Chapter 48: Saving The Hero! (Final)
Moments later, Tristan emerged from his storage space and found Thoran and Rowen leaning against the rubble, catching their breath.
"Are you both ready to leave?" Tristan asked.
Thoran straightened up and replied, "Yeah, ready. Where are we headed?"
Rowen chimed in, "I'm good to go. I've had enough of being underground."
"I'm heading back to the Roussanne residence," Tristan said. "What about you uncle Thoran?"
Thoran scratched his head. "I'll go wherever you go. You're my boss now, after all."
"What about your men in that abandoned building?" Tristan asked, raising an eyebrow.
Thoran thought for a moment before shrugging. "Hmm, I'll appoint that blindfolded guard as the temporary boss until we return."
"Sure, whatever works for you," Tristan replied casually.
The three of them began making their way out. As they approached the heavy iron door, Rowen paused and frowned. "By the way, why didn't any of that woman's underlings come to her aid?"
He glanced around and froze, his eyes landing on the lifeless bodies of guards strewn across the floor.
"Looks like that answers your question," Thoran said dryly, smirking.
Rowen's face grew pale as he whispered to himself, "I have no idea how strong this kid really is, but one thing's for sure, he's probably just a step below the dukes and their elite knights."
The group exited the sewer and emerged into the city. The streets were in chaos, with people shouting and running in every direction.
"What's going on here?" Thoran asked one of his subordinates stationed nearby.
"Ah, Boss! There was an explosion here earlier," the subordinate replied.
"Don't worry about it, Uncle," Tristan interjected with a faint smile. "I set that trap earlier. Let's head back to your base for now."
Thoran could only shake his head in amazement at Tristan's foresight, silently praising the boy's strategic mind.
Once they reached Thoran's base, they each went to their respective rooms to rest.
Before heading to his, Tristan stopped and said, "Uncle, I'll be heading into my storage space for a while to tend to my friend."
"Alright," Rowen replied, waving him off.
Without another word, Tristan disappeared into the portal leading to his storage space.
Inside his storage space, Tristan glanced at Cheryl, still sound asleep. Her wounds had completely healed, thanks to the high-grade healing potion he had given her. Satisfied, he turned his attention to a specially designed room, one he had built to contain Elza.
Inside, Elza was awake and writhing against the restraints binding her. She glared at Tristan as he entered.
"What did you do to my body, boy? Why can't I use my mana?" she demanded.
Tristan's expression was calm, almost disinterested. "I disrupted the mana flow within your body. Any attempt to gather mana now results in it scattering before you can cast a spell." He stepped closer, his tone growing colder. "Enough pleasantries."
His gaze turned sharp and piercing, chilling Elza to her core. She shivered, instinctively falling silent under the weight of his eyes.
"First question," Tristan said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. "Where is your main base?"
Elza sneered. "Hmph, you think I'll—"
Before she could finish, Tristan drove a dagger into the sole of her foot.
"Arghhh!" Elza screamed in pain, her defiance wavering.
"I'll repeat myself. Where is your main base?"
"You think this will—"
Tristan stabbed her other foot without waiting for her response, silencing her bravado. With methodical precision, he began slicing at her legs, starting from her toes and working his way to her knees. Elza's screams echoed through the room, but Tristan's expression remained unchanged.
After a while, he left the room briefly to check on Cheryl, ensuring she was still resting peacefully. Then, he returned to Elza's chamber.
Without a word, Tristan severed one of Elza's ankles and placed it beside her head. He immediately cauterized the wound with a flicker of mana, sending another wave of agony through her body.
Elza writhed and screamed, tears streaming down her face. Tristan calmly raised his knife toward her other ankle, his movements precise and deliberate.
"Wait! I'll talk! Please stop!" Elza cried out, her voice breaking.
Tristan's eyes remained cold as ice. "First question. Where is your main base?"
"Our... our main bases are spread across the dukes' territories and the capital!" Elza stammered.
"Details," Tristan demanded, his tone unyielding.
"I-I don't know! Only the members of each base know their locations. We're forbidden from sharing them with each other!" Elza pleaded, panic evident in her voice.
Tristan stared at her in silence, his gaze unrelenting.
"I'm telling the truth! I swear!" Elza added desperately, trembling under his scrutiny.
"Second question," Tristan continued. "The nobles involved with your group in Brighthold, list all of them. And be thorough."
Elza hesitated, then confessed, "All the nobles in this city are under my control. Even the city's ruler is my subordinate, he's from the Lavindra family, one of our elites. He has the ability to transform."
Tristan's expression darkened further. His icy gaze sent shivers down Elza's spine.
Seeing his dissatisfaction, Elza added quickly, "The ruler... we've locked him in his own dungeon, and his child, we've already used them as material for creating a Chimera."
Tristan's voice was steady but sharp as he asked, "Third question. What were you planning to do with the Hero?"
Elza hesitated, her face pale as she answered, "W-We were planning to summon the Demon God… by sacrificing the Hero."
Tristan's expression remained unreadable. "Where is the ritual supposed to take place?"
"In the Demon King's territory," Elza stammered. "The heart of the cursed Netherbane Forest."
"Fourth question," Tristan continued, his tone unwavering. "Who is involved in the Ciyane family conspiracy?"
Elza's eyes flickered with hesitation, her thoughts racing. "Why would he care about the Ciyane family's affairs?"
Her delay didn't go unnoticed. Tristan silently raised his knife, his cold gaze piercing her.
"Wait! Please, wait!" Elza blurted out in panic.
Tristan paused, his expression unchanged, waiting for her response.
"I-I don't know the full details," Elza confessed hastily. "But one of the key players is Mortis Lavindra, the youngest son of Duke Lavindra and captain of The Darkguard, one of the Lavindra family's elite forces. They call him The Death Tamer."
Tristan's gaze sharpened. "Are all members of the Lavindra family part of the Demon God cult?"
Elza shook her head weakly. "N-No, not all of them. Only a few high-ranking members from certain Marquess and Count families are involved."
"Final question," Tristan said, his tone colder than ever. "Why were you gathering so many monsters in the cave?"
Elza, too frightened to hesitate this time, immediately answered, "We planned to attack Duke Crimsenne's domain. The idea was to take over everything under his control to divert the royal family's attention, creating an opening for us to infiltrate their territory."
The moment Elza finished speaking, Tristan moved. His blade flashed through the air, slicing her head cleanly in two.
Blood splattered across the room as Elza's lifeless body slumped. Tristan stood over her remains, his face devoid of emotion. With a flick of his wrist, flames erupted from his hand, engulfing the body in a fiery blaze until nothing but ash remained.
Without another word, Tristan exited the chamber, briefly checking on Cheryl, who was still peacefully asleep. He let out a small sigh of relief before leaving his storage space entirely.
Back in his room, Tristan collapsed onto his bed, exhaustion finally catching up with him. He closed his eyes, letting the events of the day fade into darkness as sleep claimed him.
