Exorcist in America

Chapter 414: Chapter 414: Preparation for a Surprise

"Hmph! We saved them; we definitely can't be monsters."

Alyssa stated emphatically, looking at a surprised York.

"Uncle York, you must be a savior! Otherwise, hmm."

The little girl's voice was crisp, yet it carried a hint of threat.

York felt a warm sensation in his heart. He really didn't care what the humans of this world thought of him, whether as a monster or anything else—god or savior, it didn't matter. What mattered to him were the people close to him. Seeing Alyssa's serious face, York smiled genuinely and patted her head.

"Thank you, Alyssa. You've been a great help to me."

Alyssa's eyes sparkled, sensing the sincerity in York's words. She smiled, her eyes squinting happily.

"It's nothing, Uncle York. This is what I wanted to do. Even without me, I think this small matter wouldn't have troubled you."

---

"That's how it is."

In a luxurious room, all the real human elite were gathered, including well-known scientists like Ashley and Diobia.

They listened intently to Senator Dino Lebrun's narrative, expressing amazement throughout.

"So, the true nature of the doom fog is like this."

After hearing Dino Lebrun out, Ashley couldn't help but exclaim,

"We thought the doom fog was an apocalypse for humanity, but it turned out to be our salvation."

He said with a wry smile,

"We spent days and nights researching it, trying to find a solution to save humanity."

Turning to the now-silent Dino Lebrun, Ashley asked,

"So why didn't you tell us sooner?"

Dino Lebrun appeared somewhat emotional, "At that time, I didn't understand it fully myself. By the time I grasped the truth of this world, it was too late. The higher being involved doesn't linger in one place, appearing and disappearing without a trace. We are all under this being's protection. In simple terms, we couldn't reach them."

Dino Lebrun then pressed a button on a remote, and the screen in the room changed.

The image of a tall and a small figure walking hand in hand through a crowd appeared.

It was a video capture of York and Alyssa.

"These two are the saviors of our humanity."

Dino Lebrun also watched the screen intently, stating seriously,

"If these two hadn't acted, our kind would forever remain in the dark, generation after generation, for thousands or even tens of thousands of years, merely as food for others."

Ashley and Diobia exchanged glances, the events of recent years and the information shared by Dino Lebrun coming together in their minds, helping them to grasp the underlying purpose.

The godlike being was selecting true humans. As for what came after the selection, they were not yet clear.

Ashley, Diobia, and the others breathed a sigh of relief, feeling fortunate to have divine intervention saving humanity.

The office was filled with this sense of relief when suddenly, a knock sounded at the door.

"Come in," Dino Lebrun called out.

The door opened, revealing a somewhat panicked individual.

"Senator, it's not good—the fog seems to be dissipating."

This statement struck like a thunderbolt, stiffening everyone present.

"Take me there; I need to see what's happening!" Dino Lebrun maintained his composure, directing the messenger to lead the way.

"Yes!"

This movement stirred the high-ranking officials in the office, who followed out of the room.

Ashley and Diobia looked at each other.

"Let's go see," Ashley suggested, his pale eyebrows twitching slightly.

"I think I understand why the fog is dissipating."

Ashley got up and followed, with Diobia and the remaining elderly not far behind.

"Ashley, you mean..." Diobia walked beside him, looking towards the increasingly fast-moving crowd, murmuring.

"Yes."

As Diobia's long-time colleague and peer, Ashley knew what Diobia was hinting at without him finishing.

They should all be on the same page.

"If all the missing humans are here, and there's no sign of damage to the buildings, where did all the missing missiles go?"

Allowing Diobia and the elderly to widen their eyes in realization, Ashley's eyes sparkled with a gleam of wisdom.

"In just two years, the number of missiles launched by countries has reached the tens of thousands. I think the god who favors us humans must be planning to give us a significant gift."

With these words, Ashley's voice was filled with excitement and a hint of emotion, but regardless, those around him understood his meaning.

---

In the midst of the crowd's bewildered looks, the dense fog that had surrounded them began to dissipate.

"What's happening!" someone shouted.

"Has the god abandoned us?"

For those who knew

the truth, the surrounding fog was not the doom fog but the savior fog that gave them courage.

But now, the savior fog was starting to slowly dissipate, turning lighter, and the visible area gradually expanded.

This visible change sank their hearts.

"Don't panic!"

Dino Lebrun led the way, looking at the slowly dissipating fog, his expression growing more solemn.

With the human population barely over a billion, they could all live here without feeling crowded after spreading out.

So, he didn't think such a small population could win against the drifting alien tribes in the vast sea.

Moreover, before the evacuation, these people had wasted so much weaponry, and after the evacuation, they had moved away most of their weapon reserves. Thus, on fixed land, the weapons resources available to these humans were very limited.

Besides this natural disadvantage, in the information given by the divine beings, the alien tribes seemed to have a demoralizing racial talent.

That is, they could possess human bodies for their own use, even if near death, and still recover quickly after possession.

Under such conditions, Dino Lebrun could not think of a reason why humans could win this war.

For a moment, Dino Lebrun was also somewhat panicked.

With the barrier of dense fog gone, what should humanity do? How should they deal with the approaching alien tribes?

"God!" Dino Lebrun subconsciously clenched his fists, praying inwardly.

"Are you abandoning us, humanity? If we have done something to displease you, please tell us, and we will change. Please don't abandon us just because you are temporarily displeased."

