Chapter 32: If you're good at something, never do it for free
As another year passed, the bustling city of Goodsprings continued to grow along with the population, as families began having children without the fear of being killed since the city was heavily defended. Rebecca and Carla gave birth to daughters, Anna and Sasha (Sasha Braus- Attack on Titan), bringing joy to both families. Both women while close friends, maintained a playful rivalry, always striving to outdo each other in their relationships.
Their friendly rivalry only fueled their bonds, often leading to playful banter as they compared their parenting techniques and shared tips on raising their daughters as well as tips to use on their husbands. Their husbands, Six and Boone, while inundated with affection and responsibilities, seemed to find humor in their wives' competitive spirit, and didn't complain about the hours they spent in bed with their wives. However, that still had the effect of both women becoming pregnant.
The rapidly expanding Goodsprings, with its thriving city life and growing population, gave both families the space to flourish. As fathers, Six and Boone embraced the joys and challenges of parenting while continuing to shape the future of the Mojave with their growing influence.
As the two families expanded, the atmosphere in Goodsprings became increasingly lively. Children played in the streets, and the town thrived with new businesses and community events. Six and Boone found themselves becoming role models, guiding their children and ensuring they were raised in a safe and loving environment.
The community began organizing gatherings to celebrate each other's achievements, with parties that featured local food and entertainment. With every passing day, Goodsprings transformed into a vibrant hub, attracting more settlers seeking a better life. As the foundation for a new future solidified, Six felt a surge of hope and determination, ready to protect his family and this growing city from any threats that might arise.
Meanwhile, whispers of tensions with the New California Republic and Caesar's Legion hinted at potential conflicts ahead again, but Six was prepared. With his growing resources, powerful technology, and a devoted community behind him, he was confident that they could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As Six received yet another invasion alert, the urgency of the situation intensified. The increasing number of Deathclaws signaled the impending takeover of Quarry Junction by a nesting mother, a prospect that would spell doom for any travelers daring to traverse the I-15.
Rather than intervening directly with the deadly creatures, he decided to construct a defensive settlement in the anchor point, allowing the natural order to take its course and let the deadly creatures overrun the I-15 route, knowing their presence would push anyone with common sense to avoid the highway altogether.
Simultaneously it was a strategy that diverted frightened travelers toward the safer and more profitable subway his father, Viktor, had built. After all, he believed in the adage, "If you're good at something, never do it for free."
This time, he opted to leave Rebecca behind after she let slip too many details about his plans. Her loudmouth tendencies sparked a confrontation, leading to a heated altercation between her and his mother, Betty.
To Six's astonishment, his mother Betty managed to rein in the chibi's fury after a heated exchange. Rebecca begrudgingly listened to Betty, a rare feat that left Six amused and relieved. Demonstrating how effective she was in dealing with the younger woman after their verbal sparring.
On his way to the invasion's anchor point, Six picked up Raul Tejada, the sarcastic yet reliable ghoul, to accompany him in the upcoming battle. The resourceful Mexican ghoul had a knack for survival in the wasteland, so Six put him in Rebecca's position in charge of the defenses. Raul's experience and wisdom would undoubtedly be invaluable in the upcoming battle.
As the invasion began, Shido, ever predictable, unleashed his zombie forces against Six's fortified defenses. However, Shido severely underestimated Six's preparation this time. This time, Six prepared a meticulously mass-production of Origin rounds, which were specially designed to nullify all supernatural forces including the zombie virus. As the undead hordes surged forward, they began to drop like flies from standard injuries like common cannon fodder, much to Shido's dismay. Using Origin rounds completely disabled his plans.
As panic set in, Shido made a desperate attempt to flee the battlefield, but it was too late. As Raul unleashed a barrage of artillery, the resulting explosion obliterated Shido, marking yet another failure in his attempts to invade. With Shido's fourth invasion attempt wasted, he was left with only one last chance to link their worlds permanently.
Shido was running out of chances. Meanwhile, Six claimed his fourth invasion ticket, further preparing for what was sure to be Shido's final desperate push. In contrast, Six reaped the rewards of victory, receiving his fourth invasion ticket, solidifying his status as a formidable force in the wasteland.
Six couldn't help but smirk as the familiar chime rang in his head, signaling another step forward in his journey.
Ding!
[Level Up!]
Once again, he leveled up, reaching level 13. This time, he boosted MEDICINE to 90, further enhancing his medical proficiency. For his perk, he selected: Silent Running: Making Running no longer factors into a successful sneak attempt.
With his new skills and perk, Six felt even more prepared to take on the challenges ahead—whether that meant navigating the increasingly hostile Mojave or dealing with the growing number of enemies targeting him and his expanding domain.
His medical expertise was now finely honed—he could treat the most severe injuries, concoct complex drugs, and handle advanced medical equipment with precision. This boost would come in handy, not only in tending to the wounded but also in developing new medical treatments or biological defenses in the future.
For his perk, Silent Running; Six no longer would his running break his stealthy approach he could now move swiftly and silently, blending into the shadows with ease, even at a full sprint. This would prove invaluable when infiltrating enemy camps, scouting dangerous territory, or laying ambushes without detection.
As he returned home, Six reflected on the recent events, considering how best to prepare for the challenges ahead. With the Deathclaw mother looming on the horizon and Shido still lurking, the stakes were higher than ever.
Back in Goodsprings, the atmosphere buzzed with the excitement of growth and community, a stark contrast to the desolate wasteland outside. Twig, having settled into his role managing the bottling production factory, thrived in his new position. The job provided him with purpose, a sense of accomplishment, and he was able to drink all the different flavors of Nuka Cola. He often remarked how it felt like a dream come true.
His personal life had also changed, as he married Penelope, the doctor he met at Lockre, Their relationship blossomed amid shared laughter and quirky adventures, culminating in Penelope's determination to collect samples from Twig—an endeavor that eventually led to her unexpected pregnancy.
Meanwhile, Ben found his niche as a scout for Goodsprings. His role allowed him to traverse the surrounding areas freely, eliminating any threats that wandered too close to Goodsprings' territory, and scavenging their things. With his keen instincts and sharp eyes, most of the time he outright robbed people if they looked sketchy. Ben became a crucial asset nobody wanted to speak of, as he maintained the darker side of Goodsprings.
James Eldridge, Ben's descendant, took the opportunity to join Ron's new, more inclusive Brotherhood of Steel. By this time, many of Ron's Brotherhood members were equipped with advanced X-01 power armor and Elite Riot Gear, solidifying the faction's strength in the Mojave. The Brotherhood's mission resonated with him; he sought to protect the wasteland and its inhabitants, continuing the legacy of valor and technology that he thought his ancestors had championed.
Amidst the flourishing town, Scarlett became a focal point of gossip, her tumultuous romantic life drawing both intrigue and concern from the townsfolk with her deep-rooted daddy issues. With two children fathered by Ron, she displayed a clear pattern of attachment issues, leading to speculation about her future.
The odd pair remained casual lovers, their relationship seemingly stable but lacking any commitment, leaving many to wonder if they would ever tie the knot or remain in their current arrangement.
Despite the familial connection from him training her how to survibe, she and Ron remained casual lovers, with no plans of formalizing their relationship through marriage. Their bond, while unconventional, seemed to suit them just fine as they navigated life in the ever-evolving city of Goodsprings.
As Goodsprings continued to expand, these interwoven lives contributed to a vibrant tapestry of hope and resilience, each individual playing a part in the unfolding story of survival and community in the Mojave Wasteland.
