8. Emergency!
After only a few minutes of work, Raine moved slower and slower and finally stopped.
"Captain, I... I can't row anymore." Avril looked timidly at the bow, afraid the fierce boat would scold her.
"Eh, take a break then. I'd forgotten you'd been floating in the sea for days. By the way, there are a few pieces of dried fish on the boat. You can have some first."
"May I?" Avril said cautiously. She was a little unconvinced that this guy who had grabbed her plank and bra had such a gentle side.
"Sure."
With Raine's permission, Avril obviously was hungry and grabbed the dried fish and ate it in one big bite, without any image at all. Raine wondered if all daughters of the sea were so spontaneous.
After a few bites, Avril suddenly thought of something and turned to White and said, "White, I'm sorry I ate your dried food, but don't worry, I'll catch more fish when I have the strength. By the way, are you hungry? You should eat some too."
Although White's food was good, Avril could still consider White when she was so hungry made Raine think highly of Avril.
Just now, Raine had been wary of Avril.
Raine was sympathetic to Avril's plight and wanted to trust her. But after all, they had only just met times. He had to be careful.
As to whether Avril was trustworthy or not, time and experience would tell.
Rainerelaxed a little when he saw Avril was eating with White. He opened the information panel and began to check it.
[Host: Raine] [Vessel: Small single-deck plank ship] [Crew Size: 2] [Ship Speed:? (Open for details)] [Crew Size: 2] [Combat Power: 1.5] [Loading Capacity: 79.6/300 (kg)] [Evolutionary Progress: 0.1/50 (Wood)] |
The clothes were almost dry by now, so their weight would not change again. White is 20kg, and Avril is 50kg, so the total weight of the supplies on Raine was almost 10kg.
"Holy shit, the ship‘s speed surprisingly changed, but what the hell is that question mark?"
Raine hurriedly opened the "Ship Speed" option, and a new list of information appeared in Raine's mind.
[Power Equipment: Oars*2] [Power System: Manual Power] |
The speed of the ship: Manual power is affected by the individual differences of the crew and the state of the individual, so it is impossible to count the ship's speed. (Adding crew members can reduce the effect of individual differences)] |
"Eh?" Raine thought about it and found the system had a point. There was only one person on board who could row - Avril.
By analogy, if 50 people were rowing simultaneously, it would be different again.
From this point of view, the crew seems quite important.
Although the results were a little frustrating, Raine also saw some encouraging results.
Although the ship's speed is not yet displayed, Raine at least has been equipped with "power equipment" and "power systems," which is a historic step forward!
"Not bad, quite an improvement!" Raine nodded in satisfaction with the bow sank twice. Avril and White were almost thrown off.
Raine ignored them and continued to check the next item.
Supplies Gathered: 79 |
"That much?" Raine was a little surprised that there were 79 pieces of those supplies.
Newly collected supplies (68): cotton and linen clothing (16), plastic bottles (4), antibiotic medicine (47), life preservers (1) |
Existing supplies (11): fish skin rope (6), fish bone spikes (4), small simple seawater purification device (1) |
Raine looked at the small bottle of medicine and finally understood that the bottle of antibiotics contained 47 capsules, which was why his supplies looked so large.
"Damn, Happy for nothing." Raine was just about to shake his head when he thought he almost threw Avril and White off earlier and forced himself to hold back.
"Open the manufacturing list."
The manufacturing list now had two sub-options, one "New Manufacturable Item List" and one "Existing Manufacturable Item List."
The existing item list was still the same 5 items. Fish skin boat bottom, short rope, fish bone nails, dried fish, and small simple seawater purification device.
Raine had already remembered these things and quickly skipped them,
"Check the new items."
New Manufacturable Item List: 4 |
Hemp Rope: 157/1 (Cotton and linen material) Tougher than short ropes made from fish skin, can be used to secure masts, sails, etc., and is a common item for sailing. |
Sisal fishing net: 157/50 (hemp rope) used for fishing, you can set the width of the net mouth, and the nets can be spliced. |
Buoy: 4/1 (plastic bottle) 0.1/1 (wood) 0/1 (stone) for marking |
Rubber bottom: 1/10 (rubber) increase the buoyancy of the boat, improve the load and reduce the corrosion of the bottom |
"I can make so many things... Huh, no? Where's my mast? Where are my sails? Why don't I have these two things?" Raine was a bit confused, "Does the system hide something good away?"
No, he couldn't trust the system this time. Raine was gonna ask his crew member, professional fisherman Avril.
"Hey, Avril!"
"Eh? Captain, you calling me?" Avril put down her dried fish and looked at the bow.
"Can I rig a mast and sails on my boat?"
"Huh?" Avril was a little baffled, she was a little confused as to why the captain was asking her this question, but since the captain had asked it, she answered it, "Uh, let me see."
Avril looked closely at the planking, and after a while, she suddenly exclaimed, "Oh Captain, your boat... No, your body... only has one layer of planking, but the craft is so good. The mortise and tenon inlay is so perfect. I've never seen such fine woodwork."
"Stop, stop, stop, get to the point," Raine said.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but you can't fit a mast with only one plank."
"Why!" Raine asked defiantly.
"Masts generally are very long. The mast must be firmly fixed to the hull to keep them balanced. In general, it should go deep inside several layers of planking. You only have one layer of planking, and once you insert it, it will be through, and then the boat will leak."
Raine has nothing to say. With his small frame, he couldn't install the mast... Still, an item that didn't appear in the system only meant he did not have enough levels!
"Oops, Captain." Avril was still checking out the planking, her small hands gently stroking it and her face frowning as if worried about something, "The bottom of the ship isn't safe like this. It will easily take on water without a coating, even with good craftsmanship."
"That bad?"
"Yeah!" Avril affirmed, "We may sink before we reach the island."
Oh my god! What a shitty boat! It's worse than a bamboo raft! At least the raft won't sink.