Even though they believed the divine being was on their side and was the god of humanity, the current situation made them feel a helpless despair, like being abandoned.

Not just Dino Lebrun, everyone looked up at the slowly dissipating fog, praying in their hearts, and at the same time reflecting on their own mistakes, ready to confess.

But to their despair, regardless of how they prayed or confessed to their god in their hearts, the fog that covered the sky continued to fade, visibly so.

The previously unclear distance was now gradually becoming clearer.

"My God!"

Someone felt abandoned and covered their mouth.

"What do we do?"

The atmosphere of despair slowly grew denser and spread among the many people.

Even Dino Lebrun felt disheartened, as if the divine being had abandoned them, feeling as if all strength had been drained from his body.

But there was a very sudden shift in the crowd, a flowing motion of people moving forward.

A comforting voice rose.

"Don't panic! Since that divine being has saved all of us humans and separated us from the alien tribes, allowing us to live on the land and expelling the aliens to drift helplessly on the sea, it shows that He is the god of all humanity, not of the aliens.

So, the god deeply loves us humans!"

Ashley's voice echoed as he walked through the crowd that automatically parted for him, and people watched and listened to him speak.

"Since He deeply loves us, then He definitely will not abandon humanity! The fog may have disappeared, but I think God must have something planned for us!"

Ashley spoke loudly, walking through the space made by the crowd, until he reached the bewildered Dino Lebrun, patted his shoulder gently, and said softly.

"Let's go, perhaps God has arranged some surprise for humanity."

Dino Lebrun was stunned, feeling weak.

"Go where? Without the savior fog to protect us, we can't beat those alien tribes. They have more weapons than us; they have more numbers than us."

"Who says we don't have weapons?" Ashley smiled, growing ever more confident in his hypothesis, earnestly saying.

"I just said, God deeply loves us, Senator Dino Lebrun, you need to remember He is our god, not the god of the aliens! You were the first to contact our god; you should understand this better than us who have never seen Him."

Dino Lebrun paused, picturing the tall and small figures in his mind, took a deep breath, and his eyes slowly brightened.

"Let's go, follow the dissipating fog."

Seeing this reaction, Ashley watched the retreating fog and smiled.

"Perhaps we'll see the surprise God has for us."

Without waiting for Dino Lebrun to respond, Ashley led Diobia and the others, the most intelligent of the human group, and walked forward.

Their white hair, slightly bent backs reflected in everyone's eyes.

At that moment, even Dino Lebrun's eyes reddened, and he followed.

His movement stirred the dense crowd behind him, which also began to move.

Footsteps thundered, shaking the earth.

Each person was unarmed, merely following the person in front, step by step, following the footsteps of the elderly in front, pursuing the continuously dissipating fog, walking steadfast

ly in silence.

At that moment...

On the calm sea, countless leaves floated.

The view stretched far, and the leaves were densely packed, carrying a group of panicked figures.

"Fog?"

Back in that office, the President of the Free Nation stared intently at the general who had come to report, his gaze fierce enough to swallow him whole.

"Yes, sir."

The general's back was chilling, and beads of sweat formed on his forehead, falling onto the steel floor, making a slight sound in the deathly silent space.

The general dared not move, only lowering his head, steeling himself against the sharp looks, his voice trembling as he spoke.

"We have discovered fog, now moving at about 200 miles per hour, spreading towards us."

"How can there be fog!" The President of the Free Nation repeated the question.

The general dared not answer; he also didn't know how to respond, as he himself didn't understand how there could be fog.

"It was said that the doom fog was blocked by the sea; that's why we were forced to retreat to the sea," the President repeated.

"So, how can there be fog!"

The silent space echoed only with his voice; no one could answer his question.

The President of the Free Nation took a deep breath, looking at the highly ranked general before him.

"What can we do about it."

The general spoke weakly,

"According to previous instances, the doom fog is unstoppable."

The President's gaze sharpened, becoming more dangerous.

"But in various experiments, the doom fog seems like normal fog and doesn't have a devouring effect,

So, as long as we connect all the ships and vessels tightly together before the fog arrives, as long as we don't get lost in the fog, with our population and the weapons resources we control, we should be able to handle any crises within the fog,"

With these words, the general seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

"Even if there are monsters in the fog, we can still face and combat these devouring creatures."

"Those elite forces all disappeared." The President said mockingly.

"How can you be so sure that we can defeat those yet undetermined monsters?"

The general looked up at the strongest among them and said earnestly, "Sir, because now, it is our entire tribe that is entering the doom fog, not the previous armies that entered in batches."

The President fell silent for a while, then turned to look at the heads of state behind him.

"What do you think?"

The leader of Goryeo spoke, "I think that's all we can do, sir."

The leader of the island nation nodded, "Since the doom fog is unstoppable and cannot be dispersed, we have no choice but to unite. This will be a major crisis for our tribe, and no one can escape it."

Hearing this, the President of the Free Nation turned back to the general and said gravely.

"Then proceed with the plan you have set."

"Yes, sir!" The alien general nodded, retreating from the spot at the gesture of the President of the Free Nation.

Not long after, a tremendous scene unfolded outside.

All the leaves floating on the sea surface were connected by strong chains, linking them all together.

The scene was spectacular.

Under such circumstances, the unstoppable, sky-covering fog pressed down on these densely packed leaves, enveloping everything.
