Commentary on Chapter 26. Returning to the guild.

Eros had been sorting out the items found in the demon's lair until morning.

- What a bastard, even after his death he decided to screw up," Eros said with a sigh.

Almost all the items were tied to the demon. That is, only he can put them on and use them. And Eros didn't have the skill to remove the bindings yet. Only two items were free, a book and a simple silver ring.

What the book was for, Eros didn't understand, but the ring was interesting. With the help of Analysing Magic, he had learnt the properties of the ring, it protected the mind, preventing it from entering the head and reading thoughts, or otherwise influencing the mind. He decided to put the ring on right away, after a full inspection.

Eros took the rest of the "good stuff" away from the city and hid it, putting a couple of runes on the ground to hide the magic power.

Two days later, the rune knights arrived in the city.

Through the gates of the city passed a column of people dressed in the same uniform, something similar to that of the priests. The uniform consisted of a dark sleeveless dressing gown with the emblem of the Magical Council in the form of a white cross on the front, worn over a light shirt with wide sleeves below the elbows. The dressing gown was fastened with a large diamond-shaped clasp and a light cloak with the same emblem of the Magical Council on the back. Each knight had a metal staff in his hand, topped by a crystal sphere with a small cross.

At the front of the procession was a middle-aged man. He wore a dark jacket with sparse stripes on the cuffs over a light shirt with a large symbol of the Council, loose trousers with a massive belt, light gloves and boots. A white cloak with the emblem of the Magical Council was fastened to a diamond-shaped clasp.

Gildarts stepped forward.

- Hmm... Tail Fey," the man at the front of the column said grudgingly, "Glad to meet you," he held out his hand to the mage.

- I'm glad to see you, Division Commander Jerry," Gildarts replied with a slight smile, shaking his hand.

Both men looked into each other's eyes with disgust... The only thing missing was the lightning from their eyes to complete the picture.

- Hmm... I don't have much time, let's finish all this quickly.

- If that's the case, come on, I'll take you.

- Gildarts himself has decided to see me off, what an honour," Jerry said with a sneer.

- No, I'm just worried about you, or you'll trip and hurt your head and blame it on the fairies' tails," the mage replied with the same intonation, not turning to look at the angry man.

- YOU...! - The division commander roared in an inhuman voice.

The soldiers who followed them did not react to this nice conversation, because it was not the first time for them to see such a thing. Since every meeting of these two people, almost always ended in conflict.

After that, both of them were silent for the rest of the journey.

- Why am I not surprised? - Jerry said, with the intonation of a man who had seen a lot of things, "When will your guild finally learn to fulfil its tasks without destruction? But I praise you, the city is still intact.

Gildarts this time decided to keep silent, he had nothing to say.

When he reached the hole, the mage picked up Eros and jumped into it, followed by Jerry and five soldiers. The division commander used wind magic and calmly began to climb down.

- Master, at least give me a warning! - The titan wasn't afraid to jump down, but it was too abrupt.

- Scared?

- No, but give me a warning!

- All right, all right," the mage smirked, patting Eros on the head.

A moment later, the Rune Knights came down to join them.

- I guess I was wrong," Jerry said with a sigh, looking around Astaroth's lab, "You destroyed everything," he looked at the titan with disappointment, "Kid, don't follow in that idiot's footsteps.

Gildarts frowned and looked at Jerry, the latter snorted in response and turned to the knights.

- Sweep everything! Anything related to dark magic is to be sealed, for further investigation.

- Yes, sir!

He himself, along with Gildarts and Eros, approached the demon's body.

- Why is he naked? - Jerry asked with a twitching eye, looking at Gildarts.

There wasn't a shred of clothing on the demon, only a small white handkerchief covering the innermost place.

- Magic..." the mage replied with a very serious face, looking at Eros.

- He is not naked, you see, the most important place is covered! - Yes, the titan couldn't resist taking his dressing gown.

- Are you kidding me? - Jerry hissed.

- No, the demon burned his own clothes when he used his strongest spell, - Gildarts lied without blinking an eye.

The division commander glared at the mage for a very long time, but he kept a poker face.

- Fuck you," he waved his hand at the two knights and pointed at the body, "Take the body.

They were done with all the business only by evening. Signing all the documents, confirming the completion of the task and taking the reward. The next day both mages left Shirotsumi and even Jerry decided to see them off. Although it would be more correct to say, to piss off Gildarts at the end. But he didn't react to his teasing and even on the contrary, pissed Jerry off. The Rune Knights still didn't pay any attention to it.

- Master, how long have you known that rune knight?

- You mean Jerry?

Eros nodded.

- Yes, you and him just get along so 'well', you're like cronies!

Gildarts heard the titan's words and laughed.

- It's true, we are good friends, - the magician said nostalgically, - We've known him for ten years already, because after each of my assignments he comes to pick up the criminals.

- He must be very fond of you.

After returning to the guild, passing the task and listening to Makarov's lecture that lasted for an hour. Both were able to breathe a sigh of relief.

- Master, I'll go home then, I want to rest today.
