Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Weird blonde?
Sekai walked through the dense forests of Wolvendom, the soft crunch of leaves beneath his boots the only sound accompanying him. The evening breeze carried the scent of pine, yet something else lingered in the air—an unsettling presence.
With an irritated sigh, he came to a stop.
Sekai: Alright, buddy, you might wanna start talking. Why the hell have you been following me?
His voice cut through the quiet, laced with annoyance.
A shadow shifted in the distance before stepping into the moonlight—a tall man with light blond hair and sea-blue eyes. His gaze was piercing, and his Primogem-shaped pupils mirrored Kaeya's. A mask-like eyepatch covered the right side of his face, though it still left his right eye visible. He was dressed in a black jacket with blue details, a gray vest, and black pants. Black armored gloves and boots gave him a warrior's presence, and a flowing cape, dark as the void and speckled with a starry motif, draped over his shoulders.
Sekai narrowed his eyes.
The man only stared in silence.
Without hesitation, Sekai's body flickered, his form shifting into Solar Element as he raised his hand, shaping his fingers into a pistol aimed at the stranger's head. The glow of celestial energy radiated from his fingertips, illuminating the space between them.
Yet the mysterious man remained unfazed.
Instead, he raised a hand in a calm, deliberate motion, signaling that he meant no harm.
???: I am not your enemy, Elemental Hero
The man spoke, his voice composed and steady.
???: But I have a request. Protect the Traveler.
Sekai: (frown) The hell are you talking about? And who even are you?"
The man studied him for a moment before answering.
???: You may call me… Dainsleif.
He took a step closer, his tone lowering.
Dainsleif: Beware of the Abyss Order. She is aware of your return.
Sekai: (tense) Abyss Order? You mean the same one we're tracking?
Dainsleif: (nod) Yes. And you… You're just like him. You're not from this world either.
A sharp glint flickered in his gaze before he turned to leave. But just as he was about to vanish, he cast one last glance over his shoulder.
Dainsleif: Heed my warning, Elemental Hero. In the end, only you and him have the power to defeat her…"
And with that, Dainsleif disappeared into the night.
Sekai blinked in surprise before exhaling, rubbing the back of his head.
Sekai: Man… I really don't like cryptic people."
Shrugging off the encounter, he shoved his hands into his pockets and continued on his way, leaving the issue to his future self.
-Time skip-
Diluc informed the group that his people had tracked the Abyss Mage down near the winery. After hunting it down, they noticed that it dissipated some strange energy in the process.
Venti's eyes narrowed in realization.
Venti: This energy… it's what's been severing my connection to Dvalin. No wonder I couldn't reach him properly.
The bard's expression grew serious as he continued,
Venti: Dvalin has taken refuge in some ancient ruins, and this energy also helps me understand the magic behind the barrier sealing them. Fortunately, I can dispel it.
Jean listened attentively before nodding.
Jean: Then our goal is clear. We must destroy the blood clot behind Dvalin—it's the source of the Abyss curse. Aether, with your purification ability, you're the key to saving him.
Aether nodded with determination, while Sekai placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
Sekai: No pressure, Aether. We've got your back.
...
As they reached the entrance to Stormterror's Lair, Venti came to a stop, gazing up at the towering ruins.
Venti: It seems we can't go any further… Ruins are blocking the way.
He then smirked, adjusting the lyre in his hands.
Venti: Without further ado… I suppose I can play faster if my only audience is the wind.
With that, he strummed the lyre, and a resonating melody filled the air. A powerful gust swept through the area, shattering the storm barrier in an instant.
Paimon: It actually opened! You're not entirely useless Tone-Deaf Bard!
Paimon said with a proud tone while Sekai only chuckle on that nickname.
Jean: this is it. We are now entering Stormterror's Lair. Watch yourselves. Let move
Jean said while resting her hand on her chest. Sekai and Aether nod and start walk into the lair.
Sekai: (Such a shame I don't have camera, or else I could take photo of this scenery… Wait I can just trance on the camera, right?... Nah not now…)
As they reached the lair's front gate, Paimon pressed against it and frowned.
Paimon: Its stuck.
Venti: Its stuck.
Venti mimic Paimon voice to tease Paimon, but Paimon just change the topic.
