Chapter 405: Chapter 405: The End
Higa Makoto could only see the aftermath in her peripheral vision, shielded by two figures in front of her. What she didn't know was that the scene was much bigger than she imagined.
Higa Kotoko saw everything.
An entire facade of a building collapsed, obliterated in a display that covered half the sky, mercilessly hurled toward the schoolgirl who had appeared at the intersection and screamed.
The explosive burst of divine energy lit up half the sky.
Higa Kotoko clearly saw that the building debris, which blocked the view and covered half the sky, actually never touched the schoolgirl.
It was merely the periphery of the explosion that dispersed her source of power, the resentment, with a touch, completely annihilating her. This spirit ghost had no defense against it.
"Is this Onii-chan's power?"
Not only Higa Makoto wondered this in her mind, but Higa Kotoko also had the same question.
Such a world-shaking display was beyond her capabilities.
Thinking this, Higa Kotoko instinctively looked at the broad back in front of her and pursed her lips.
The gap between them seemed a bit too vast.
"Let's clear the area to avoid anyone sneaking around and scaring people from inside the buildings."
York smiled, looking at the now-empty expanse where there used to be streets and buildings, observing the debris and ruins. His right hand swept through the air again.
He knew Kayako couldn't possibly die so easily.
What a joke. If Kayako could be killed that easily, she wouldn't have been the shadow haunting his childhood.
The schoolgirl who appeared was probably just an assistant assimilated by Kayako, no, a part of her.
With a sweep of his hand, an invisible force took over everything once more, causing piles of debris to float up into the sky.
Higa Makoto finally didn't need to look past the two people in front of her to witness this spectacular scene.
She was in awe of this display of power.
She instinctively moved closer to her big sister to get a better look.
Before she could look, York's voice followed.
"There you are, Kayako, it is you, isn't it?"
Hearing this, Higa Makoto tilted her head, looking ahead.
Under the floating building debris, on the unobstructed flat ground stood a woman with disheveled hair, bent over, her face unclear, wearing a long white dress. Importantly, the spot she stood on seemed tinted with a reddish hue, giving it an unreal appearance. This reddish mist continuously rose, eventually tainting the floating debris above her with the same color.
Higa Makoto's face turned solemn, knowing that this was the heavy resentment emanating from the spirit ghost, so potent that it corroded the ground she appeared on.
Like the protective talisman her big sister had given her, it was being corroded, attacked.
This was a terrifying spirit ghost.
But what Higa Makoto wondered was why Onii-chan knew this spirit ghost's name, Kayako?
Higa Kotoko, thinking the same, asked, "Onii-chan, do you know this spirit ghost?"
From her experience, this type of spirit ghost belonged to those with lingering attachments who refused reincarnation, composed of tremendous resentment.
Also, judging by her attire, it resembled styles from the 19th and 20th centuries, which seemed entirely unrelated.
Observing the motionless spirit ghost resembling Kayako, York nodded.
"Uh-huh."
He didn't hide his thoughts because there was no need.
"But it's just a guess, not necessarily the spirit ghost I know."
However, just as York responded, a child with a pale face, black eyes, and lips suddenly appeared beside the woman in the white dress.
Seeing this familiar child, York shifted his tone.
"It's definitely the spirit ghost I know, Kotoko, set up a barrier to prevent a sneak attack; it can appear anywhere, anyplace."
As soon as he finished speaking, York didn't wait for Higa Kotoko to respond and took action.
The floating building debris became his weapons, his bullets, and he was the loaded gun.
Kayako was born from towering, indiscriminate hatred towards all humanity, a type of hatred that could not be mitigated by love, so trying to influence her with love was futile.
He wouldn't choose the usual method of dissipating the earthbound spirit's resentment and so-called attachments to deal with Kayako.
Because it was useless, whether it was the Kayako from the movies or this parallel world's Kayako affected by the world's rift energy, he could tell at a glance what the woman before him represented.
After destroying all the buildings, it was evident that the woman in front had transcended the level of an earthbound spirit, becoming a ghost without any restrictions.
In an instant, the floating building debris was sanctified by York in a thought, causing the debris covering
half the sky to emit a pure white glow.
