more interested in how the sunlight played off Roy's dark elven features than the historical significance.
"Perhaps," Pema suggested gently, "Ikki could help the city guard organize some cultural exchange events with the Air Acolytes? When she's older, of course."
"That would be most beneficial," Roy agreed formally, while Ikki practically glowed at the future prospect.
---
"Okay, I have to know," Korra whispered to Odyn, "how long do you think it'll take Bolin to actually confess?"
Odyn watched as his sister unsuccessfully tried to hide another blush at something Bolin said. "At this rate? We might need to lock them in the pro-bending gym."
"Don't tempt me," Korra grinned, then softened as she looked at him. "Thank you, by the way."
"For what?"
"For being you. For this perfect first date, overprotective brother watching and all."
Odyn's response was to pull her closer, both of them content in their corner of the busy noodle shop, while across the room, his sister and Bolin continued their dance of almost-confessions and meaningful glances.
The afternoon sun continued its journey across Republic City, illuminating three very different scenes: a sophisticated restaurant where three people redefined their understanding of love, a historical tour where a young airbender's crush was met with gentle grace, and a humble noodle shop where two couples at different stages of their relationships found their own perfect moments in the chaos of life.
