Chapter 6 - Heartbreak, Piece by Piece!
Chapter 6: Heartbreak, Piece by Piece!
Wu Jing fell silent for a moment, then said very seriously, “My greatest success is meeting my partner, Xie Nan.”
“When we were filming Wolf Warrior, we didn’t have money. We kept looking for investors, but no one was interested in investing in a military-themed movie. No one was willing to invest in it.”
“We were so broke, I had to mortgage my house to the bank.”
“When I told my partner, Xie Nan, about this, I was really nervous. I thought she would be extremely upset, and I thought she would get mad at me.”
“But my partner wasn’t like that. She gently said something to me that I will never forget for the rest of my life.”
“She said: ‘Go ahead and film. If we lose, I still have a small house. I will take care of you! If we lose, I will be here for you to rise again. If we win, I will stand by you as you rule the world!'”
As Wu Jing spoke, his voice became slightly choked with emotion.
Lack of funds, no one believing in the project, taking on the roles of both director and lead actor, and in order to achieve authentic effects, Wu Jing refused to use a stunt double—there was even one time he nearly drowned in the water.
The hardships he faced are not something that can easily be described to outsiders.
Under all this pressure and the many doubts, Wu Jing couldn’t afford to show any weakness, because there was an entire crew relying on him.
He carried all the pressure on his shoulders. Even if the whole world didn’t believe in him, he still had to firmly tell everyone in the crew: “We will make it!”
The pressure and doubts Wu Jing endured at that time were unimaginable unless you had experienced it yourself.
But what surprised Wu Jing even more was that his partner, Xie Nan, supported and understood him like this!
“Sometimes, I think to myself, ‘What good deeds did I do in my past life that the heavens allowed me to marry such a wonderful woman?'” Wu Jing’s eyes welled up with tears. Even though so much time had passed, thinking about it still moved him to tears.
Yang Fan handed two tissues to Wu Jing, allowing him a moment to regain his composure.
Wu Jing wiped his tears and then continued.
“In my life, I’ve trained every muscle, but I never trained my ability to speak.”
“I’ve walked many paths, changed directions many times, and I don’t dare to say I have any great achievements. But today, I think the only thing I can show off is that I have the best wife in the world.”
When Wu Jing spoke with such emotion, he could no longer hold back his tears.
It was clear that he could no longer continue the interview.
As the host, Yang Fan had to respond quickly.
He switched to a loud, fast-paced song.
Then he gave a subtle signal to Hao Yue, and they both said in unison, “A man’s greatest success is having a good life partner.”
“Exactly, but everything is mutual. If a man doesn’t have the determination to succeed in his career, how can he earn his partner’s unconditional support?” Hao Yue beautifully responded.
“Hey, Hao Yue, do you think you can be a good wife?” Yang Fan teased, all while keeping an eye on Wu Jing’s emotional state.
He tried his best to give Wu Jing more time to stabilize his emotions.
Hao Yue paused for three seconds and then smiled. “First, I need to have a boyfriend before I can answer that question.”
Yang Fan exaggeratedly shouted, “Attention everyone at the station! Hao Yue is single!”
Hao Yue instantly blushed, flustered and was at a loss for words.
Luckily, by this time, Wu Jing had regained his composure: “Couldn’t someone from your station consider it?”
“Mr. Wu Jing, aren’t you worried your wife might lock you out tonight?” Yang Fan said with feigned concern. “Although our station’s ratings aren’t stellar, it’s still something to watch out for!”
After all, this was a formal interview!
Wu Jing laughed and said, “I’m just helping others find someone. What’s there to fear?”
“Others? Who?” Yang Fan pretended not to understand.
“Of course, it’s for Old Hu, the abandoned child of Xian Jian (a popular Chinese TV series). I seriously think that without help, he will never find a partner in his life,” Wu Jing said with a troubled expression.
As an old friend of Hu, Wu Jing was really worried about him!
However, he wasn’t actually trying to set up Hu; it was more of a joke…
Yang Fan laughed and looked at Wu Jing. “I heard that Wu Jing and Hu Ge’s new movie is about to finish filming. Can you share the movie’s name with our listeners?”
