Xu Ruyun’s eyes dimmed as she quietly gestured for the female officials from the Supervision Department who had followed to cover their mouths and noses.

“There are other guests in the inn.”

Xu Yanru’s mind was meticulous: “We should split up. I’ll take a team in first and create chaos by searching the rooms, giving you a chance to catch the Black Wolf Guards.”

“Alright.”

Xu Ruyun nodded solemnly.

“You, come with me.”

Xu Yanru waved her hand and led several female officials from the Supervision Department into the inn with an air of majesty.

Soon after, the sound of chaos came from inside the inn. Some people angrily opened their doors, only to see the female officials from the Imperial Court and quickly softening their stance, shutting their mouths and doors.

A gap opened in the window at the westernmost end of the second floor, and someone peered out through the crack.

“Aunt Xu, the Black Wolf Guards are in that room.”

Lin Qingluo picked up a small stone from the ground and flicked it with her finger, aiming at the window.

A sharp sound whizzed over, and the stone accurately shot through the crack, hitting the watcher’s nose.

“Ah!”

The person screamed in pain and stumbled back, blood streaming from their nose.

“Ambush! Run!”

The remaining five Black Wolf Guards paled and fled, grabbing their weapons as they went.

“Stop them!”

Xu Yanru’s sword came out of its scabbard, blocking the path of a Black Wolf Guard in the blink of an eye.

Seeing their cover blown, the Black Wolf Guard’s face twisted with rage as they raised their saber to slash at her viciously.

The two of them were engaged in a life-and-death struggle in the blink of an eye, their weapons clashing furiously.

Xu Ruyun gestured with her right hand and led the charge to the inn, surrounding and trapping the remaining Black Wolf Guards.

“Poisonous smoke!”

Suddenly, thick smoke filled the inside of the inn. Guests who inhaled the smoke immediately felt their heads spin and their legs become weak, collapsing to the ground.

The female officials from the Supervision Department who had followed Xu Yanru into the inn were fortunate to have black cloth covering their faces, sparing them from immediate harm. However, their eyes were still painfully irritated by the poison smoke, making their vision blurry.

Lin Qingluo silently cursed and ran into the inn like a bolt of lightning, holding her breath as she navigated the poisonous smoke, pulling several female officials from the Supervision Department out of the inn.

“Swish!”

A sharp sword light assaulted her from behind, carrying a deadly intent.

She swiftly turned her body, relying on sound alone to determine the attacker’s position, and shot out two invisible gusts of sword energy with a wave of her hand.

“Pfft, pfft.”

Two muffled noises echoed as the Black Wolf Guard, who had been hiding in the smoke and launching a sneak attack, was struck through both their heart and forehead, collapsing to the ground.

The sounds of fighting continued outside the inn.

Utilizing the cover of the poison smoke, the Black Wolf Guards who had slipped out were intercepted by Xu Ruyun and her party, locked in fierce combat.

Inside the inn, the sounds of sword and saber clashes continued.

Lin Qingluo’s heart sank as she followed the sound and rushed over.

Xu Yanru’s clothes were stained with blood, her eyes stinging and throbbing from the poison smoke, leaving her no choice but to close her eyes and continue fighting the Black Wolf Guard.
