Chapter 11: Trailblaze Continuances Return of The Express Guard 2
After everyone heard Austin's age, it was unanimously decided that there was no problem with him sharing a room with Stelle. So, after the meeting, everyone dispersed, leaving only Austin, Himeko, and Stelle to check out the room in question. When they walked into the meeting room, or rather, it should now be called the party room.
Austin could feel the completely changed interior, but for now, he didn't pay much attention to it because he had to take Pastel to the room where she would be staying. They walked up the spiral staircase at the edge of the platform to the second floor of the party cabinet, which had once been a storage room but had been converted into Austin's room.
And now that room is about to become Stelle room as well. After opening the door, the interior remains unchanged, just as Austin remembered. The sleeping area, the bathroom, the living area, the kitchen area, the gaming area, and the collection area—all of it is still the same.
Even the snacks in the snack bar and the drink bar were filled to the brim, just like before they disembarked. Even the kitchen utensils were polished to a shine, ready for the traditional cooking that Austin was skilled at, not the synthetic cooking that people usually did on the spaceship.
"It seems like everything is constantly changing, or maybe someone came in and took some to eat. Well, they were made for that purpose anyway."
"It's like a small party room." Stelle explored the surroundings with interest, especially the snack and drink cabinet.
"I was planning to use it as a party spot, but since the downstairs is already a party cabin, having another one here seems a bit odd." Austin tried opening the fridge, which was still working as usual. After checking that it was still functioning properly, he filled it with food and drinks he brought from the storage dimension, making it full of fresh food, snacks, and beverages.
"But this is nice too, you know. I actually prefer this quiet atmosphere to the downstairs." Himeko placed her hand on the counter where she used to sit and drink coffee while enjoying the pastries Austin made.
"If that's how you feel, then let's leave it as it is. As for the bed..." Austin looked at his king-sized bed. "I'll sleep on the couch until we can find a separate bed."
"Eh, sleeping together shouldn't be a problem, right?" Stelle replied casually.
"Even if you say that... No, no, if you don't mind about it and just sleep, it wouldn't be a problem at all. Sorry, it's my fault." Austin held his head in his hands at Stelle nonchalant attitude, not thinking too much about it. It was him who was overthinking it. Isn't this normal?
"I don't think you need to apologize. After all, thinking of others first isn't always a bad thing. But it seems that from now on, I won't be able to sneak a nap in your room like before," Himiko, seeing that there was no issue between the two, brought up a humorous point instead.
"Come on, even though my bed is big, I can't stand sleeping so cramped like that all the time. Besides, you toss and turn a lot." Austin took the bait from the other person, but when he thought about the time Himiko shared the bed with him back in the day, he couldn't help but get a headache.
"Hehe, then it's decided. From now on, this room will be Austin and Stelle."
"Well, that's that," Austin replied, though he still felt a bit worried. But once he thought about it, he realized he would get used to it soon enough and calmed down.
"I won't ever change to another rooms!" Stelle replied happily while eating snacks from Austin's cupboard.
"Oh, and Himeko, since you're free anyway, could you help with this?" Austin pointed to the ends of his mullet on the back of his neck.
"Sure~, go wait in front of the mirror. Let me grab the scissors for a moment." Austin nodded and walked over, sitting in front of the full-length mirror at the entrance of the room, pulling out his hair tie.
"Are you going to cut your hair?" Stelle leaned in, resting her chin on Austin's shoulder.
"Uh... is that too close?" Austin, who had encountered many types of people, rarely met someone who adapted to the environment so quickly and had no issues with skinship like Stelle. "And, are you planning to eat all my supplies?"
"What do you mean it's yours? This is my room too, remember? So all of this is our snack, okay~!"
"Well... technically, I guess. But don't eat anything carelessly, okay? I might accidentally store some poison in the fridge~." Austin smirked with a hint of mischief and looked mysterious in his own way as he gently pushed Stelle face away from his shoulder.
"Don't worry, those poisons can't do anything to my stomach." Stelle clapped her stomach proudly.
"Are you a raccoon or a ratel, really... Well, at least you don't rummage through the trash like a real raccoon." While the two were having a smooth conversation, Himeko returned with a comb and scissors she used frequently. Stelle moved back a bit but still sat nearby, eating snacks and watching.
"Standing behind the mirror like this makes me think of the past." Himeko reminisced about the early days, gently combing the ends of Austin's hair and trimming it little by little, even though she could finish it in just a few minutes. It was as if she wanted this moment to last just a little longer.
