Eros in Fairytail

Chapter 5: Chapter 4: Trying Magic

'I'M GOING TO FUCKING CASTRATE YOU, MOTHERFCKER!' That was Eros's first thought upon waking up. 'My whole body hurts. That fuking asshole—he'll pay with blood when I get my powers back.'

"Where am I?" Eros asked himself, controlling his emotions despite his frustration. He was slightly surprised by his surroundings. The room was dark, making it impossible to see anything. Movement was difficult as well, which prevented him from exploring further. "It's too dark to see anything, but..." Closing his eyes, he began releasing magical power around him to "sense" the space. After fifteen seconds, however, his breathing quickened, and sweat formed on his forehead. "Bad idea, but at least I know what's in the room now. It's empty—a 9-by-6-meter space with absolutely nothing. Still, I found something interesting." Closing his eyes again, he started absorbing ether from the air.

An hour later, his magic was fully restored, which even Eros found surprising. After all, Lily once told him that Rick needed at least half a day to recover 70% of his magic when completely drained. Yet Eros had managed to restore everything in just an hour.

"Okay, I'll think about that later. For now, I need to try something." Closing his eyes, he conducted magic power through his body, moving it from his toes to the top of his head and back.

With just the first cycle, Eros felt the pain in his body diminish. The speed of his recovery increased with each passing second.

This process continued for nearly two hours until Eros suddenly opened his eyes. "It's easier now," he said with a satisfied smile, stretching slightly before standing up. "But I shouldn't heal completely just yet; they might suspect something." He sat down again, releasing magic power beyond his body. "I should thank these idiots. The room is surrounded by a barrier that prevents magic power from leaking out, meaning no one can stop me from training." As he released magic power, his body quickly absorbed it from the air, creating a continuous cycle.

For three days, Eros trained relentlessly. During this time, he increased his magic restoration speed from an hour to fifty-eight minutes—a significant improvement. After all, most wizards spent months, even years, to shave even a minute off their restoration time.

Eros also spent this time contemplating his elemental affinity. A memory surfaced of a peculiar planet he had once visited, called Loy'A. The inhabitants of Loy'A could wield the power of nature, but only on their planet. When they left its atmosphere, they lost all their abilities and became ordinary beings. Eros had stayed there for nearly a year, studying their unique abilities. He read every book in their library and, with the King's permission, studied nearly twenty of the inhabitants. Despite his efforts, Eros had failed to instill their power within himself and left the planet empty-handed.

Now, recalling his time on Loy'A, Eros thought of a theory he had read in one of their books: the theory of elemental alignment. According to the book, a person's elemental affinity could be determined by their character traits. For instance, those who were hot-tempered, aggressive, and courageous were often aligned with fire. Calm, adaptable, and sometimes unstable individuals resonated with water. People with strong bodies and unyielding wills leaned toward earth, while air was associated with sociable, curious personalities. The theory acknowledged exceptions, however, and was therefore not universally accepted.

Pondering this theory, Eros tried to align himself with each element to determine his affinity. But no matter how much he analyzed himself, he couldn't reach a definitive conclusion.

Fire seemed to suit him well, but Eros didn't consider himself particularly brave or decisive. Yes, he had sacrificed himself for his loved ones, but even in that situation, he demonstrated traits of earth—strength, willpower, and an unshakable resolve to act. At the same time, his calmness in the face of that sacrifice could link him to water. His recent experiences in the dark room had left his psyche slightly unstable, but not enough for him to consider himself unbalanced.

As he delved deeper into his thoughts, a seemingly absurd idea struck him. Without hesitation, he decided to try it. Of course, the first ten... a hundred... a thousand... countless attempts later, and with just as many nerve-wracking failures...

****************

Eros stared at the transparent white square in his hand, a stupidly wide grin spreading across his face. He had done it—the titan had created exactly what he wanted. All that remained was to test it. Approaching one of the room's corners, he began channeling magic power into the cube. It expanded rapidly, but the magic power drained just as quickly. Within a minute, Eros had expended nearly 90% of his energy, and the cube had grown to a size of 1 by 1 meter.

"Well, time to test you out, baby," Eros grinned. "Don't disappoint me." As soon as the cube touched the ground, it rapidly expanded to 3 by 3 meters. Then, it began to glow before vanishing entirely—along with everything within its boundaries.