This glow from the debris clashed with the surrounding reddish resentment, flickering in and out of existence.
However, divine energy ultimately had a restraining effect on negative forces, and the reddish resentment quickly dissipated.
This process was momentary; by the time this scene unfolded, the sanctified building debris slowly rotated in the air, sharpening into fine points aimed at Kayako and the child, dusting down as fine powder, turning into sharp spikes.
Kayako finally looked up.
She was immune to physical attacks but not to those infused with divine energy.
At this moment, York and the others finally saw Kayako's true face.
A pale, delicate face, with eyes, nose, and mouth dripping red blood.
The Higa sisters felt a chill, the spirit ghost's resentment so heavy it became tangible.
Higa Kotoko, holding a talisman, had already prepared a protective circle with white clay on the ground with her sister's help. The barrier was formed, spells circulating with spiritual power, yet she still felt a hint of danger.
She looked at the broad back before her.
York's response was simple; all the sharp, spike-like tips in the air were fiercely directed at Kayako and the child.
Dense, like a swarm of ants charging at a mountain of flesh.
Kayako continued to look up, opening her mouth.
The mouth opened to a black void but exploded with tremendous force.
A massive sonic boom erupted.
The dense spikes turned into debris at that moment.
Ripples spread from her as the center, mixed with a trace of resentment.
There was no sound of performance, but inexplicably, it made one's skin tingle, sensing danger.
"Onii-chan!"
Higa Kotoko instinctively wanted to help.
York raised his hand to stop her, speaking softly with a smile.
"Seeing how quickly those paranormal events were controlled without causing more damage, you've used up a lot of spiritual power. Let me handle this one; you can take the next turn."
With that, he waved his hand forward.
A torrential force collided with the ripples in front of him under his fan motion.
The two forces clashed, producing a crackling sound, and cracks appeared before York, indicating this space indeed belonged to Kayako's domain.
"For a ghost born from resentment to reach this level is quite impressive."
York had a hint of admiration in his eyes, but it didn't concern him greatly.
For someone familiar with Kayako, he naturally knew that the spike-like objects in the air were useless against her.
But his attack was not just that.
As the thought occurred, the spikes that should have been destroyed suddenly reappeared, continuing their trajectory towards Kayako.
Unlike the previous spikes, these were made from a combination of divine energy and magic.
The form of the objects disappeared, but the energy lurking within them did not vanish unless they either endured an attack or countered one.
Kayako's mouth did not close, but her counter was so simple; her long hair rapidly extended, colliding with the incoming spikes.
Bang, bang, bang!
A fireworks display occurred here.
The explosion of the spikes was like the final brilliance of fireworks, also taking away the pitch-black hair.
For a moment, the brilliant fireworks gradually approached Kayako, and the overwhelming black hair slowly shortened.
This was a situation of restraint; Kayako's resentment was continuously being consumed.
When the fireworks exploded on her, it meant either certain death or severe injury.
Either escape or continue to deplete in a confrontation.
Perhaps Kayako could feel this too, as she let her hair continue to collide with the spikes, her mouth closed, staring ahead at York with her white-eyed gaze, then harshly grabbed the head of the child beside her.
But the next second, a voice followed.
"With this offering!"
York's hands quickly formed a seal, revealing a smile, and lightly uttered a spell.
"Reveal the true intention, arrange the five directions, arrive at the splendid Ameno Miyashiro Rai Rin Kou Kou Gen Sei Shin Shi."
Using a targeted spell effect, a burst of white light erupted from him.
The entire space centered on Kayako witnessed a massive vertical column of light shoot up.
"Seal! Forbid!"
As soon as the column formed, it quickly converged, enveloping Kayako and the child, eventually forming a circular binding magic circle.
At this moment, Kayako, still clutching the child's head, disappeared from her spot, and the spikes hit where she had been standing, piercing the ground and forming numerous small holes.
The next second, Kayako and the child were hit out of their original forms in a ripple within the circle.
"Still trying to run? Fancy a sneak attack? You won't get away before my power is exhausted." York quickly changed the seal in his hands.
