Chapter 8: Ser-Veresta
Ark had never worried about whether he could pass the Orga Lux suitability test.
With the highest authority over weapons, no matter which Orga Lux he chose, Ark was fully confident that he could pass the suitability test. The only issue was which Orga Lux to choose as his initial exclusive weapon.
This was where Ark began to hesitate.
Looking at the images of the Orga Lux displayed before him, Ark still couldn't make a decision.
"Since we have to choose, of course, we should choose the best."
Without exception, Orga Lux are far more powerful than ordinary Lux, but there is also a gap between Orga Lux and Orga Lux.
Setting aside issues like output power and attack power, in terms of special abilities alone, each Orga Lux is different.
Some Orga Lux have insignificant abilities, such as allowing someone to fly or changing the weight of their seat. It's not that these abilities are useless, but it's quite a stretch to say they are powerful.
Some Orga Lux have extremely powerful abilities. Some can control sandstorms, some can control water flow, and some can even control gravity, manipulate others' minds, etc. These abilities are very attractive at first glance.
Out of the twenty-two Orga Lux currently owned by Seidoukan Academy, excluding the seven that have already been lent out, the remaining fifteen range from strong to weak, some extremely powerful and some extremely weak.
In that case, Ark naturally wanted to take the strongest one.
After all, he didn't need to consider compatibility issues or whether the other party's abilities matched his, so of course, he should try to choose the strongest one.
But...
"After looking at them, it seems this is the strongest..."
Ark's gaze fell on one of the many windows displayed before him.
What was displayed here was a sword.
A sword with a black hilt adorned with a versatile red crystal, and the blade looked like a sword with undulating flames.
This sword was enormous, almost as tall as a person.
However, in the displayed window, the values of this large sword, whether in terms of output power, attack power, or special abilities, were extremely high. Not only was it far superior to ordinary Lux weapons, but even ordinary Orga Lux couldn't compare.
Among the fifteen Orga Lux Ark had seen that hadn't been lent out, the data displayed by this sword was the strongest.
That was only natural.
"This is one of the four Colored Magic Swords, a top-tier Orga Lux."
To be honest, Ark really wanted to choose this one.
"But this is the Orga Lux of the protagonist in the original novel, right?"
This was what Ark was worried about.
Currently, the protagonist of the original novel hadn't arrived at Seidoukan Academy yet.
The protagonist is a transfer student and will move here one or two months before the start of this season's Festa as a special student.
At that time, he will have the opportunity to freely choose an Orga Lux.
The magic sword before him is the Orga Lux chosen by the protagonist in the original work.
Thinking of this, Ark became somewhat hesitant.
But then, he made another decision.
"Since I'm the first one to come here, there's no reason to hesitate about something that will happen in the future."
Today, if there were another Orga Lux of the same level as this one, Ark would prioritize that one.
However, right now, the abilities of the Orga Lux before him were extremely powerful. Although some other Orga Lux were praised as not inferior to it in the introduction, according to Ark, those Orga Lux still weren't as impressive as the one before him.
This Orga Lux was incredibly powerful and special, and it was very appealing to Ark.
Unfortunately, Ark was still in the early stages of development and didn't have the strength to give way to others.
The power of his first exclusive weapon would directly determine the outcome of Ark's initial life experience.
Should he lay a solid foundation to better develop his life experience in the future, or should he give up on things that haven't happened yet...?
This didn't require further consideration.
"Sorry, my brother. At worst, I can help you find your sister later."
After muttering this, Ark no longer hesitated. He reached out and clicked on the window displaying the deep black magic sword.
*DING!*
Along with the sound of the command, all the windows around Ark disappeared.
But when Claudia, who was watching from behind, saw the choice Ark made, she was shocked.
"You really chose this?"
Claudia's expression looked more troubled than before.
"Why did you choose this?"
Claudia unconsciously pressed the Orga Lux at her waist, her expression becoming very uncertain.
Unfortunately, Ark's choice had been made, and many things had already happened, and there would be no changes.
*SWISH!*
With a sound like mechanical friction, a cylindrical storage cabinet descended from the ceiling above Ark's head.
The storage cabinet landed right in front of Ark, then automatically opened. Two mechanical arms extended from it, clamping onto the motor in the air, and delivered it to Ark.
Ark reached out and took the machine into his palm.
The machine was shaped like a black hilt, adorned with a versatile red crystal as its core, exactly the same as what Ark had seen in the display window.
The core of an Orga Lux, the Urm Manadyte, is always green, and only Urm Manadyte of other colors exist.
The presence of this red Urm Manadyte told others that this was an Orga Lux, not an ordinary Lux.
"The measurement is ready. Please activate the Orga Lux in your hand."
A reminder sounded from the staff's loudspeaker in the laboratory. Ark nodded and activated the black hilt-shaped machine in his hand.
*ZHENG!*
The Urm Manadyte on the sword's body suddenly burst into a dazzling red light, stirring the Mana in the surrounding space, causing Mana to gather at the sword's hilt.
The Urm Manadyte began to materialize, and like digital blocks emerging from thin air, it combined and built itself at the front end of the Urm Manadyte, forming a very heavy sword guard.
Then, the sword guard automatically opened like a machine, and a glowing sword blade extended from it.
The blade was pure white and transparent, looking like a giant single-edged lightsaber.
Holding the enormous sword, Ark's eyes flickered, and he couldn't help but call out its name.
[Ser-Veresta]
Around him, or more precisely, in the laboratory separated by a layer of glass, the white-clad staff were also slightly restless.
"He chose Ser-Veresta?"
"One of the four colored demon swords. Legend has it that this sword is invincible and can burn everything. It will melt anything it touches and turn the earth into a furnace if stabbed..."
"This is one of the top demon swords among all Orga Lux. He really chose this?"
"Did he choose it because of its fame?"
"That's too naive. I heard no one has been able to use this demon sword for years. He's an ordinary student who hasn't even made it into the famous sacrifice book. Does he really think he can tame something like this by passing the Orga Lux loan review?"
"Okay, stop talking. It's someone else's business which Orga Lux they choose. We just need to complete the measurement work."
"Right."
"Let's start the measurement."
A group of measurement personnel immediately became busy again.
Behind the laboratory, Claudia also stared at Ark, unsure what she was thinking.
In this situation, Ark closed his eyes.
No one knew that at this moment, he was actually listening to the movements of the Orga Lux in his hand.
It was a movement that no one else could detect.
Orga Lux has its own consciousness, and at this moment, Ark could clearly feel the presence of this consciousness.
He could feel that the other party was scrutinizing him, staring at him, as if assessing his worth, with a probing gaze.
Then, perhaps because it realized Ark's mediocre abilities, it quickly lost interest and withdrew its gaze.
"The current compatibility level is 8%."
The voice played by the staff through the loudspeaker clearly reached Ark's ears.
"You really don't like me in this state?"
Ark opened his eyes and suddenly smiled.
"Then... let's start officially!"
