Fairy Tail Destiny

Chapter 17: Ch 17 : The Turmoil of Judgment

"Wait a moment."

Seeing that the toad-like official was about to arrest Erza, Noel finally spoke up.

The Magic Council's toad-faced official showed a slight expression of surprise upon seeing Noel. Then, with a respectful bow, he greeted him.

As one of the Ten Wizard Saints, Noel might not have actual authority, but in terms of status, he was at least equal to the Council members—far beyond what a mere official like him could afford to offend.

"Honorable Wizard Saint Noel, what can I do for you?"

"May I take a look at the arrest warrant?"

"Well… Alright."

The toad-faced man nodded and handed the warrant to Noel.

Noel quickly scanned through its contents, frowning slightly.

The warrant was quite brief, with the listed charges primarily revolving around the collateral damage from the Eisenwald incident.

Due to the battle, both Oshibana Station and the Clover Canyon railway had suffered destruction. While the damages seemed severe on the surface, considering Fairy Tail's history of "glorious achievements," this wasn't exactly an unprecedented case.

(I see… So the Council is just doing this for show, to appease the public?)

With this thought, Noel handed the warrant back.

"Lord Noel, if there's no issue, may we proceed with the arrest?" the toad-faced official asked.

Noel considered for a moment before speaking. "Then, may I accompany her as her legal representative?"

"Noel…"

Erza was about to say something, but Noel gave her a look, silently urging her to trust him.

"Hmm… There shouldn't be any problem with that," the toad official replied.

The soldiers behind him stepped forward, preparing to place handcuffs on Erza, but Noel calmly raised his hand to stop them.

"I am willing to vouch for Erza with my title as a Wizard Saint," he said. "She will neither resist nor attempt to flee. So, would it be possible to proceed without the handcuffs?"

"Uh… Well, since Lord Noel himself says so…"

After a brief moment of hesitation, the toad-faced official agreed.

"Much appreciated," Noel replied with a smile and a nod.

-------------

Magic Council, Fiore Branch.

In the long corridor, only the sound of footsteps echoed.

The toad-faced official from the Council led the way, while Erza and Noel walked side by side behind him.

"Noel, you really didn't have to come. I'll be fine."

"Yeah, I know. I just found this situation a bit concerning."

"You're always like this, Noel—"

Erza suddenly stopped speaking. Her gaze locked onto a man ahead—a blue-haired individual with strange markings on his face, wearing a white trench coat. He stood leisurely against a stone pillar.

"Siegrain…" Erza muttered his name under her breath.

"It's been a long time, Erza. No need to get into a fighting stance," Siegrain said with a wave of his hand.

"This is just my thought projection. My real body is in Era, same as those old geezers behind the doors. There's no need for us to personally show up for such a minor case."

"I see… So this was your doing," Erza said coldly. "What a pointless game."

"This really breaks my heart," Siegrain said mockingly. "I was actually defending Fairy Tail. But those old geezers are too afraid of taking responsibility, so they had to find someone to push all the blame onto—a scapegoat."

"Shut up!" Erza snapped angrily.

"Fine, fine. It doesn't really matter. I didn't come to see you before the trial for anything else—just a little warning. Don't mention that matter to the old geezers. It's for both our sakes."

Siegrain's expression turned icy as he glanced at Erza.

Sensing something was off, Noel stepped forward, positioning himself protectively in front of Erza.

His blue eyes met Siegrain's gaze without backing down.

"Well then, I'll be waiting for you beyond the doors… as a member of the Council." Siegrain smirked indifferently before turning away. (Don't get in my way, Erza. I've worked too hard to get to this point. No matter who it is, I won't let anyone interfere with my plans. Never.)

"Erza, you know him?" Noel asked, puzzled.

"…He's a demon."

Noel glanced thoughtfully at Siegrain's retreating figure, frowning. "This guy… gives me a really bad feeling. Just now, I sensed a strange darkness flicker around him."

"What kind of darkness?"

"I'm not sure. Maybe it was because he was just a thought projection, but it was only a brief flash. If not for my Holy Light Magic being particularly sensitive to this kind of energy, I wouldn't have noticed at all."

"I see." Hearing Noel's words, Erza lowered her head slightly, as if deep in thought.

As they stepped into the courtroom, Noel and Erza stood below, while the council members sat high above, their expressions solemn.

Upon seeing Noel, a few of them looked momentarily surprised, but they quickly regained their composure.

Once everyone had gathered, a frog-like judge on the high platform picked up the documents in his hand and began speaking.

"The Magic Council is now in session. Defendant: Erza Scarlet. Regarding the recent Eisenwald Lullaby incident, you are suspected of causing damage to parts of Oshibana Station and destroying parts of the Clover Canyon railway. Based on eyewitness accounts, the culprit was a female mage clad in armor—"

Boom!

Before the judge could finish reading the charges, a loud explosion suddenly echoed through the courtroom. The doors behind Erza and Noel were blown open.

"What's going on?"

All eyes turned toward the entrance. As the smoke cleared, a young man appeared—dressed in crudely made armor fashioned from wooden barrels and wearing a bright red wig.

"I am the armored female mage! If you think you can capture me, then just try it!" Natsu, disguised as Erza, shouted while breathing fire.

"….."

An awkward silence filled the courtroom.

Everyone present was utterly dumbfounded by Natsu's ridiculous disguise.

Noel, who had originally planned to observe the Council's proceedings with a cold detachment, now buried his face in his hands, wishing he could disappear into thin air.

This is beyond embarrassing… And in front of the Council, no less…

Feeling the Council members' judgmental gazes silently conveying, So this is what Fairy Tail mages are like?, Noel had the sudden urge to strangle Natsu on the spot.

"Go ahead and list whatever crimes you want! They must be even graver than our Guild Master's life, right?!" Natsu pointed at the Council members, utterly oblivious to how ridiculous he looked.

Suppressing the overwhelming urge to beat someone senseless, Noel finally spoke.

"Stop it, Natsu."

The presiding judge sighed and shook his head. "Take them to the prison cells."

"I sincerely apologize. I will discipline him properly," Erza said, rubbing her temples.

"Erza, you don't need to apologize for someone like him! Ah, wait… I am Erza!" Natsu continued shouting, still completely unaware of how dark both Erza and Noel's expressions had become.
