Chapter 11 - Descendants of Heroes!

Chapter 11 – Descendants of Heroes!

Talent scout Xiao Liu and Yang Fan rushed to the filming site of The Climbers as fast as they could.

To create the most authentic shooting effects, many scenes of the movie were filmed on real snow-covered mountains instead of using green screens.

At this moment, the crew was stationed on a snowy mountain.

With Xiao Liu leading the way, Yang Fan managed to blend into the crew with little effort.

To avoid unnecessary trouble, Yang Fan brought only two interview pens with him—microphones and cameras were out of the question, not even worth considering!

Xiao Liu pointed out the director and assistant director to Yang Fan, explaining who the extras should listen to for instructions. He rambled on for a while, clearly not at ease, before finally leaving the set.

Yang Fan wasn’t really there to play the role of an extra, so there was no way he’d obediently sit in the extras’ rest area waiting for instructions.

Taking advantage of the crew head not paying attention, Yang Fan sneaked out of the extras’ area.

But he hadn’t walked far when he bumped into a suspicious-looking middle-aged woman.

The woman, Qu Hong, jumped in shock, almost letting out a scream.

Yang Fan quickly gestured for her to stay quiet, signaling her to keep silent.

Qu Hong scrutinized Yang Fan from head to toe, while Yang Fan also observed this sneaky woman.

“Could this be a fellow reporter?”

“Doesn’t seem right. This lady’s a bit old for that. Even if she is a reporter, such harsh outdoor shoots wouldn’t be assigned to someone her age. Her stamina wouldn’t hold up!”

“Are you an actor?” Qu Hong finally broke the silence.

“I am. And you are?” Yang Fan cautiously studied Qu Hong, still unsure of her identity.

Qu Hong smiled, hurriedly pulling Yang Fan aside and saying excitedly, “Hello, hello, hello! I’m just a passerby who snuck in.”

“Young man, please don’t get me kicked out. I just want to take a look at who’s playing Qu Yin Hua from a distance.”

“You’re an actor in the crew, so you must know who’s playing Qu Yin Hua, right? Could you take me to see him from afar? I’ll leave after that, I promise I won’t cause any trouble.” Qu Hong pleaded desperately.

She only wanted to catch a glimpse from a distance, just one look, and then she would leave!

Yang Fan looked at her suspiciously. He had heard of fans sneaking onto sets to meet celebrities, but never fans chasing after a character from an unreleased film.

Something’s off about this woman.

“May I ask, what’s your relationship with Qu Yin Hua?” Yang Fan asked.

Qu Hong sniffled and smiled bittersweetly. “Qu Yin Hua was my late father. This movie is about the 1960 expedition team that my father was part of.”

Yang Fan’s heart skipped a beat. He immediately stood at attention. “So you’re the descendant of an old hero!”

“To my knowledge, the actor playing Qu Yin Hua is the award-winning Zhang Yi. You can rest assured, he will definitely do your father justice!” Yang Fan said sincerely.

Qu Hong beamed with joy. “That’s wonderful—it’s Zhang Yi! It’s Zhang Yi!”

“Young man, may I ask you for a favor?”

“Please go ahead,” Yang Fan replied quickly.

“I’m not part of the crew, so I can’t reach Zhang Yi. Could you help me hand these photos my father left behind to him?”

“Perhaps these photos could help Zhang Yi portray my father more authentically.” As Qu Hong spoke, she handed a few photos to Yang Fan.

“Look at this photo—this is my father, Qu Yin Hua, alongside Uncle Wang Fuzhou and Uncle Gongbu. This was taken on May 25, 1960, when they reached the summit of Mount Everest.”

“They set the precedent for climbing Mount Everest from the northern slope.”

“At that time, my father’s expedition team needed to build a human ladder to climb a sheer cliff.”

“But the crampons (A crampon is a traction device attached to footwear to improve mobility on snow and ice during ice climbing) on their mountaineering boots would injure their teammates, so my father took off his boots and climbed barefoot in the snow for three hours.”

“This ultimately led to the amputation of all ten of his toes. I don’t know if the script includes this part, but I hope you can give these photos to Zhang Yi. Thank you, thank you!” Qu Hong bowed deeply as she spoke.

Yang Fan couldn’t accept the gesture and quickly helped her up.

“Please don’t do that. Let me take you to meet Zhang Yi and the director. As the descendant of Qu Yin Hua, it’s an honor for the entire crew to have you here!”

Qu Hong looked at Yang Fan in disbelief. “Can I really meet the director? Can I really meet Zhang Yi?”

“You dared to sneak into the crew; why hesitate at the final step?” Yang Fan teased with a smile.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Qu Hong wiped her tears. “Alright, I’ll go. I’ll go with you!”

Without Qu Hong, Yang Fan would’ve had to sneak around carefully, afraid of being discovered as a journalist.

But with her by his side, Yang Fan felt fearless.

Leading Qu Hong, Yang Fan boldly walked towards the main shooting location.

When the assistant director saw Yang Fan and Qu Hong approaching, he immediately objected.

“Hey, hey, hey! Aren’t you the extra we just brought in? Why are you breaking the rules? Extras aren’t allowed here! Get back to your area!” the assistant director scolded unhappily.

Qu Hong shrank back nervously behind Yang Fan, afraid of being thrown out.

Yang Fan remained calm and approached the assistant director. “I know the rules, but I believe this lady has the right to be here.”

The assistant director frowned and was about to lose his temper when Yang Fan firmly pressed him back into his seat.

Yang Fan then calmly recounted everything Qu Hong had told him.

The assistant director’s anger dissipated instantly, replaced by shock and even a trace of respect and courtesy in his gaze toward Qu Hong.

“Alright, you two follow me. The main actors just finished a scene and are resting.”

“Ms. Qu, when you meet Director Li, you can share the details about the 1960 expedition team with him. He’s the chief director, so any script changes would be up to him.” The assistant director kindly advised.

“Thank you, thank you so much!” Qu Hong expressed her gratitude with another deep bow.

Startled, the assistant director quickly stepped back to help her up, glaring at Yang Fan in the process.

Yang Fan looked innocent. “What does this have to do with me?”

The assistant director paused, noting Yang Fan’s expressive face. “This extra has potential. With some training, he could go far.”

Meanwhile, Wu Jing was sitting nearby, drinking water and resting. He casually glanced over and saw the assistant director bringing two people over.

Initially, Wu Jing didn’t pay much attention, but the more he looked, the more familiar one of them seemed.

Wu Jing stared harder and finally confirmed that it was none other than Yang Fan, the host he had parted ways with not long ago!

Wu Jing’s expression was one of pure shock, as though he had just seen a ghost.

“What’s this guy doing here? Isn’t he a radio host? How did he end up here?”