Paimon: Hey, check out the roof, there giant hole on it?
Everyone looks up and see big hole on the roof
Venti: Hmm… I suppose we could make used of that wind current
Paimon: Let's make a detour then. Heading up!
Venti: Let's make a detour then. Heading up!
Venti continues copying Paimon word. While other just sigh at their antics.
-Small time skip-
Venti: Oh, we can't advance any further. The ruins seem to be guarded by ancient seals. Tho thank you Sekai for the ride. It saves us more time.
Sekai just gives thumb up to Venti in response after bringing them all up using Spinning Vertical Wind
Paimon: Is this the work of Dvalin?
Venti: No. these ruins were once part of ancient city. Dvalin just happen to be nesting in this ruin now. These ruins even predate the existence of the Four Winds
Venti: Mondstadt is a city without ruler. However, before it was it was rule by tyrant. Anyway… I'll sing you that story when we have a chance in future
Diluc studied the markings on the seal with a sharp gaze.
Diluc: The inscriptions… If my knowledge is correct, this appears to be a Light Actuator. If we retrieve and reintegrate all the missing parts, we should be able to open the way forward.
Jean turned to the group and nodded.
Jean: We're close to completing the mechanism. Let's place the last part and see if it works.
With Aether and Sekai making quick work of activating the other two actuators, Jean placed the final component. The ancient structure rumbled as energy surged through it, and the last actuator lit up.
Without hesitation, Sekai activated his Spinning Vertical Wind, conjuring a powerful updraft that carried them all back to the entrance of Dvalin's lair.
As they landed, Venti stretched with a satisfied sigh.
Venti: I'm thinking of turning this adventure into a song once we're done.
Sekai scoffed, adjusting his sleeves.
Sekai: Just hope we survive to hear it.
Aether: (grin) Please don't jinx us, Sekai.
Venti: (chuckled) Ahaha… Well, I just hope the song will be sung for years to come by the people of Mondstadt—just like the Legend of Vennessa.
Jean's eyes softened at the mention of the tale.
Jean: I've loved that song since I was a child.
Then she turned to Sekai and Aether, her expression firm.
Jean: How are you two feeling? Because I'm fully prepared and completely confident that we can do this!
Aether exchanged a glance with Sekai before smirking.
Aether: Master Jean really is reliable… unlike some people who keep jinxing us.
Paimon: (grinned) Yup, yup! Even Master Diluc is sticking with us to the end, despite only being accidentally involved. So be more positive, Sekai!
Diluc crossed his arms, glancing at Sekai with a knowing smirk.
Diluc: You shared your secret with me, so I'm only returning your trust in kind. So, Chin up, brat.
Sekai: (groan) Ugh… Can't you guys cut me some slack?"
The group erupted into laughter at his plight. But before the mood could settle, Venti suddenly raised his voice with a bright smile.
"Let's go—it's time to grant Dvalin his freedom!"
The word freedom struck a chord in Sekai's mind. A fleeting image from an anime—AoT—flashed through his thoughts. (…Man, why does this remind me of Eren?)
Meanwhile, Paimon tilted her head, looking at Venti with confusion.
Paimon: Uh, what do you mean by that?
Venti: (soft chuckle) When you arrived in Mondstadt, didn't anyone tell you? Mondstadt is the City of Freedom.
Aether immediately answered. "Amber."
Venti: (grin) Of course… She really is a true child of freedom.
He gazed up at the sky, his voice turning wistful.
Venti: Mondstadt is a city without the rule of a king, where its people enjoy the greatest freedom among the Seven Nations. And I hope that the dragon who once protected it will be free as well… No one should deceive him into believing that Mondstadt betrayed him. And no one should chain him to the idea that protecting the city is his eternal duty. He has the right to choose his own path.
Paimon's eyes widened slightly. "Venti…"
Venti then turned to the group, his expression calm yet resolute.
Venti: Well then, Aether, Master Jean, Master Diluc… and Sekai.
His voice carried the weight of ages as he spoke.
Venti: May the thousand-year winds that have graced Mondstadt stand by your side. Just like last time, I'll support you with Anemo energy.
A gentle breeze swept through the area, carrying with it the bard's blessing.
The final battle awaited.
