Chapter 12: Chapter 11: The Fury of Two Kings
[3rd POV]
Kiritsugu Emiya calmed his emotions and cleared his mind. He lightly touched the trigger and waited for Maiya to take her shot.
While waiting patiently, he heard Iskandar's loud mockery but ignored it.
He was a killer without emotion, and no external factors could make him hesitate.
"Those rats spying on us, open your eyes and look!"
Iskandar pointed to the destroyed books in the library.
"This is a treasure trove, carrying the crystallization of human wisdom, and it is a treasure that scholars have been tirelessly seeking over millennia!"
He mockingly shouted into the dark night.
"And yet, you have destroyed all this knowledge..."
Iskandar's voice was filled with anger, but there was also deep dissatisfaction with the other participants in the Holy Grail War.
"You, as part of a legend, have utterly disregarded your own honor and done something so shamelessly!"
He really wanted to gather these Servants participating in the Holy Grail War and invite them to share the fun of conquering the world together.
After all, the Holy Grail summoned only Heroic Spirits who were the souls of the legendary heroes from myths and history.
"Just yesterday, I witnessed a battle between knights..."
Iskandar spoke with righteous anger, "They are the true heroes! I once thought all heroic spirits were famous figures in history, but now, I realize... there are such shameless individuals in this Holy Grail War!"
He had been moved by something he had seen the previous night.
He both saw Saber, who willingly gave up her advantage in direct combat to protect her Master, allowing Assassin to leave the battlefield.
The other was Assassin, who not only didn't strike from the shadows with a poisoned blade but instead challenged all the other Servants like a knight!
Iskandar greatly admired his courage.
He was eager to recruit these two people to join his army and help them conquer the world.
If not for Waver clinging to his waist and crying, he would have revealed himself long ago.
However, he had been the victim of a particularly sneaky attack today which made him realize that not all Servants possessed a pure heart.
There is a sinister, cunning, and shameless individual who has set a trap here, and the target is obviously his Master, Waver.
"Those who lurk in the shadows and spy on this place, shouldn't you not feel any shame at this moment?"
No one responded.
He threw his hands up and climbed back onto his chariot, throwing one last angry remark: "You have dishonor the name of the Heroic Spirits!"
"Treasure trove? How about those women?!"
A golden flash accompanied the appearance of Gilgamesh, standing on street lights that the explosion had damaged.
He was the only Servant who responded to Iskandar's taunts in the middle of the night.
"A pile of scrap metal like this dares to call itself a treasure trove?"
Gilgamesh's words were vicious, "It's really ridiculous!"
"I have read the collections of this library."
Iskandar retorted, "It is a compilation of masterpieces collected over thousands of years. Why can't it be called a treasure trove?!"
"You clearly know that this is knowledge compiled over a thousand years, yet you don't even bother to cherish it."
Gilgamesh said with a look of dissatisfaction, even feeling angry because of his words.
"A small building that could be so easily destroyed dares to call itself a treasure trove? You're nothing more than a mongrel who came out of an unknown and still dares to call yourself a king!"
"You're right."
Iskandar paused for a moment before asking, "So, was it you who sneak attacked this king?"
"Sneak attacked? You mongrel dare speak to a king like that?"
Iskandar's words were like pouring oil on a fire.
Gilgamesh, already in a bad mood, raised his head arrogantly and sneered, "A worthless piece of trash, who not only dares to call himself king but even tries to accuse me, die!"
The golden gates opened behind him, and countless Noble Phantasms appeared from inside.
These glowing weapons shimmered with golden light, trembling as if they were charging up with energy for a powerful attack.
The air fell completely silent.
While these Noble Phantasms surprised Iskandar, they weren't enough to scare him.
Iskandar's sharp, eagle-like eyes showed no fear, staring straight at Gilgamesh.
Even though they were deep in the middle of Fuyuki City, a faint haze of golden dust, like sand, began to rise around them…
"Bang! Bang!"
Just as both sides were about to reveal their trump cards, two gunshots abruptly shattered the tense silence.
After seeing two Servants present, Kiritsugu Emiya had no intention of stopping.
He didn't give Maiya any order to hold fire, and they pulled their triggers one after the other.
The first shot was aimed directly at the inside of his chariot. Judging by the trajectory of the bullet, the bullet was clearly targeting Waver's head.
However… before the bullet could reach Waver, it was deflected by the protective barrier on the chariot.
Without even realizing it, Waver had just taken another step back from the gates of death and came out unscathed.
The second shot was fired by Kiritsugu.
As the bullet was about to hit Assassin, he raised his sword and split the bullet in half!
"Maiya, what's the situation?"
Kiritsugu asked.
"Failed."
Maiya replied, "Rider's chariot has a protective barrier, and regular bullets can be blocked."
"Understood."
Although the assassination attempt failed, Kiritsugu had gathered useful information about Rider's chariot.
'It seems that the assassination will have to avoid the chariot next time.'
Kiritsugu lit a cigarette and quickly and decisively retreated.
"I'm retreating. It seems like Assassin has no intention of chasing me."
Maiya sent a message quickly before immediately cutting off the communication and disappearing into the sewer.
She was afraid because Kiritsugu's shot had barely delayed Assassin for a second!
Kiritsugu's planned attack didn't work, but it did expose Assassin's presence.
At this moment, Iskandar shifted his gaze towards Assassin. While Archer also turned his attention in that direction, his fury followed closely behind.
At that moment, Iskandar, focused on the standoff, shifted his gaze to Assassin.
Gilgamesh was also shifting his focus and bringing his anger with him.
"So it's just some random rat…"
With a dull thud, Gilgamesh crushed the streetlight underfoot.
"Who gave you the right to look down on my body from the shadows?"
He said arrogantly.
"Let your broken body serve as an apology!"
Gilgamesh didn't even bother to raise his head to look at Assassin, and his Noble Phantasms from his "Gate of Babylon" slightly tilted upwards, aiming directly at Assassin...
To be continued...
