The quiet forest was filled with an eerie atmosphere.

A young girl dressed in a bright red cloak skipped happily down the familiar forest path. Watching her lively demeanor, Rod felt his mood lift.

"You seem to know this place pretty well?" he asked casually.

"Of course! My grandmother lives in the forest. I come here every day to see her," Annie replied matter-of-factly.

"An old woman living alone in the forest? And you're not worried about her?" Rod found the situation somewhat unsettling.

Annie's expression turned sorrowful. "Grandmother was driven out by the villagers. They said she's a terrible witch, so they exiled her to the forest."

"Only Uncle Hunter, me, and another sister come to visit her regularly."

"You have a sister?" Rod raised an eyebrow.

A hunter, a grandmother, Little Red Riding Hood—this was clearly a fairy tale world. But he couldn't recall Little Red Riding Hood having a sister.

"I don't know her. Grandma mentioned her, but I've never seen her," Annie said, shaking her head.

The two continued walking as they conversed, gradually making their way deeper into the forest.

Suddenly, a deep howl echoed through the trees.

"Awooo!"

"It's the Big Bad Wolf!" Annie's face turned pale with fear, and she curled up behind Rod for protection.

Rod narrowed his eyes and looked into the depths of the forest. A shadowy figure loomed among the trees.

Gray fur, sharp fangs, and deadly claws—before them stood a large, muscular gray wolf. It silently watched them from beside a tall tree, its eyes gleaming with an unsettling intelligence.

Rod furrowed his brow. There was something strange about this wolf's gaze. It wasn't the wild look of a beast but more like the gaze of a kindly elder looking over their descendants.

Whoosh!

As soon as the wolf noticed Rod's gaze, it darted off, disappearing into the depths of the forest with a few agile leaps.

"Fast runner," Rod muttered under his breath.

Following the still-shaken Annie, they soon arrived at a small wooden cabin nestled deep within the forest.

"Grandma! I'm here!" Annie called out, her expression a mixture of excitement and apprehension.

"It's Annie! Come on in!" an elderly voice called from within the cabin.

Pushing open the wooden door, Rod's view immediately grew oppressive.

The dimly lit cabin was cluttered with all sorts of herbs and animal organs. Over a crackling fire, a cauldron hung, filled with a thick, bubbling purple-black liquid. The air inside reeked of something strange and foreboding.

An old woman, draped in a black cloak, stood over the cauldron, stirring its contents with a ladle. Her face, covered in festering boils, was twisted and grotesque, her sunken eyes gleaming with a touch of madness.

"Hehehe, my dear child! Have you brought me another gift?" the mad old woman cackled, her unsettling gaze landing on Rod.

"Grandma, stop joking! He's my friend," Annie said hurriedly.

Hearing that it wasn't a gift, the old woman lost interest and continued stirring the contents of the pot.

"Sorry about this, Adventurer. My grandmother is always like this," Annie apologized, her face full of embarrassment.

"It's fine," Rod replied, his attention fixed on the bubbling cauldron. The cloudy liquid inside piqued his curiosity.

A witch capable of brewing potions…
