Chapter 55: The Secret of the Mist
Chapter 55: The Secret of the Mist
This area in the western part of the city was desolate and remote. On the other side of the wall was an old house that was slated for demolition. With a few quick steps, You Su easily scaled the wall.
He no longer relied on his divine sense, but focused his gaze instead. The bright red color of the evil entity stood out vividly in his cloudy vision, like a flickering torch in the night, impossible to miss.
You Su crouched low, closely following the path of the evil entity. Fortunately, the nearby old houses were uninhabited, so the occasional clatter caused by You Su knocking things over went unnoticed.
The evil entity was extremely agile, darting around without any pattern. You Su quietly activated the Wishful Wind Control Technique, steadily closing the distance between them.
When he was within striking range, You Su suddenly pushed off the ground, locking onto the evil entity with his aura and lunging forward with his sword.
The evil entity, seemingly aware that escape was impossible, turned its head and fixed its inverted eyes on You Su. Just as You Su was mid-air, the creature suddenly raised its upper jaw, its mouth expanding to an enormous size, as large as a door, completely disproportionate to its slender body!
Realizing that it couldn’t escape, the monster had decided to try and swallow You Su whole!
You Su was only startled for a moment, but his sword continued its relentless path. With a clean, horizontal slash, he cleaved the creature’s gaping mouth in two.
If anyone had been watching, they might have noticed that the mist itself seemed to be sliced apart where You Su’s sword passed, leaving a vacuum that only filled back up with mist after a moment.
The monster’s half-open mouth fell to the ground, twitching violently. It suddenly shrank back to its original size before dissolving into a pool of blood and disappearing. The remaining half of the creature’s mouth was filled with terror as it stared at You Su, who was already raising his sword again. Desperation filled its eyes as it flipped around and tried to flee.
But You Su wasn’t about to let it escape. At this moment, he regretted not being able to communicate with the evil entity, as he might have been able to extract more secrets from it. He moved quickly, determined to destroy the creature once and for all. To his surprise, the evil entity suddenly burst with immense strength, leaping high into the air and crashing through the paper window of an old house in a desperate bid for survival.
You Su followed closely, flipping into the house after it. He hadn’t expected the creature to panic and run into a building, but this made it easier for him to trap it.
When he spotted the trembling monster cowering in a corner, he rushed over with lightning speed. But just as he was about to deliver the final blow, he was shocked to find that the evil entity was already writhing and convulsing like a dying worm.
You Su was puzzled. It couldn’t have been injured that badly from the fall, could it? Losing half of its mouth shouldn’t have caused this level of damage, especially since it still had the strength to break through the window earlier.
Its twisted form looked like a person struggling to breathe. The more You Su observed, the more he realized that the creature’s condition wasn’t due to external injuries, but something internal.
As if to confirm this, the evil entity’s body began to rot from the inside out. Strange holes appeared all over its body, growing larger and causing it to rapidly decay until it dissolved into a pool of blood.
You Su was baffled. Instinctively, he wanted to release his Divine Sense and leave the area. As his Divine Sense spread throughout the room, he was about to sheathe his sword and step away when he noticed something unusual.
His Divine Sense wasn’t restricted in this room!
He examined the room more closely. The door was tightly shut, and the only opening was the window he had broken through earlier. This meant that the strange mist hadn’t seeped into this old room yet.
A sudden realization hit him…
The evil being’s bizarre death was caused by being separated from the mist!
Just like humans can’t survive without air, this evil entity couldn’t survive without the strange mist!
But the evil entities he had encountered before didn’t seem to have this requirement. This led You Su to an even more terrifying conclusion…
This evil entity had come from the dense mist outside the city! It was allied with the giant mist demon! And it was highly likely that there were more unknown evil entities within the mist!
Once this idea took root, You Su became increasingly convinced of its validity. This also explained why the Mist Demon was continuously spewing the mist – to expand the range of the evil entities within it, turning Chuyun City into a playground where they could run rampant!
If this was true, then City Lord Liu and the other two had no chance of escaping the mist. Their mission wasn’t just dangerous, it was a death sentence!
You Su immediately wanted to rush back to the city lord’s mansion to inform City Lord Liu of this discovery. Perhaps it wasn’t too late to stop them from leaving the city. But then he hesitated.
Regardless of whether his theory was correct, bringing it up would almost certainly expose his ability to see evil entities.
But he had been blind since childhood, and had never left Chuyun City. His junior sister and master’s wife, who had almost no contact with the outside world, would undoubtedly come under suspicion…
With the city surrounded by evil entities, the sudden appearance of two more within the city would lead to obvious consequences for his junior sister and master’s wife…
He had kept their identities hidden for so long, and even Gu hadn’t noticed anything wrong. Was it worth risking their exposure in order to save the lives of City Lord Liu and the other two?
You Su felt torn. After a moment of internal struggle, he gritted his teeth and made a decision.
He Shutong stood on a massive tree branch protruding from a cliff overlooking a bottomless, fog-shrouded abyss.
The cliff winds howled, tousling her black hair and pressing her plain white dress against her exaggerated waist and hips, accentuating her slender and graceful figure. Yet, her cold, aloof demeanor made it impossible for anyone to harbor improper thoughts about her.
She had been chasing a trace of evil energy for several days, moving from place to place, only to have it vanish once again just as she was about to catch it. This left her feeling deeply frustrated.
She couldn’t help but suspect that the evil energy was deliberately leading her around in circles. If that was the case, it could only mean that the true goal of the entity behind the energy was Chuyun City.
She had only left the city after confirming that Gu was there. A Feather Transformation Realm cultivator was among the best of the best, and with him guarding Chuyun City, there shouldn’t have been any problems…
A strong sense of unease began to grow in He Shutong’s heart, sprouting like bamboo shoots after rain and quickly becoming uncontrollable.
Her delicate brows furrowed as she decided to abandon the evil entity that had been toying with her for days and return to Chuyun City. An inexplicable premonition told her that something must have happened in the city!
As soon as she made the decision, He Shutong grabbed her sword hilt and sped back at full speed. She hadn’t even unlocked her full cultivation power, yet her speed was already as fast as the wind. At this rate, within half a day, she would be back in Chuyun City.
But just as she focused on her journey, the evil energy she had been chasing for days reappeared – and this time, it was extremely close!
This only confirmed her suspicion that the entity behind the energy was deliberately stalling her, trying to prevent her from returning to Chuyun City!
Ignoring the evil energy, she accelerated even more, scurrying through the forest like a shadow.
But the evil energy wasn’t about to let go of her. It suddenly surged ahead, blocking He Shutong’s path and revealing its form among the pine trees:
“Lotus Sword Venerable, where are you off to in such a hurry?”
