Fairy Tail Destiny

Chapter 29: Ch 29 : The Destroyed Guild

On the streets of Magnolia

"We're back!" Natsu shouted loudly as they walked through the streets.

"But after all that effort, the only reward we got was a single key," Gray grumbled in dissatisfaction.

"Well, since it wasn't an official job, I'd say this much is just right," Erza remarked.

"Yeah, yeah, stop complaining," Lucy said with a satisfied smile—the only one among them who truly benefited from the mission, having obtained the Sagittarius Gate Key.

"All the benefits went to Lucy, huh? Why don't we just sell it?" Happy suggested, feeling a little envious.

"You really are a clueless stray cat! I've told you before, the Golden keys—also known as the Twelve Zodiac Keys—are incredibly rare, with only twelve of them in the entire world. They're absolutely priceless!" Lucy looked at Happy with an expression of superiority.

"The cow and the maid, right?" Natsu, who had been walking ahead, suddenly turned his head to chime in.

"If I train a little more, my Celestial Spirits will definitely be stronger than you!" Lucy retorted, glaring at Natsu in defiance.

"So, what kind of key did you get this time?" Gray asked curiously.

"The Sagittarius Gate—Sagittarius," Lucy answered proudly.

"A centaur, huh?" Gray's mind drifted into strange thoughts.

"Uh… shouldn't it be like this instead?"

"You guys sure are acting carefree. Have you forgotten that we'll have to face punishment when we get back?" Erza, watching them celebrate, poured cold water on their enthusiasm.

"Sigh....Punishment?"

Hearing Erza's words, the expressions of the three people and one cat immediately changed.

"Wait a minute, weren't we told there wouldn't be any punishment?"

"Don't be ridiculous. Acknowledging your actions was just my on-the-spot decision. The punishment still stands," Erza responded mercilessly.

"Personally, I think you might get some leniency, but in the end, the decision is up to the Master. If you ask me, he'll probably make you do that again."

When Noel emphasized the word that, his usually handsome face showed an unusually mischievous smile as he looked at them.

"Wait, no! Anything but that! I refuse to do it a second time!"

Upon hearing Noel's words, Gray clutched his head, squatted down on the ground, and began trembling all over, his face filled with pure terror.

"What… what is that?" Lucy, sensing something ominous, asked with a shiver.

"Don't worry about it," Natsu said cheerfully, patting Lucy on the shoulder with an overly bright smile. "If it's the old man, he'll definitely praise us for a job well done!"

"You're really optimistic, Natsu. But I'd say it's practically inevitable," Noel countered with a flawless smile, dashing Natsu's hopes without mercy.

Upon hearing Noel's words, beads of cold sweat formed on Natsu's forehead.

The cheerful grin on his face began to twitch involuntarily.

"No! Anything but that! I don't want to do that again!"

Dragged by his scarf, Natsu finally screamed in horror, while Gray continued to tremble on the ground, seemingly recalling some unspeakable nightmare.

Watching the scene unfold before her, Lucy shouted in frustration, "So what is it?! What exactly is that?!"

----------

"What the hell happened?"

Standing in front of the guild's entrance, the group stared in shock at the scene before them.

Their guild—pierced through by multiple iron pillars—was now barely standing, looking as if it could collapse at any moment.

Their expressions turned grim with anger.

"Our… our guild!" Natsu clenched his fists, veins bulging on his forehead, his mind going completely blank.

"What happened?"

"It was Phantom."

A voice came from behind them.

The group turned around to see Mirajane, her face dark with anger.

"What did you just say?" Gray looked at Mirajane in disbelief.

"Phantom? Was this done by Phantom Lord?" Noel asked softly, but the warmth in his voice was gone, replaced by a bone-chilling coldness.

The killing intent radiating from him was so intense that even Natsu—who was usually slow to notice such things—could feel it.

"…It's frustrating, but yeah, we got played." Mirajane sighed before leading the group down to the guild's underground level.

Normally, this space was used as a storage area, but since the main guild hall was now in ruins, it had been temporarily converted into a bar and mission reception area.

The Fairy Tail members gathered inside were filled with anger and frustration, talking in hushed but heated tones at their respective tables.

"Yo, welcome back."

Makarov, visibly drunk, lazily raised his hand in greeting.

"We're back," Erza responded politely.

"Gramps, how can you be so relaxed right now?" Natsu glared at the seemingly unbothered Makarov.

"Master, do you even realize what's going on?"

"The guild was destroyed."

"It's fine, it's fine," Makarov waved his hand nonchalantly at the group, as if it were nothing. "Don't make such a big deal out of it. Phantom—a bunch of fools like them, this is probably the best they can do. Attacking an empty guild… what's there to be proud of?" He then took another swig of his drink.

"Empty?" Lucy asked, puzzled.

"It seems they attacked at night," Mirajane explained.

"Then, no one was injured? That's at least a small relief." Erza let out a breath.

"There's no need to bother with those cowards who only know how to launch sneak attacks. Just leave them be. Alright, end of discussion. Oh, right! Since you guys took on an S-Class mission without permission, you'll be punished right now."

With a drunken grin, Makarov extended his hand, stretching it unnaturally long, and delivered a karate chop to the heads of Natsu, Gray, and Happy. Then, with a perverted smirk, he gave Lucy a firm slap on the butt.

"Master, I'm going to get mad if you keep this up," Mirajane warned, visibly annoyed.

Since entering the guild, Noel had remained silent.

After glancing at the drunken Makarov, he abruptly turned around and started walking away.

"Where are you going, Noel?"

Makarov, who had been slouched in his drunken stupor, suddenly straightened up, his expression turning serious as his deep voice called out to Noel.

"….."

Noel stopped in his tracks, his lips tightly pressed together, saying nothing.

"Come back here," Makarov ordered, his gaze sharp. "I could overlook Natsu and the others, but you—you of all people should understand the consequences of this, knowing the Council's regulations as well as you do."

BANG!

Noel clenched his fist and slammed it into the wall, leaving a gaping hole.

Without looking back, he resumed walking toward the exit.

"Where are you going?" Makarov asked again.

"Home."

Noel's voice was calm—so calm, it carried no emotion at all.
