CHAPTER 74: GREATER DEMONS
Dean didn’t rush to kill General Rock.
He waited patiently as he tested a theory of his.
Sure enough, after a full minute, a message appeared before him.
<< Congratulation! >>
<< You have corrupted the core essence of mid-level master mage Rock, turning him into a greater demon. >>
‘Greater demon?’
‘What is that?’
Dean frowned as he failed to understand the message before him.
Even after a full minute, Dean couldn’t make head over this new information.
But something told him it was very important.
“My Lord!”
He was pulled out of his thoughts as he looked down to see General Rock kneeling before him, with his head bowed respectfully.
He didn’t look like an enemy that fought to the death with him a few minutes ago and looked more like a loyal servant.
It was at this time that a new message appeared before Dean.
<< Corrupt the core essence of your enemies without killing them, turning them into greater demons.
Greater demons: A loyal follower whose entire existence is to fulfill the will of his Lord. They look no different from an average race of their kind and will go unnoticed unless they release their mana. >>
<< A greater demon can also use evil energy to corrode the core essence of their enemies, turning them into lesser demons.
Lesser demons: A lower version of greater demons. They have no mind of their own and can only follow simple instructions. >>
Dean took a full minute to digest all this new information. During this time, Rock remained silent as he maintained his respectful posture.
Dean opened his eyes and looked at Rock. He could guess that his evil energy had been corrupting him since the start of their fight. However, after suffering several grievous wounds and using much of his mana and the invasion of energy when he used the ‘melody of death’, he finally succumbed to the evil energy’s corruption.
He canceled the ‘melody of death’, causing the massive cloud of evil energy to recede back into his body.
Looking at the hundreds of mages corpses around him, even though he felt mentally and physically tired, he decided to select the undead and specter he could permanently keep before the time limit passed.
“Bring me to your strongest subordinates!”
“Yes, my lord!” Rock didn’t hesitate to act.
All the specters above the city had disappeared together with the undead.
Only the crimson sky remained as a witness to the horrifying battle that had taken place.
As he followed behind Rock, a new set of messages abruptly flashed before him.
<< You have completed the hidden mission ‘kill all enemies in sight’. >>
<< You have received a reward. >>
<< You have completed the hidden mission ‘Create a greater demon’. >>
<< You have received a reward. >>
‘No wonder!’
Dean thought to himself.
He had been wondering why his mind was not clouded when Rock and his mages appeared before him.
When he was teleported to this side of the universe, he was taken by a family of three.
He didn’t even realize when or why he killed them until after he did.
The same happened when he saw this city.
Not that he cared.
Tens of millions of death was already on his head, including his own family.
Dean focused on the first reward causing a new message to appear.
<< You can now create ‘Devil seeds’.
Devil seeds: Concentrate and compress your evil energy into a pea-sized seed that can be detonated remotely. >>
Dean didn’t dwell too much on this message and quickly read the second reward.
<< Make a wish. If it is found appropriate, it will be fulfilled. >>
Dean suddenly stopped, as his breathing quickened.
“My Lord?”
Throughout their fight, Dean didn’t show any visible change in his cold expression, yet he now appeared flustered causing Rock to be bewildered.
Dean ignored Rock.
The thought of bringing his dead mother back to life flashed through his mind momentarily.
But after remembering the system said 'appropriate', he discarded this thought.
Forcefully calming his beating heart, Dean asked in his mind.
‘Can you teleport me to someone?’
<< …. >>
Rock didn’t dare to disturb Dean and waited for him patiently.
After a full minute, a message flashed before Dean.
<< Under one condition! >>
Dean’s gaze turned expectant.
‘Tell me!’
<< You must spread death and chaos when you are teleported to the other side. >>
Dean flashed an evil smile, as his eyes shone with a bright light.
‘Is that all?’
<< … >>
‘As long as you can bring me to him, forget spreading death and chaos, I can even destroy the whole universe for you.’
<< … >>
<< Request accepted! >>
<< You have three days to prepare before you are teleported. >>
Looking at the waiting Rock, Dean spoke with renewed fervor.
“Let’s go, we have a lot of work to do.”
…..
Rock brought Dean around the couple hundred corpses on the ground, before presenting his former strongest subordinates to him.
Dean thought deeply about it before raising twenty-eight undead and turning the soul of the strongest mage into a specter.
Looking at the tens of skeletons before him and the hovering specter above them, Dean stretched out his hand.
“Receive!”
A wave of evil energy burst from his palm, before surrounding the undead and specter.
Together with the receding evil energy, the undead and specter also vanished.
After absorbing all the core essences available, the corpses of all the dead mages turned into dust.
“Let’s go!”
“Yes!”
Having raised two skeleton horses, they both mounted them and rode off.
He didn’t dare to remain here, considering that news of what had befallen this city must have already spread far.
As he left behind a ruined and empty city, the image of a silver-haired boy flashed in his mind.
‘I am coming for you.’
