Chapter 572: Terror of the Void Creatures
--
The data brought by Redstone's breakthrough was incredibly valuable not only to Cedric but to everybody as well. Though obviously, those who would benefit from it soon-ish would, of course, be those who are nearing their breakthroughs.
Cedric himself was included amongst those people. No, he's not at the 9th Stage of the Void Refinement Realm right now, but he's getting there. In these past five years, he managed to have another breakthrough, getting him to the 8th Stage of Void Refinement, and his Inner World was approaching its current limits thanks to his consistent efforts.
It's not that Cedric didn't want to take the lead and see what's beyond the Void Refinement Realm. He actually thinks that it would make sense if he did, given that he's the pioneer of this path in this era. Unfortunately, plans can't keep up with the changes. Who would've thought that upon approaching the peak of the Void Refinement Realm, a person's time would be at a time limit?
Cedric thought he had time; he thought that others could wait for him to see what's on the other side first, just like before. Alas, that wasn't the case, so he could only adjust. Fortunately, things went well.
Within the next couple of weeks, Cedric studied the changes of Redstone more intimately. Starting from the qualitative and quantitative changes of his Chaos Energy, down to the major change in his Inner World and its interactions with the real world, Cedric had Redstone test it all.
And the results were very promising...
It truly wouldn't be wrong to say that Redstone's strength was no different from that of a Cosmic Lord, which meant that he essentially reached the peak of this realm, and only a handful of people could contain him. In a sense, this fulfilled Redstone's lifelong dream.
Redstone now has the power to come and go anywhere he pleases within the realm, and he will only get more powerful as time goes on.
In these tests, Cedric also tested Redstone's mettle against void creatures. They even abducted a few just to test this out. And the result? The void creatures were afraid of him.
Yes, these creatures molded by the void, driven by sheer instinct to devour and lay waste to all life, quaked in terror at the mere sight of Redstone.
It's not like Redstone did it on purpose. He quite literally just stood there doing nothing, and every single void creature, from small to big, whimpered in fear upon seeing him.
And if this wasn't surprising enough...the moment Redstone showed even the slightest bit of his animosity towards them, they all died. Yeah. It was such a bizarre sight for Cedric as well, but it did happen.
This made Cedric stumped for a bit. Because in his mind, this doesn't make sense at all. Yes, he's aware that Chaos Energy was harmful to Void Creatures in a way similar to how Void Energy was harmful to living beings. But isn't this a bit exaggerated?
Like, really? Just a little bit of Redstone's killing intent was enough for these Void Creatures to keel over and die? Doesn't this mean that if they were to send him out there just to release his killing intent without any limitations, wouldn't he wipe all void creatures out with the Void Prince being the exception? Maybe?
It shouldn't be that simple, right? Because if it is, then the void might as well stop existing at this point because there are other people who will soon follow Redstone's lead.
And so, he tested this out with Redstone's consent, of course. And for the first time in about 30 years, Cedric once again went out of the realm. This time, with Redstone and the chancellors following him.
Unlike the past, however, they wouldn't be here for long to prevent accidents. They were here only to perform tests. Once Cedric got enough data to work with, they'd leave right away.
And so, with Cedric's instructions, they attracted the attention of a small group of void creatures nearby. As soon as they did so, they immediately charged towards them.
Seeing them like this pretty much confirmed Cedric's guess. These groups didn't cower at the sight of Redstone. They didn't even flinch at all. They only showed a reaction when Redstone revealed his killing intent to them, stopping them dead in their tracks, afraid of making even a single movement.
And when Redstone told them to 'Scram! They all fled with their tails tucked behind their legs'.
This was pretty much what Cedric guessed before coming here. His theory was that, because Redstone transformed into something else and basically had his Chaos Energy and Inner World sublimated to reality, he's essentially invincible within the realm.
For those poor Void Creatures, it must've felt like they were facing the consciousness of the Primeval Scarlet Dust Realm, who hates them to the core, when they saw Redstone. And when he showed them his killing intent, it was enough to completely overwhelm them, causing their shocking deaths.
But of course, this only works when Redstone was within the realm. It's different out here. The Void has its own consciousness, and it protects its kind. That said, it also couldn't completely deny Redstone's strength. It could only weaken his influence to a slight degree.
Even so, this was more than enough. Because Redstone having this ability meant that from this point onwards, the Border Patrol Office no longer has to be afraid of being devastated by invasions.
They could have Redstone, and the others would eventually follow in his footsteps, stationed near the gates. And any brave fools who try to invade the realm will face their animosity first. If that wasn't enough to kill them, then they will heavily be suppressed, and the weaponry of the army will be their undoing.
Cedric's and the chancellors' eyes were practically shining in splendor at the potential of this happening, especially since this opens up so many avenues for them to explore. But that's a matter for the future.
For the last test before they leave this place, Cedric asked Redstone to unleash his Inner World here. Not the entirety of it, just a few hundred meters for starters.
Redstone did just that. And when he did, his Inner World encased him and his allies in its protection. It pushed the void aside like it was some kind of a light obstacle. The foul presence and influence of the Void Energy was also pushed back by the emergence of the Inner World.
As Redstone's Inner World manifested, it also covered some void creatures. And just as expected, the moment they were caught within Redstone's Inner World, their fates were no longer theirs to decide. In just a single thought from Redstone, he could wipe all these void creatures out because he was no different from an omnipotent god within his Inner World.
After this, Cedric had Redstone try to carry them within his Inner World while also instructing him to retreat, confirming the Trojan horse's feasibility.
And just as expected, it worked. Though it did feel slightly weird to stay within Redstone's Inner World, it's not unbearable.
With all of these tests, Cedric's database was updated accordingly. As expected, the path of the Ancient Chaos was truly formidable. It truly was the proper way to solve the crisis of the realm.
Seeing all of this made the chancellors even more eager to transition soon. Because compared to what Redstone could do against their enemies, their cultivation doesn't seem to be impressive enough. Redstone was more appropriate to be called a Cosmic Lord with his new abilities.
They're starting to pale in comparison.
However, they also understand that they can't exert any more pressure on Cedric simply because they don't have that ability anymore. What more pressure could they exert on someone who's already carrying the hopes of the entire realm on his shoulders?
Besides, Cedric seems to be in more of a hurry than they were. Again and again, they are astonished with how fast he progresses. What they think he would achieve in thousands of years at least, he completes in a few decades. It's so exaggerated, but it's the truth.
They all knew that all they needed to do was to be patient, and they would have a turn. So long as they are supporting Cedric every step of the way, he will repay the favor tenfold, that's for sure.
With all of the tests concluded, Cedric pretty much had a solid grasp of what Redstone could and couldn't do.
This was the first amongst many. There are others who will appear soon and more data for him to collect. He will continue compiling information until there's enough to have a general basis on what to expect for this realm of life evolution.
Right now, Cedric couldn't think of a proper name for this realm, and it wasn't a pressing matter either. They have all the time in the world to think of a name; what's more important was to establish the path first because it would be useless to give it a fancy name if the path was unstable in the first place.
And just like this, more time passed...