Austin's hair fell onto his shoulders and the ground below, slowly dissipating as if consumed by silver flames. They both talked about the rather tumultuous and unplanned journey in the past when the pioneer train had just resumed its voyage across this sea of stars.
Stelle, who was sitting and listening, couldn't help but be captivated by the thrilling adventure and journey story, like a child listening to a fairy tale. At the same time, she was learning more and more about Himeko and this incredibly mysterious man.
When he finished, Austin turned left and right, examining his freshly cut hair in the mirror slowly before smiling with satisfaction. "It seems your skills haven't declined, Himeko, even though during the first try, my long hair almost disappeared completely."
"Well, it's because you always have to cut someone's hair regularly; you really take good care of yourself in other matters." Himeko placed the comb and scissors on the nearby counter and inspected her own work.
"Doesn't seem to have changed much, does it?" Stelle said as she walked in for a closer look.
"Well, I just trimmed the mullet and the parts that were too long. If I cut it shorter than this, I wouldn't really like it either." Austin stood up, and a swirl of silver-white light surrounded him, transforming his outfit in an instant into the one Himeko had given him as a gift, along with the words, 'Consider this your uniform as The Nameless~.'
"It still fits perfectly; this is how it should be to really feel like coming back~" Austin raised his arm to check the familiar uniform.
"That's how it should be to look like that mischievous Austin." Himeko smiled at Austin's demeanor.
"Now that we're done with our business, let's head back to the Parlor cabin."
"Oh really... now that you mention it, I completely forgot about that. Where's our next stop, Himeko?"
"Try to guess~" Himeko replied, imitating Austin's faint, mysterious smile.
"*Hmph~* Surprise me then, Stelle. Go ahead; those snacks aren't going anywhere anyway."
After waiting for Stelle to scoop up the snacks from the cabinet into both hands, they all went to the reception desk, where others were gathered around Pom-Pom, who was holding up a picture.
"It looks like you're having fun. What are you all doing?" Himeko walked into the group, and when she saw Pom-Pom holding a picture, she turned back to Austin and let out a soft laugh.
It turns out that the picture is of Austin from the time he had just boarded the train, which hardly resembles him at all now. The only two things that confirm it is Austin are his face and the color of his eyes.(Austin used to got a white hair, sorry i don't know how to put a picture in here. but there a picture of him in my original thai language novel)
"Wow, Mr. Austin, this look is so bad boy, like a rebellious kid sneaking out for a night out after school!" March looked back and forth between Austin and that old photo with sparkling eyes.
"Thank you for the easy-to-understand explanation, Ms. March, but it seems I've made this face before too." Austin walked over and took the picture from Pom-Pom's hand to examine it closely.
"Looks just like a naughty child, huh." He let out a soft laugh and smiled with satisfaction.
"And you don't have to use 'Mr.' or polite words with me. Even though I'm older, my heart is still a teenager~." After saying that, Austin returned the photo to Pom Pom. "On the other hand, I won't use polite or formal words with you either; how about that?"
"Wow~ So this is what they call old but still cool; no wonder he's the one in charge of the super strong spirit train."
"And I would appreciate it if you stopped calling me old man." Austin smiled dryly at March's joke.
"Alright, alright, let's leave the past behind, Pom. The train has just left the safe zone of the station, so all passengers, please find your seats and hold on tight; be careful of the vibrations, Pom." Pom-Pom put away the photo and turned to March. "Especially you, March, be careful not to get hurt again, Pom."
"Is this really something we need to warn about specifically, March?" Austin asked.
"Hey! Not at all. I was just trying to keep my balance while the train was warping."
"Like that... I guess it will be fine eventually." Austin shook his head, lost interest, and walked over to sit in his usual seat.
"At first, I was worried whether the kids would get along with you, because from what Himeko said, you tend to be impulsive and hot-headed. But after meeting you in person, I realized I hadn't judged you well enough." Welt sat down on the armrest opposite Austin, placing his cane flat beside the armrest.
"No, no, back then I was just as hot-headed and impulsive as Himeko said. It might sound like an excuse, but during that time, I wasn't really myself. Once I got on the train, I was able to collect my thoughts a bit."
"You remind me quite a bit of an old acquaintance of mine. Since we still have ten minutes until it's time to warp, would you like to play a game with me?" Welt placed his hand on the dog chessboard in front of him, where pieces suddenly appeared.
"Hmm~ Well, why not? Even though I'm not really good at these things, using it to kill time isn't bad either." Austin took out a gold coin from his jacket pocket and flicked it up, "heads."
"Then I guess I have to go with the tails," she said. When the coin landed, the one who guessed correctly got to make the first move on the board.