“Of course, the new movie is called The Climbers. It’s expected to be released next month. We hope it won’t disappoint everyone!” Wu Jing said, giving a little promotion for The Climbers.
“Make sure to go watch Wu Jing’s new movie!”
“And once again, thank you to Wu Jing for joining us on the show.”
“Now, it’s time for a commercial. We’ll be right back after the break!”
Two hours flew by, and once the show was finished, Wu Jing quietly left.
As soon as the broadcast ended, Hao Yue immediately crowded around Yang Fan, chattering nonstop. “Sir, I was so nervous earlier. Did I say anything wrong? Did I mess anything up?”
“Sir, if I didn’t do something well, please tell me, I’ll fix it. I can improve!”
Yang Fan picked up a can of cola that someone had left on his desk and took a sip. “Having such good improvisation skills on your first time is already impressive. Keep working hard!”
Hao Yue happily bowed repeatedly. “Thank you, Sir! Thank you! I will keep trying my best.”
Hao Yue ran back to her desk, excitedly doing a self-assessment.
The male host from the back desk lightly patted Yang Fan’s shoulder. “Hey, is Hao Yue really single, or is she just saying it just for your show?”
“I don’t know. If you’re curious, go ask her,” Yang Fan replied without looking up, his mind preoccupied with some paperwork.
The director, wearing high heels that clicked on the floor, came over with a big smile and said to Shi Lei, “Shi Lei, I just asked. Hao Yue is single. Go for it!”
Shi Lei immediately became excited and smugly patted Yang Fan’s shoulder. “Did you see? I’ve got divine assistance. No need for your help.”
“Cut it out,” Yang Fan rolled his eyes.
Shi Lei, looking eager, walked over to Hao Yue’s desk, trying to be friendly. “Hao Yue, if you don’t understand something, just ask me. I’ll teach you.”
“Ah?” Hao Yue was startled and quickly waved her hand. “No, no, I’ll ask Sir Yang Fan if I don’t understand anything.”
“Sure, but if your Sir is too busy, you can come to me,” Shi Lei said.
“Thanks, I’ll keep this in my mind,” Hao Yue politely responded.
Shi Lei scratched his head nervously. “Hao Yue, are you single?”
Hao Yue froze for a second and then replied firmly, “No!”
Shi Lei: “??”
“??”
“??”
Why, when the director asked her if she was single, she said yes, but when he asked, she said no? What does this mean? Is she rejecting him?
Shi Lei’s heart shattered into pieces.
Hao Yue looked at Shi Lei, who was interrupting her work, and asked, “Do you still have something to do?” She couldn’t hold back any longer and told him to leave.
Shi Lei, feeling like his soul had left his body, said, “No, nothing. You go ahead.”
He wandered back to Yang Fan, not at all pleased with the situation. He snatched the report from Yang Fan’s hand and jokingly said, “One month, I’ll give you a month’s worth of work.”
“You go ask Hao Yue if she’s single!” Even though he was rejected, he had to drag someone else into his misery; otherwise, it would be too awkward.
Yang Fan chuckled. “Didn’t you already ask her?”
“Why are you asking so many questions? Just tell me if you want me to do this report for you or not.” Shi Lei’s eyes widened, clearly eager to move past this painful topic.
“Alright, one month. No less than one day!”
“No problem!”
Yang Fan immediately dialed Hao Yue’s extension. “Hao Yue, come here for a moment.”
“Okay, Sir.”
“Oh, you’re directly calling her over? No, no, I’m hiding.” Shi Lei quickly scampered to a corner, trying to avoid the awkwardness.
“Sir, you’re looking for me?” Hao Yue nervously looked at Yang Fan, afraid he would scold her.
“Mm, these documents contain some of our show’s highlights from past episodes. Take a look at them later.”
“Got it, I’ll analyze them carefully,” Hao Yue replied seriously, waiting for Yang Fan to continue.
“Hao Yue, earlier on the live broadcast, you said you’re single. Is that true?” Yang Fan casually asked.
Hao Yue shyly hid her face behind the files and softly replied, “Yes, I’m really single!”