"The power of destruction," Eros murmured, a satisfied tone in his voice as he sank to the floor to recover. Yes, destruction—that was the idea that had come to him. He remembered the power he'd once obtained from that stone, and the concept had taken shape in his mind. Now, he had brought it to life.

With his element decided, the real challenge began. He needed to expand his magical reserves because the power of destruction consumed energy at an alarming rate. He also had to develop new techniques that would be practical in battle. The cube he'd just created, while impressive, wasn't suited for combat. For large-scale destruction, he could always use his second energy.

Over the next three days, Eros focused on creating new techniques. Only at the end of the third day did he finalize one. He called it the "Bullet of Destruction." The name spoke for itself. Scratching his head, Eros looked at the wall, now riddled with holes, each about ten centimeters in diameter.

"This is the best I can manage for now," he thought, sighing as he pointed his index finger at the wall again. A small white magic circle appeared at the tip of his finger before vanishing, and another hole materialized in the wall.

"Hmm... The bullet's invisibility is definitely an advantage. It's nearly impossible to dodge." Eros evaluated his creation. "If I had to rank it, it'd be at least a B, maybe even an A. The bullet flies exactly where I point my finger. The cost is minimal, but with my current reserves, it's still a lot—each bullet consumes 1% of my magic power."

Eros spent the next hour recovering. Then, the sound of a lock clicking broke the silence.

The dungeon door creaked open, flooding the dark room with bright light.

"Come on, hurry up and take this trash to the master. He's already waiting..." The man who stepped in froze, his eyes wide with shock. What he saw resembled a battlefield. The walls were riddled with hundreds of perfectly shaped holes of varying sizes, and in the center of the room stood a grinning boy, pointing a finger directly at him.

"I'll give you a choice," Eros said with a sharp smile. "First: show me your food warehouse. After I eat, we'll go find your master's fat ass."

Eros hadn't eaten in a week, surviving solely on ether and suppressing his emotions. For a proper meal, he was ready to kill.

"Second," he continued, his voice turning colder, "you die here, and I'll find someone smarter to escort me."

"Who the hell do you think you are, you little brat—" The man didn't finish his sentence. Blood spewed from his mouth, and where his heart should have been, there was now a gaping hole. His lifeless eyes reflected pure animalistic terror as he collapsed.

"Wrong choice," Eros sighed, shaking his head before turning his gaze to the second man, who was trembling violently.

"And what about you?" Eros asked, his tone deceptively calm. "Do you want to play hero too?"

"N-no! I'll do whatever you want! Just don't kill me!" The man dropped to his knees, his entire body shaking in fear. To him, Eros no longer looked human—he was a demon.

"Nice!" Eros exclaimed, his grin returning. "If only your friend had been as smart. But let's not speak ill of the dead—after all, it's either kind words or nothing at all." He clapped his hands, his voice light. "Alright, show me where the food is. I'm starving."

At that moment, Eros's stomach let out a loud rumble. He chuckled awkwardly, rubbing his abdomen. "Sorry. I haven't eaten in almost seven days."

"Y-yes, of course! This way!" The man stammered, leading Eros out of the room. His hands trembled, and every faint noise made him flinch and glance nervously at the boy.

Five minutes later, they arrived at a wooden door radiating magical energy. As it opened, a cold blast of air hit them.

"Ice magic?" Eros observed, nodding in approval. "Good. That means the ingredients are fresh."

"Y-yes, very smart of you!" the man said with a nervous smile. "This is an artifact with 'thermos' magic. The master bought it in one of the cities. It keeps the room at a pre-set temperature."

"Interesting," Eros replied, clearly pleased. "Alright, show me the meat—and no funny business."

"YES!" The man hurried inside and grabbed a package wrapped in white paper from one of the shelves. "Here! This is Wild Bull meat—a magical beast. It's very tasty and nutritious."

Eros frowned, and the man's face paled. Sweat beaded on his forehead. "W-what's wrong?"

"What do you take me for, some kind of animal?" Eros raised an eyebrow. "You should cook it—or at least fry it."

"Right away! My apologies!" A glowing orange magic circle appeared in the man's hand, and a small fireball materialized. He quickly began roasting the meat. "Just give me five minutes!"

"Why is he so nervous?" Eros wondered, slightly amused. He dismissed the thought, sat down on a bag, and waited patiently.
