Chapter 10: Cost, Side Effects, and Sacrifice

Two days later, Ark received Ser-Veresta from Claudia.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, Ser-Veresta."

In a relatively secluded corner of Seidoukan Academy, Ark held the deep black machine of Ser-Veresta in his hand, feeling the excitement emanating from it, smiled, and activated it.

*ZHENG!*

A bright red light shot out from Ser-Veresta's Urm Manadyte. Mana reacted to the magic sword's power, forming a thick and large sword guard, allowing the pure white blade to extend from the opened sword guard.

*BUZZ!*

Ark lifted Ser-Veresta and injected Prana into it, causing black lines to emerge from around the pure white blade, continuously swirling and merging into the Urm Manadyte.

An overwhelming heat immediately condensed on the sword, turning the pure white blade into black.

Under Ark's control and the perfect combination with Ser-Veresta, the heat this time did not dissipate like last time but was concentrated on the blade.

"Hmm..."

Holding Ser-Veresta with its blackened blade, Ark pondered for a moment and began talking to himself.

"Although it feels very practical to use, Ser-Veresta is still too big."

Ser-Veresta looked like a greatsword. An ordinary person might not be able to lift it. An average Genestella might also find it difficult to wield such a large sword flexibly, which would cause many limitations in battle.

"It would be better if it were smaller."

As soon as these words left Ark's mouth, Ser-Veresta in his hand suddenly changed.

*ZHENG!*

The Urm Manadyte emitted a bright red light again. Mana also transformed into black lines once more and coiled around Ser-Veresta, continuously swirling and floating.

In this state, Ser-Veresta shattered.

No, it should be said that it was rebuilt.

The thick sword guard that had initially formed almost disappeared, and the wide blade suddenly shrank, compressing the extremely high heat for the second time.

After a while, Ser-Veresta, which was originally almost as tall as a person, became the size of an ordinary sword. It was no longer heavy and large but appeared flexible, light, and dangerous.

Seeing this scene, Ark smiled as expected.

"You really can adjust your size freely."

With the Supreme Authority over Weaponry, as long as he held a weapon in his hand, Ark could fully control its abilities 100%, not to mention this weapon had acknowledged him as its master through his authority and had become his exclusive weapon.

Therefore, from the moment he first held Ser-Veresta, Ark already knew what kind of abilities the sword possessed, and also knew that it could freely adjust its form like this.

"That's right, this is much more comfortable."

Ark swung Ser-Veresta casually, leaving swirling streams of heat along the sword's trajectory.

*SWOOSH!* *SWOOSH!* *SWOOSH!*

As he swung the sword, Ark unconsciously increased the speed of his swings. With a slight movement of his body, he slashed out a large arc of black light, causing Ser-Veresta's blade, which condensed extremely high heat, to emit a buzzing sound with each swing.

If there were others here witnessing this scene, they would hardly believe this was Ark's first time wielding Ser-Veresta.

The sword dance, in which his entire body was immersed and his movements naturally followed the sword, even in the eyes of a highly skilled swordsman, was no different from an experienced user who had fought with Ser-Veresta for over a decade.

Those who knew that Ark had just obtained Ser-Veresta today and had never used it before would also find this scene extraordinary.

At this moment, Ark's posture while using Ser-Veresta showed no signs that he had never wielded it before.

Even Ark himself felt as if he had been fighting alongside Ser-Veresta for over ten years. The tacit understanding and cooperation between him and Ser-Veresta clearly far surpassed that of previous sword users.

"The unity of man and sword" – this phrase appeared in Ark's mind.

What a pity...

"The Prana consumption is too excessive."

Ark suddenly stopped without any warning, his face slightly pale, and he smiled bitterly.

"Is this the price of Ser-Veresta?"

Although Orga Lux are extremely powerful, there is a price to pay for using each piece of Orga Lux.

The cost varies greatly depending on the type of Orga Lux.

This is both a side effect and a threshold.

The cost of using Ser-Veresta is consuming a massive amount of Prana.

"Massive" here is not just a description.

At the very least, if used by an ordinary Genestella, their Prana would be drained dry in an instant.

"The original protagonist's Prana far surpassed others. If we only talk about quantity, among all the characters appearing in the entire book, there might only be two or three who could definitely surpass him."

"He was able to gain Ser-Veresta's acknowledgment largely because of this."

"Compared to him, the amount of Prana I have is much less."

Ark's abilities in all aspects are average at Seidoukan Academy, including Prana.

With Prana at this level, even if he could use Ser-Veresta, the sword would drain him dry in an instant.

If it hadn't acknowledged its master, Ser-Veresta would have mercilessly drained Ark dry in two or three seconds, leaving him without even a chance to swing the sword.

The reason it could be used for a certain period now is, on one hand, Ser-Veresta deliberately held back and did not absorb too much of its master's Prana; on the other hand, after acknowledging its master, Ser-Veresta itself had been enhanced by Ark's Authority. Not only had its power greatly increased, but even the side effect cost had been reduced.

But even so, with Ark's barely sufficient Prana, he might only be able to use Ser-Veresta for a few minutes.

This is the result of Ser-Veresta deliberately holding back most of its power.

If Ark wanted to unleash Ser-Veresta's power to its full potential and increase its output to the maximum limit, he might only be able to launch a few attacks.

"After all, it's because my Prana is too little." Ark said helplessly.

At this moment—

*BUZZ!*

Ser-Veresta suddenly vibrated, and a large amount of Mana was released from the Urm Manadyte.

"Ser-Veresta?"

Ark was stunned and asked in confusion.

Ser-Veresta did not respond to Ark but instead concentrated the large amount of Mana it released onto him, even injecting it into his body.

Then, Ark was surprised to find that his Prana and even his physical abilities were rapidly strengthening.

"This..."

Ark's eyes widened, initially feeling extremely shocked, then he felt delighted.

"Ser-Veresta can really help me increase my strength?"

What's going on?

Something like this never happened in the original book!

"That's right."

Suddenly, Ark reacted.

"Genestella were originally born due to the influence of Mana."

"And Urm Manadyte is high-purity Manadyte, itself a condensate of Mana."

"In other words, as long as the Mana in Urm Manadyte is used to interfere with the human body, it is possible to promote the birth of Genestella, and even enhance the strength of Genestella!"

This isn't something that can be done just by saying it.

However, Ser-Veresta had acknowledged Ark as its master and had become Ark's exclusive weapon, merging with him. That's why it could actively release its own power through the connection of Authority to enhance Ark's abilities.

"This is truly a pleasant surprise."

Feeling his Prana and physical abilities continuously increasing, the smile on Ark's face grew more intense.

However, not long after, his smile faded.

Because, in his perception, Ser-Veresta's own aura was growing weaker.

"Ser-Veresta! Stop now!"

Ark's expression suddenly changed, and he hurriedly stopped Ser-Veresta.

But Ser-Veresta had no intention of stopping. Instead, it continued to release a large amount of Mana, causing the glow of the Urm Manadyte to grow dimmer.

It was sacrificing its own power to make Ark stronger.

"Stop!"

After understanding this, Ark immediately took control of Ser-Veresta and forcibly stopped the release of Mana.

He fully controlled Ser-Veresta and had turned it into his exclusive weapon, which meant Ark could override Ser-Veresta's will and forcibly control it.

The Urm Manadyte then stopped releasing Mana and slowly withdrew its light.