Living in the island country, he wasn't just sitting idle; with the Higa sisters around, he also knew what needed to be known, and even what
they didn't know, he did, although he lacked the special spiritual power that could double the effect of spells, but he had divine energy and could transform all magic, capable of releasing the effects of spells, though not doubling them.
"But I have quantity, and quantity will eventually lead to a qualitative change."
York's smile remained unchanged, his hands already forming another seal after Kayako disappeared again, his fingers tightly interlocked, index fingers extended and touching.
"Approach!"
Continuing with the hand seals, York's middle fingers covered the index fingers.
"Troops!"
The index fingers retracted, middle fingers extended and touched.
"Fight!"
York's hand seals became faster, and before the next word was uttered, the seals changed again, thumb, index, and little fingers extended and touched, the rest tightly interlocked.
His demeanor began to exude a tranquil and peaceful aura, spreading out, making the Higa sisters behind him feel increasingly relaxed, the oppressive atmosphere instantly refreshing.
"All!"
This represented the power to freely control one's own and others' bodies.
York's expression unchanged, watched the circle of confinement that kept rippling without anything inside, his fingers retracting tightly, left hand in front.
"Array!"
As he spoke, York's hand seals changed again, forming the Wisdom Fist Seal.
"In!"
Both hands tightly interlocked, right hand in front.
"Line!"
Fingers extended, palms outward, thumbs and index fingers touching.
"Front!"
Calmly finishing this sentence, York looked on, seemingly seeing the somewhat furiously embarrassed Kayako showing herself, watching the bursting resentment hitting the confinement shield, and finally, his hand seal turned into a serene seal.
"Go!"
Each word eventually formed a complete phrase.
Approach troops, fight, all array in front, go; the Nine Character Mantra dispels all evil.
York's face became solemn, and the divine power within him was rapidly depleted by his choice, instantly using up tens of thousands of units.
Then, he pushed forward.
An immense force exploded within the circle shield.
Boom! A dazzling white light replaced everything inside the circle shield, leaving nothing else.
Ah! Ah!
Only that scream was heard, finally revealing Kayako and the child's figures, like white clothes with obvious stains, both screaming with gaping mouths, their resentment continuously turning into wisps and then dissipating in the air.
The two continued to struggle, constantly releasing resentment.
But no matter what, it was futile.
The consumption of the two sides was completely disproportionate; the spirit ghost's power was ultimately restrained.
Also, because of the restraint, Kayako and the child could not deplete enough, nor could they shake the divine power with the effect of dispelling evil.
Suddenly, Kayako, with red blood streaming from her eyes, stared fiercely at York, harshly grabbing the constantly screaming child's head and moving it toward her mouth.
She actually wanted to devour the child to enhance her own power to resist.
But the child grabbed Kayako's hand in return, showing a refusal.
Kayako stopped, looking at the child.
The child shook his head and hugged Kayako in return.
For the first time, a hesitant expression appeared on Kayako's emotionless face, but she made no further moves, similarly hugging the child in her arms, staring at the three in front of her until finally dissipating into a wisp of resentment within the white light.
The white clothes were washed clean, the stains disappeared, and the circle shield still existed, the white light continuing to burst forth.
York watched this scene from beginning to end, sighed in his heart, and was not moved by the scene just witnessed.
These two spirit ghosts were ultimately spirit ghosts, and Kayako's hatred for the world and any notion of salvation were simply incompatible.
Even if Kayako had devoured the child, it would have been futile, merely a matter of time.
Kayako probably understood this too, so she chose to surrender when the child refused, otherwise...
So believing that Kayako could be influenced was less likely than believing pigs could fly.
"It's over."
York watched the rapidly dissolving space, turned back to look at the Higa sisters standing quietly behind him.
Higa Kotoko was still holding the talisman, Higa Makoto had already run out of the protective circle toward York.
"Onii-chan! You're amazing!"
Saying this, she actually bent forward.
York's mouth twitched, seeing Higa Makoto's intent to jump over, he directly placed his hand on her forehead, stopping her motion.
"Did you see? Don't act alone until you have enough experience and ability."
Higa Makoto, stopped by this touch, paused in her intended leap, only able to grasp the warm hand on her forehead, recalling the terrifying spirit ghost, and replied.
"I got it!"
